Morphological Segmentation for Identifying Backbone Area

Segmentation in images of abdominal CT scan is an important step in the processing and interpretation of medical images. This is not easy, because the organs are close together and the color intensity is similar. Various methods have been developed, but the problem of locating the position of the backbone is still difficult to solve. The purpose of this study is to develop a segmentation method to determine the location of the backbone using a morphological method with a binarization approach. Testing of 11 CT Scan images shows that the method developed can determine the area and position of the backbone. Thus, it can be concluded that the method of backbone segmentation using a morphological method with a binary approach is successfully developed so that it can be applied to the advanced analysis process.

The process of modelling the energy expenditure for IoT systems is distinct when compared to Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), due to a number of factors and metrics. Few of such factors to mention are the IoT layers being different from the Open system Interconnection (OSI) with communication protocols like IPv6 Low power Wireless Personal Area Networks (6LoWPAN), Routing for Low Power and Lossy networks (RPL) and Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). This leads to the demand for designing efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols to serve the purpose of balance between the performance of the system and minimum energy consumption. The challenge of compatibility of MAC protocols for IoT deployment needs to be addressed. The proposed work is aimed at developing energy efficient framework for optimal balance between energy consumed by connected devices (sensor networks) in a complex and time-critical IoT system through performance monitoring of underlying communication technologies. It also focuses to address the trade-off between energy expenditure and performance of the network for the communicating nodes. An Energy Harvesting MAC protocol is designed and developed after modelling of the nodes using Reinforcement Learning (RL) for time critical IoT systems. The results have shown that the energy expenditure of the IoT devices is considerably minimized and the performance is increased by nearly 80% when compared to the state-of-art energy harvesting solutions for sustainable IoT systems. This research also plays a significant role in matching the energy predictions and the experimentations that validate the IoT systems in a real-world scenario.

The aim of this paper is to present concept of the botnet detection method based on the network flow clustering. There are a lot of botnets implementations and there are a lot of methods of their detection. Usually those methods are only effective for specific groups of botnets for example, which are using IRC, HTML or P2P protocol for internal communication. Method presented below, called BotTROP is a concept how to detect different kind of botnets based on their synchronous activity. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

In this paper, remote desktop power management system is proposed for remote power management of multiple desktop computers. This system will enable desktop computer to be restarted, switch on or off in the event of computer freeze or based on user input by controlling the power to the desktop computer. The system has the ability to monitor the environment parameters such as the temperature, humidity, and air quality surrounding the desktop computer. This remote desktop power management system can be accessed primarily using website interface. This system will save time and cost as less on-site maintenance and monitoring is needed.

Blockchain technology is currently emerging as the next promising revolutionary technology. Many different applications have started to venture into this technology. The decentralization and distribution nature of blockchain allows dynamic applications to be build on it, including Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications. IoT devices have been commonly linked to smart systems with its applications mainly surrounding on event detection and monitoring. Coupling this IoT capabilities with blockchain network offers great potential for scalable event detection and monitoring for large-scale network. Nevertheless, detection mechanism should be able to scale up with such requirements. In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework on implementation of distributed pattern recognition for event monitoring within IoT-blockchain network. This conceptual framework is supported by a preliminary study on IoT-blockchain implementation and distributed pattern recognition implementation using a Graph Neuron (GN) approach.

In this paper, the generalized multiple measurement vectors (GMMV) linear inversion method is applied to the reconstruction of the 3-D Fresnel data, provided by the Institue Fresnel (Marseille, France). The results show that the GMMV-based method can obtain good resolution along the xand yaxes, while poor resolution along the z-axis, because there were only receiving antennas distributed on the x-o-y plane, indicating that the diversity of the measurement angle is critical for the GMMV method.

This research was conducted in rubber factory in Indonesia. Today, businesses need a more efficient supply chain that is able to resolve complex challenges in the present. This research is aimed at increasing the company's competitive advantage by designing supply chain framework with profit sharing system to ensure material availability. This research is conducted by using data reduction method in determining quantitative data for input Stream Value Mapping and Supply Chain Management. Determination of rubber material purchase price is done by using the average trend of rubber price so that the purchase of rubber material is done flat. In order to create trusts in the supply chain, profit-sharing systems are used so that suppliers will supply the right, consistent quantity, quality, and timing of delivery. The results obtained supply chain frameworks are better able to ensure process efficiency and material availability. If applied, this framework will save up to 29.17% processing time.

Gender identification based on handwriting analysis has received a special attention to researchers in the field of document image analysis as it is useful for several real-time applications like forensic, population counting, etc. In this paper, we explore Multi-Gradient Directional (MGD) features, which provide direction of dominant pixels obtained by Canny edge image, and gradient direction symmetry. The proposed method further performs histogram operation for gradient angle information of dominant pixels of respective multi-gradient directional images to select angles, which contribute to the highest peak. This results in feature vectors. The process of feature vector formation continues for the segmented first, second, and third text lines in each image by male or female. Next, correlation is estimated for the vector of the first line with successive lines until converging or diverging criteria is met. If the convergence happens, a document is considered as by female, else is considered as by male. The method is tested on our own dataset, which includes images of different scripts, writers, papers, pens, and ages, and the standard database QUWI which includes Arabic and English texts, to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. Comparative studies with the state of the art methods show that the proposed method is effective and useful.

With the rising popularity of social media in the past few years, several researches ratiocinate that this type of interactive and collaborative technology could be a beneficial tool for the sharing of tacit knowledge. Nevertheless, very few literatures have tackled the subject of how social media could facilitate tacit knowledge sharing among medical practitioners, and what are its contributions in the area. Thus, the factors that drive individuals to share tacit knowledge need to be investigated further and included in literature. Through a systematic literature review, this study proposes seven enabling conditions which could potentially facilitate the sharing of tacit knowledge. TAM was applied as a novelty in this study in investigating the factors influencing knowledge sharing via social media, whilst taking into account the mediation effects of Attitude in social media usage. This study uncovered an important correlation between virtual settings and the conversion of tacit knowledge, which affects organizational members who are not co-located physically but have a crucial need for sharing information. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
