Optoelectronic properties analysis of silicon light-emitting diode monolithically integrated in standard CMOS IC

Si p^+n junction diodes operating in the mode of avalanche breakdown are capable of emitting light in the visible range of 400-900 nm. In this study, to realize the switching speed in the GHz range, we present a transient model to shorten the carrier lifetime in the high electric field region by accumulating carriers in both p and n type regions. We also verify the optoelectronic characteristics by disclosing the related physical mechanisms behind the light emission phenomena. The emission of visible light by a monolithically integrated Si diode under the reverse bias is also discussed. The light is emitted as spatial sources by the defects located at the p-n junction of the reverse-biased diode. The influence of the defects on the electrical behavior is manifested as a current-dependent electroluminescence.

Next generation Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) needs seamless connectivity with high level of quality of services (QoS) and high data rates services. The complexity of VANET raises concern about the QoS and the reliability of the communication handover which refer to the connectivity and operation of conveying an ongoing call or data session between Vehicles to Vehicles (V2V) and Vehicles to Infrastructure (V2I) in VANET communication mode. This communication faces a huge challenge. The vehicles are moving so fast and highly dynamic that may cause frequent handover which may cause signal delay and communication loss. This paper provides an up-to-date literature of handover schemes for VANET over LTE-A wireless network. A discussion on thumbnail of the key decision parameters to be used in the handover algorithm and comparative summary of selected scheme for VANET over LTE-A concludes this work. This study, thus contributes to the understanding of the available options and gaps for further studies and standardization activities to this area of research. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper, the feasibility of using commercial power Silicon Carbide (SiC) Schottky diodes as a current mode γ-radiation detector have been examined. Diodes with almost identical electric characteristics are purchased from two different manufacturers, On Semiconductor and RoHM. They have been tested under gamma radiation exposure from a Co-60 source. The current response during irradiation has been measured for various dose rates with reversed diode bias. Investigated range of dose rates was from 0.258 Gy/h to 26.312 Gy/h, and reverse diode bias values were 10 V, 20 V, 50 V, 100 V and 200 V. Tested Schottky diodes produce stable current response for the investigated dose rates. Although the manufacturers are different, the results show that the dosimetric characteristics of these diodes have an excellent match. Sensitivity was proportional to the applied reverse bias voltage. A simple power-law can very well describe the dependence of measured radiation-induced current on dose rate.

Roll surface wear morphology directly affects the surface quality of steel plates and even affects the texture composition of plates and strip steel products. Using image processing methods to judge the wear state of a roll is low cost, easy to operate, and easy to realize an automatic smart data processing system. In this paper, we propose a Smart Roll Wear Check (SRWC) scheme for ensuring the rolling quality of steel plates. In the SRWC scheme, roll surface images in different wear stages are analyzed, from which seventeen dimension features are extracted. At the same time, the fractal theory is introduced to explore the relationship between fractal dimensions and roll wear degree. The results show that four characteristic parameters, such as roundness, equivalent area circle radius, second moment and texture entropy, and the fractal dimension can be used as effective parameters to quantitatively judge roll wear state. Lastly, a back-propagation (BP) neural network model for recognition and judgment for roll wear is established. It provides an experimental test to show that the five parameters as a quantitative evaluation for roll wear morphology are effective. By processing the data on the images, the SRWC scheme can demonstrate whether the roll needs to get off mill in time, so as to avoid the hidden danger of safety and ensure the rolling quality of the steel plate. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Neurofeedback is considered a promising therapy for boosting cognitive skills, which 10% of the US medical sector is using as a new training method among patients. Attention is a significant mechanism for learning and is essential for life in general. As the person grows up the level of responsibilities also increases, which needs high concentration in doing normal activities. To succeed in any activity, neurofeedback therapy needs to check brain waves to locate the problem in the brain and train it. This paper aims to review the attention deficit treatment based on neurofeedback using a systematic review method. The results found that the common features are the area of EEG (Frontal, central) in the brain, type of tools and software, time of training and the impact upon the trainer. Neurofeedback showed improvement of brain attention-ability for a longer time as well as reduction in recovery time in case of a disturbance interruption.

Discovering optimal features using static analysis and a genetic search based method for Android malware detection

Mobile device manufacturers are rapidly producing miscellaneous Android versions worldwide. Simultaneously, cyber criminals are executing malicious actions, such as tracking user activities, stealing personal data, and committing bank fraud. These criminals gain numerous benefits as too many people use Android for their daily routines, including important communications. With this in mind, security practitioners have conducted static and dynamic analyses to identify malware. This study used static analysis because of its overall code coverage, low resource consumption, and rapid processing. However, static analysis requires a minimum number of features to efficiently classify malware. Therefore, we used genetic search（GS）, which is a search based on a genetic algorithm（GA）, to select the features among 106 strings. To evaluate the best features determined by GS, we used five machine learning classifiers, namely, Na？ve Bayes（NB）, functional trees（FT）, J48, random forest（RF）, and multilayer perceptron（MLP）. Among these classifiers, FT gave the highest accuracy（95%） and true positive rate（TPR）（96.7%） with the use of only six features.

Paleoclimate proxy records from Greenland ice cores, archiving e.g. δ18O as a proxy for surface temperature, show that sudden climatic shifts called Dansgaard–Oeschger events (DO) occurred repeatedly during the last glacial interval. They comprised substantial warming of the Arctic region from cold to milder conditions. Concomitant abrupt changes in the dust concentrations of the same ice cores suggest that sudden reorganisations of the hemispheric-scale atmospheric circulation have accompanied the warming events. Genuine bistability of the North Atlantic climate system is commonly hypothesised to explain the existence of stadial (cold) and interstadial (milder) periods in Greenland. However, the physical mechanisms that drove abrupt transitions from the stadial to the interstadial state, and more gradual yet still abrupt reverse transitions, remain debated. Here, we conduct a one-dimensional data-driven analysis of the Greenland temperature and atmospheric circulation proxies under the purview of stochastic processes. We take the Kramers–Moyal equation to estimate each proxy’s drift and diffusion terms within a Markovian model framework. We then assess noise contributions beyond Gaussian white noise. The resulting stochastic differential equation (SDE) models feature a monostable drift for the Greenland temperature proxy and a bistable one for the atmospheric circulation proxy. Indicators of discontinuity in stochastic processes suggest to include higher-order terms of the Kramers–Moyal equation when modelling the Greenland temperature proxy’s evolution. This constitutes a qualitative difference in the characteristics of the two time series, which should be further investigated from the standpoint of climate dynamics. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

SRAM-based Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is vulnerable to the serious radiation effects represented by Single Event Upset (SEU) effect in space. Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) and configuration scrubbing are effective methods of FPGA radiation protection, but each has its own shortcomings: TMR structure can't correct errors, and scrub circuit, also called “scrubber”, is sensitive to radiation. In response to the problem, this paper proposes a Real-time Redundant Scrubbing (RRS) system. Based on the traditional configuration scrubbing, TMR structure is applied to the scrubber. And the error indicator is added to the traditional TMR structure. When the scrubber has errors due to SEU, the scrubber will be scrubbed in real-time to prevent error accumulation. In addition, the floorplan of the three redundant logic is distributed to avoid the influence of a SEU on multiple redundant logic at the same time. In this paper, the anti-radiation capability of the proposed RRS system is evaluated by random fault injection. The test results show that the anti-radiation capability of the RRS system is more than 2 times higher than that of traditional configuration scrubbing system.

Flexible based Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) in nanotechnology revolution have always been in the thick of things where fabrication method and achieving good performances are concerned. Such concerns were adjudicated by improvising four(4) innate DSSCs structures composed of photoanode, semiconductor, electrolyte and counter electrode. This paper aims to observe the impact of changing Platinum(Pt) volumes on the counter electrodes of DSSCs by conducting tests on 0.2mm Titanium (Ti) foil based photoanode DSSCs. The deposition of Pt was varied into 70l, 50l and 30l accordingly by spin coating technique at 1500 rpm. All samples were synthesized, deposited with Pt and assembled before being tested under solar light simulator of 1000W/cm2. Samples with 70l Pt deposition indicated a higher efficiency () of 2.83%, even though it allowed less light penetration, while the 30l Pt deposition sample provided efficiency () of 0.88% with more light penetration. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Today, city management is one of the great challenges facing the world. The growth of population, industries, and services is in urgent need of transportation on a large scale. Meanwhile, transportation has great importance in urban management. Therefore, it is necessary to solve the traffic problem with scientific methods and reduce the traffic load of cities. An interesting way to reduce urban travels is using 2,3, or 4 people from one car that it is known as "Ride Sharing". In this research, the NetLogo software is used to simulate travel sharing scenarios. The three considered parameters are the number of passengers, the acceptable travel sharing radius, and the acceptable waiting time. The proposed algorithm uses a clustering method to find the best candidates to share a ride. Several scenarios were performed to evaluate numerical results. The number of passengers was 100, and 500, the radius of the trip was 1,000 and 2,000 meters, and the waiting time was 10 and 20 minutes. So, 8 experiments were carried out. The least amount of travel sharing was observed in the first scenario (100 passengers, 1000 m travel sharing radius and 10 minutes waiting time), in which 2% of single trips dropped out. The most sharing trips were in the final scenario (500 passengers, 2000 meters radius and 20 minutes waiting time), which saw a decrease of 36.4% of single trips. So, it can be said that sharing a trip can reduce traffic in cities and consequently reduce urban costs and either air pollution or noise pollution. © 2019 M. Naseri Gorgoon et al.
