Knowledge hoarding in Requirements Elicitation (RE) phase could lead to Information systems Development (ISD) project failure. Many researchers have discussed important factors in knowledge sharing. Nevertheless, the success rate for ISD projects is low and there are other major factors for consideration. Review was conducted to identify potential gaps in existing literature and to explore new factors that impact ISD knowledge sharing in RE. Based on systematic review of literature, two new factors are identified namely Organizational Justice and Social Interdependence. The success of ISD projects are impacted by organizational justice and social interdependence. The proposed theoretical model provides project managers a new platform to further understand ISD knowledge sharing between business users and external IT professionals in RE. © 2012 IEEE.

Rough set theory provides a methodology for data analysis based on the approximation of information systems. It is revolves around the notion of discernibility i.e. the ability to distinguish between objects based on their attributes value. It allows inferring data dependencies that are useful in the fields of feature selection and decision model construction. Since it is proven that every rough set is a soft set, therefore, within the context of soft sets theory, we present a soft set-based framework for partition attribute selection. The paper unifies existing work in this direction, and introduces the concepts of maximum attribute relative to determine and rank the attribute in the multi-valued information system. Experimental results demonstrate the potentiality of the proposed technique to discover the attribute subsets, leading to partition selection models which better coverage and achieve lower computational time than that the baseline techniques. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

This paper provides sufficient conditions for the incremental stability of time-delayed nonlinear systems. It relies on the Razumikhin-Lyapunov approach, which consists in invoking small-gain arguments by treating the delayed state as a feedback perturbation. The results are valid for multiple delays, as well as bounded time-varying delays. We provide conditions under which the limit solution of a time-delayed nonlinear system in response to a periodic (resp. constant) input is itself periodic and of the same period (resp. constant). As an illustration, a specific focus is given on a class of delayed Lur'e systems.

Decision support systems (DSS) has remarkably increased in today's competitive business environment. Organizations are aggressively emphasizing on computerized support for building comprehensive automated DSS. The main purpose behind this approach is to build intelligent business and reduces the business pressure from the competitors. In this paper, we proposed a model for building efficient DSS with connection of data mining view. The presented model guide the business leaders to get extra support from data mining abstract to create effective DSS and compete the business world with more appropriate manner. Model represent the combination of DSS components and data mining tasks for the generation of better decisions, results, rules, and patterns from operational databases. © 2012 Infonomics Society.

Virtual communities are becoming importance in many organizations, particularly in the institute of higher learning (IHL). Research communities are common practice in many IHLs, which are form based on similar research interest or research area. With proper internet infrastructure, the research communities formed virtual communities. However, the virtual communities of research communities are lacking in proper management in managing groups and managing groups' knowledge. Ontology is known to support standardization of the terms used to represent knowledge in a particular domain and ontology design is useful to model virtual communities. Finding the right people to collaborate is the main Knowledge Management (KM) perspective that we adopted in our study. But, the current situation of research communities has not met the KM perspective that we adopted due to the limitation of channel in finding the right people to work together. The objectives of the paper are: 1) to classify virtual communities in research communities of IHL and 2) to model virtual communities based on similar research interest using ontology. In order to achieve the objective, we are using ontology to classify and to model virtual communities based on related work. Finally, the outcome of the paper can be used to model virtual communities of another IHL. © 2012 IEEE.

In sensor network applications, data gathering mechanisms, which are based on multi-hop forwarding can be expensive in terms of energy. This limitation reduces the lifetime of the network and challenges the use of sensor networks for applications that demand a predefined operational lifetime. To avoid this problem, the benefits of using mobile gateway to prolong sensor life-time have been explored in the literature. However, practical considerations such as the gateway speed and route planning, sensor buffer size and data frequency generation constraints impose limits on the mobile elements. In this work, we consider the natural hybrid solution that combines the two approaches of mobile gateways and multi-hop forwarding to address more constraints for sensor applications. We provide algorithmic solutions that attempt to balance the benefits of both approaches. Based on a given predetermined time deadline, a gateway tour will be established to involve a subset of the sensors. These selected sensors will work as gathering points and will aggregate the other sensors' data. The gathering points/nodes are selected with the aim of reducing the energy expenditures due to multi-hop forwarding. We also present a heuristic-based solution and validate its performance through an extensive set of experiments. © 2012 IEEE.

The basic idea underlying similarity searching is the similar property principle, which states that structurally similar molecules will exhibit similar physicochemical and biological properties. In this paper a new language for writing 2D molecular descriptor based on outline shape (LWDOSM) is introduced. LWDOSM is a new method of obtaining a rough description of 2D molecular structure from its 2D connection graph in the form of character string. LWDOSM allows rigorous structure specification using very small and simplerule. In this paper, we study the possibility of using the textual descriptor for describing the 2D structure of the molecule. Simulated virtual screening experiments with the MDDR database show clearly the superiority of the LWDOSM descriptor compared to many standard descriptors tested in this paper. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

Distributing digital document through insecure channel leads to the question of the integrity and the ownership of the file on the receiver's side. Employing hash function and digital signature algorithms solves the difficulties of the receiver to proof the approval of the document from the sender as well as detecting if the file has been altered by illegitimate parties. In this paper, a method to attach digital signature in Portable Document File (PDF) as invisible watermark is proposed. We show that the space character that splits the field in cross-reference table can be overwritten without corrupting the file. The method to embed and extract the signature are proven to be efficient, since the offset index for cross-reference table are available at the end of the file. Our proposed method to embed the signature in the PDF file does not increase the size of the file and offer flexibility for the user to implements the digital signature scheme of his/her own preference. © 2012 IEEE.

Disaster Management (DM) is a multidisciplinary endeavour and a very difficult knowledge domain to model. It is a diffused area of knowledge that is continuously evolving and informally represented. Metamodel is the output artefact of metamodelling, a software engineering approach, which makes statements about what can be expressed in the valid models of the knowledge domain. It is an appropriate high level knowledge structure to facilitate it being communicated among DM stakeholders. A Disaster Management Metamodel (DMM) is developed. To satisfy the expressiveness and the correctness of a DMM, in this paper we present a metamodel evaluation technique by using a Frequency-based Selection. The objective of this technique is to evaluate the importance of the individual concepts used in the DMM, thus, the quality of the metamodel can be measured quantitatively. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

A system consisting of n components connected in a circular manner is called a circular consecutive-κ-out-of-n: F system if it fails when κ or more consecutive components fail. One of the most important problems for this kind of systems is to obtain the optimal component arrangement that maximizes the system reliability. As the number of components n increases, the amount of calculations would be too much to obtain an optimal solution for this problem. In this paper, we propose eight types of simulated annealing algorithms, aiming efficient search. We compare their performances and investigate efficiencies of three ideas applied to such algorithms, through numerical experiments. © ICAQM 2012.
