Globally mathematics is a challenging subject. However, some parties wanted mathematics to be learnt using IT in a Diploma Information Technology program in UTHM Johor for example. The objective of this paper is to prove whether mathematics IT used in a road traffic engineering case study could help the students’ understanding. Methodology used was quantitative as data on traffic flow was collected. There is a 0.58 Pearson correlation between the speed of cars with fatal accident cases and the marks from Mathematics final semester paper had improved besides the overall improvement to safer road traffic around Parit Raja vicinity.

Innovation and creativity are the key successful factors and a global priority in engineering industries. This paper describes the development of an evolutionary grammars based design framework for product innovation. A new genetic representation of shape grammars is developed in an evolutionary computing environment. The results generated by the genetic algorithm define a new combination of shape features for alternative designs. In this way, traditional shape grammar is extended to an interactive context in which generative and evolutionary computing methods are combined. Both product component design as well as product configuration are supported in this framework. Two important design issues are addressed in this research, 1) Product form exploration, and 2) Product design strategies. To tackle the issues, this research demonstrates the efficient use of evolutionary grammars to support the exploration of innovative product form designs.

This paper presents computer simulation model for prediction of young modulus for Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) properties. The effect on modulus of natural fibers which affect the strength and stiffness of the composites were studied. The results show that the percentage of void volume inside the fibers is reduced using the proposed model. The results are validated with the experimental data and it was shown that the results from simulations model are closed to the experimental result.

The new paradigm in mobile services lies in providing a location-based user experience and here lies the tremendous scope for expansion of location-based services (LBS). One of the key approaches that have been recognized as an enabler of such a view is policy-based management, which has been mostly acknowledged as a methodology that provides adaptability and support to automatically assign network resources, control Quality of Service and security, by considering administratively specified rules. Whilst current research focuses mostly on rules for low-level device configuration, significant challenges remain to be addressed in order to provide dynamic adaptation of policy in response to changes and ensure that policies will lead to a feasible implementation within the managed environment. In this paper, the emphasis is on building the described environment using today's existing technologies. We use our policy-based framework PobMC to combine mobile (location-based) services, ubiquitous and autonomic computing concepts. The goal is to bring the kind of informationrich environment, which is currently limited to computer screens, to the real world. This is achieved by constructing an architecture based on existing wireless network technologies and Web applications. Location information of destinations and users is computed by the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) values of the Wi-Fi sensors, to provide adaptive services over wireless Web. The users use their mobile devices to access these location-based services.

Cancer is becoming a leading cause of death among people in the whole world. It is confirmed that the early detection and accurate diagnosis of this disease can ensure a long survival of the patients. Expert systems and machine learning techniques are gaining popularity in this field because of the effective classification and high diagnostic capability. This paper presents the application of rough set theory for clustering two cancer datasets. These datasets are taken from UCI ML repository. The method is based on MDA technique proposed by [11]. To select a clustering attribute, the maximal degree of the rough attributes dependencies in categorical-valued information systems is used. Further, we use a divide-and-conquer method to partition/cluster the objects. The results show that MDA technique can be used to cluster to the data. Further, we present clusters visualization using two dimensional plot. The plot results provide user friendly navigation to understand the cluster obtained.

In previous work, we presented an applicability of soft set theory for decision making of patients suspected influenza. The proposed technique is based on maximal supported objects by parameters. At this stage of the research, results are presented and discussed from a qualitative point of view against recent soft decision making techniques through an artificial dataset. In this paper, we present an extended application of our soft set-based decision making through a Boolean valued information system from a dataset of patients suspected ILI (Influenza-Like Illness). Using soft set theory and maximal symptoms co-occurences in patients, we explore how soft set-based decision making technique can be used to reduce the number of dispensable symptoms and further make a correct and fast decision. The result of this work can be used for recommendation of decision making based on the clusters decision captured. Finally, this technique may potentially contribute to lowering the complexity of medical decision making without loss of original information.
