This paper presents a new method on fault distribution modeling for stochastic prediction study of voltage sags in the distribution system. Two-dimensional stochastic models for fault modeling make it possible to obtain the fault performance for the whole system of interest, which helps obtaining not only sag performance at individual locations but also system sag performance through system indices of voltage sag. By using bivariate normal distribution for fault distribution modeling, the paper estimates the influence of model parameters on system voltage sag performance. The paper also develops the modified SARFI{sub}X regarding phase loads that creates better estimation for voltage sag performance for distribution system.

Energy saving control is desirable for magnetically levitated (MAGLEV) vehicles. Hybrid magnets controlled with zero power control system was able to reduce the exciting power. But such a conventional system needed to feed bipolar current and then the excitation system was complicated. To achieve a simple excitation system, a hybrid magnet with permanent magnets and divided cores was made. The magnet was a salient-pole type magnet and the poles were placed in two rows. Each pole of the iron cores was equipped with a coil to control both levitation force and lateral damping force. The coils of one side of the divided core were excited with a direct current driver so as to produce the same polarity as the permanent magnet and the others were excited the opposite polarity. The two sets of the coils were excited with direct current drivers each of which had one IGBT. The system needed only two IGBTs per magnet while the conventional zero power systems needed four IGBTs per magnet. According to our test results, the energy consumption was very small and the levitation part was able to start levitating from both upper and lower touch-down positions. This paper presents a novel approach to solve the constrained unit commitment problem using the Selective Self-Adaptive Ant Colony Optimization (SSACO) for improving search performance by automatically adapting ant populations and their transition probability parameters, which cooperates with the Candidate Path Management Module (CPMM) and the Effective Repairing Heuristic Module (ERHM) in reducing search space and recovering a feasible optimality region so that a high quality solution can be acquired in a very early iterative. A new concept of the Relativity Pheromone Updating (RPU) is also introduced to provide a reasonable evaluation of the pheromone trail intensity among the agents. The proposed SSACO method not only enhances the convergence of search process, but also provides a suitable number of the population sharing which conducts a good guidance for trading-off between the importance of the visibility and the pheromone trail intensity. The proposed method has been performed on a test system up to 100 generating units with a scheduling time horizon of 24 hours. The numerical results show the most economical saving in the total operating cost when compared to the previous literature results. Moreover, the proposed SSACO topology can remarkably speed up the computational time of ant colony optimization, which is favorable for a large-scale UC problem implementation.

This paper presents some results in the implementation of a local navigation strategy for environment exploration using real robots. As an experimental platform we used the mini-robot Khepera II running in the Tele-workbench. The complete environment is divided into small quadratic patches with some objects placed in it. With on-board infrared sensors and wheel encoder, the robot can successfully explore the unknown environment. Moreover, by calculating the distance of surrounding patches, the implemented algorithm will minimize the distance traveled, and in turn of consumed energy and time. This paper also shows the advantage of using the Teleworkbench for performing experiments using real robots.

The process of building consumer trust in e-Commerce is based on the presence of trust features or trust attributes in the websites. Trust attributes are usually presented to the consumer by some clues on the homepage. For example, the clue 'contact us' will be linked to the trust attribute 'company address'. Consumers may examine e-Commerce websites for the existence of trust attributes. However, to date, which trust attributes contribute to the website's trustworthiness and which trust attributes give more value to consumers has not been adequately explored. Therefore, the purpose of the paper is: (1) to look for relevant trust attributes that should be placed in e-Commerce websites and (2) to identify the importance ranking of trust attributes that contribute to the trustworthiness of e-Commerce website. Five e-Commerce trust models were used for deriving the trust attributes. An online survey that received 1230 respondents was carried out to investigate the importance ranking of important trust attributes. This paper contributes to the discussion on how to build trust in e-Commerce for various stakeholders that include consumers, business organizations, system developers, and also to the researchers.

Translocation of amphiphilic polymers (random and block copolymers), consisting of hydrophilic and hydrophobic monomers, threading a pore is studied by using a three-dimensional dynamic Monte Carlo simulation. We find that there is a “translocation-insertion” threshold in the fraction of hydrophobic monomers on an amphiphilic polymer. The translocation time is given by simple scaling laws and increases with increasing the fraction of hydrophobic monomers.

The use of requirements traceability for information systems development (ISD) projects is not very common in practice despite its often mentioned advantages in the literature. We conducted a case study in a large IT company to identify the factors that are relevant for the decision whether or not to adopt traceability in an ISD project. Five dominant factors emerged: development organization awareness, customer awareness, return on investment, stakeholder preferences, and process flow. It turned out that the majority of the software development project leaders we interviewed were not aware of the concept of traceability - with the obvious result that using traceability in software project is not even considered. This fact has possibly been underestimated in the present literature of requirements engineering.
