DETECTING CRITICAL LEAST ASSOCIATION RULES IN MEDICAL DATABASES

Least association rules are corresponded to the rarity or irregularity relationship among itemset in database. Mining these rules is very difficult and rarely focused since it always involves with infrequent and exceptional cases. In certain medical data, detecting these rules is very critical and most valuable. However, mathematical formulation and evaluation of the new proposed measurement are not really impressive. Therefore, in this paper we applied our novel measurement called Critical Relative Support (CRS) to mine the critical least association rules from medical dataset. We also employed our scalable algorithm called Significant Least Pattern Growth algorithm (SLP-Growth) to mine the respective association rules. Experiment with two benchmarked medical datasets, Breast Cancer and Cardiac Single Proton Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) Images proves that CRS can be used to detect to the pertinent rules and thus verify its scalability.

Storing XML documents in a relational database is a promising solution because relational databases are mature and scale very well and they have the advantages that in a relational database XML data and structured data can coexist making it possible to build application that involve both kinds of data with little extra effort. In this paper, we propose an algorithm schema named XRecursive that translates XML documents to relational database according to the proposed storing structure. The steps and algorithm are given in details to describe how to use the storing structure to storage and query XML documents in relational database. Then we report our experimental results on a real database to show the performance of our method in some features. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

A component-based Embedded Real Time (ERT) system can improve the system development through enhancing the ability of experts in developing sophisticated ERT software. In order to generate codes, ERT code generator system frameworks have generally two parts: a graphical semi-formal-model representation to define the components, and an optimal code generator that generates codes for a resource limited microcontroller. The Unified Modelling Language(UML) semi-formal-model system does not deal with minute details of the code generation (e.g. IF, THEN, ..). Currently, code generators use a state diagram semi-formal-model to provide optimal codes. However, manual coding has not been quit entirely since current state diagrams are not capable of providing details in code generation. The Component Oriented Programming framework (COP) is an ERT framework which targets on the code generation required in Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR). Currently, the COP framework can not provide the AMR with code details. This paper presents an implementation of a code generator through exploiting a previously used algorithm to create a state diagram based on information taken from the component composition in the COP framework. Consequently, manual coding in the COP framework can be minimized. © 2011 IEEE.

In data mining, visual representation can help in enhancing the ability of analyzing and understanding the techniques, patterns and their integration. Recently, there are varieties of visualizers have been proposed in marketplace and knowledge discovery communities. However, the detail visualization processes for constructing any incremental tree data structure from its original dataset are rarely presented. Essentially, graphic illustrations of the complex processes are easier to be understood as compared to the complex computer pseudocode. Therefore, this paper explains the visualization process of constructing our incremental Disorder Support Trie Itemset (DOSTrieIT) data structure from the flat-file dataset. DOSTrieIT can be used later as a compressed source of information for building Frequent Pattern Tree (FP-Tree). To ensure understandability, an appropriate dataset and its processes are graphically presented and details explained.

In digital watermarking performance evaluation at least three major metrics: imperceptibility, robustness and capacity have been widely used by researchers to analyze the performance of watermarking schemes;however, they constantly conflict with each other. In this paper we propose an effective method to evaluate the trade-off balanced degree among these measures using three threshold conditions. These thresholds comprise of three factors: imperceptibility effect 'before attack and after watermarking', perceptibility effect 'after attack', and robustness 'after attack'. As a result of this study, the performance trade-off of a watermarking scheme can be stated based on degrees. Moreover, we proposed Reset Removal Attack as a severe geometric attack. Finally, the experimental investigation of the proposed technique using the bit-plane watermarking algorithms under several intensities of Reset Removal Attack revealed that the 3rd bit-plane algorithm behaved a better compromise among robustness, image quality, and capacity. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Over the past decade, scheduling in grid computing system has been an active research. However, it is still difficult to find an optimal scheduling algorithm to achieve load balancing. Most of the researchers have focus on schedule-based algorithms such as genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization to solve this problem and use priority rules algorithms as initial schedule in those algorithms. The main reason this paper was produced is that most of these researchers failed to justify why they use a specific priority rules scheduler as initial schedule in their work. This paper addresses this issue by presenting a comparison results on several priority rules algorithms based on several performance metrics. To add novelty to this paper, we have proposed several schedule-based algorithms that basically based on the combination of backfilling technique and priority rules algorithms. Our results show the significant improvements compared to the original priority rules algorithms. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

This paper presents an investigation on how different walking surfaces affect gait identification based on accelerometer data. Accelerometer data of 5 subjects walking on 4 different solid surfaces was acquired on 3 different days by a cell phone placed on the subject's hip. Data analysis detects gait cycles by a method based on wavelet transform. For all gait cycles, features were calculated by using higher-order statistics. Similarity estimation for discerning the different subjects and surfaces was introduced by using principal component analysis (PCA). It proved that the different solid surfaces do not influence the efficiency of the identification of subjects based on their gait. © 2011 IEEE.

The availability of high quality and inexpensive video camera, as well as the increasing need for automated video analysis is leading towards a great deal of interest in numerous applications. However the video tracking systems is still having many open problems. Thus, some of research activities in a video tracking system are still being explored. Generally, most of the researchers are used a static camera in order to track an object motion. However, the use of a static camera system for detecting and tracking the motion of an object is only capable for capturing a limited view. Therefore, to overcome the above mentioned problem in a large view space, researcher may use several cameras to capture images. Thus, the cost will increases with the number of cameras. To overcome the cost increment a mobile camera is employed with the ability to track the wide field of view in an environment. Conversely, mobile camera technologies for tracking applications have faced several problems;simultaneous motion (when an object and camera are concurrently movable), distinguishing objects in occlusion, and dynamic changes in the background during data capture. In this study we propose a new method of Global best Local Neighborhood Oriented Particle Swarm Optimization (GbLN-PSO) to address these problems. The advantages of tracking using GbLN-PSO are demonstrated in experiments for intelligent human and vehicle tracking systems in comparison to a conventional method. The comparative study of the method is provided to evaluate its capabilities at the end of this paper. © 2011 IEEE.

Learning Object (LO) is one of the main research topics in the e-learning community in the recent years, and most researchers pay attention to the issue of Learning Object Reusability. The most obvious motivation is the economic interest of reusing learning material instead of repeatedly authoring it. In this paper we present the process of creating granular learning object for enabling the reusing of LO in e-Learning context. Reusability requires the LO to be in a fine-grain form because raw media elements are often much easier to reuse then aggregate assemblies. In other words, as the LO size decreases (lower granularity), its potential for reuse increases. A prototype of learning objects repository that contain granular LO has been developed to show the process of granularizing LO. Each of existing LO will be extracted into granular element with the metadata and the system generated unique id for each LO based on its identifier (URL of LO) and save automatically the metadata contain in the LO. These metadata will be used for searching and retrieval process of the granule LO. © 2011 IEEE.

The numerous recent contribution of web application testing approaches reflect the rising awareness and concern for assuring web application's functionality and performance. The functionality of a web application cannot be compromised, especially if dealing with critical web-based applications such as online banking system, ticketing system and file hosting services. This paper aims to systematically investigate state-of-the-art functional testing approaches for web applications. Focus will be given on testing techniques that address the functional aspect of a web application. In this paper we firstly perform exhaustive literature reviews on state-of-the-art approaches in functional testing of web application. Next, a comparative evaluation framework that consists of several related criteria is developed, and subsequently applied to the selected prominent approaches. Finally, we present a critical discussion on the results of the comparative evaluation. Based on our observations, the evaluation results may indicate the current and future direction in web application functional testing and the viability of these approaches. Through the results, we will be able to determine the direction of functional web application testing and which area within the functional requirement aspect of web applications that has not duly being addressed.
