The critical path of a composite Web application operating in volatile environments, i.e., the execution path in the service composition with the maximum execution time, should be prioritised in cost-effective monitoring as it determines the response time of the Web application. In volatile operating environments, the critical path of a Web application is probabilistic. As such, it is important to estimate the criticalities of the execution paths, i.e., the probabilities that they are critical, to decide which parts of the system to monitor. We propose a novel approach to the identification of Probabilistic Critical Path for Service-based Web Applications (PCP-SWA), which calculates the criticalities of different execution paths in the context of service composition. We evaluate PCP-SWA experimentally using an example Web application. Compared to random monitoring, PCP-SWA based monitoring is 55.67% more cost-effective on average. Providing that licensed or Primary Users (PUs) are oblivious to the presence of unlicensed or Secondary Users (SUs), Cognitive Radio (CR) enables the SUs to use underutilized licensed spectrum (or white spaces) opportunistically and temporarily. A centralized CR system is an architectural model for a wide range of applications for example wireless medical telemetry service and medical implant communications service. As an enabling technology for white space exploitation, context awareness and intelligence (or cognition cycle, CC) remains the key characteristics of CR for using the underutilized licensed spectrum in an efficient manner. In this paper, we provide investigation into the application of a stateful Reinforcement Learning (RL) approach, to realize the conceptual CC in centralized static and mobile networks in the presence of many PUs. We investigate the use of RL with respect to Dynamic Channel Selection (DCS) that helps the SU Base Station (BS) to select channels adaptively for data transmission between different SU hosts. The purpose is to enhance the Quality of Service (QoS), particularly to maximise throughput and reduce delay by means of minimizing the number of channel switches. Simulation results reveal that RL achieves good performance and that the learning and exploration characteristics should converge to a low value to optimise performance.

Globally mathematics is a challenging subject. However, some parties wanted mathematics to be learnt using IT in a Diploma Information technology program in UTHM Johor for example. The objective of this paper is to prove whether mathematics IT used in a road traffic engineering case study could help the students’ understanding. Methodology used was quantitative as data on traffic flow was collected. There is a 0.58 Pearson correlation between the speed of cars with fatal accident cases and the marks from Mathematics final semester paper had improved besides the overall improvement to safer road traffic around Parit Raja vicinity.
