A cumulant-based method for gait identification using accelerometer data with principal component analysis and support vector machine

In this paper a cumulant-based method for identification of gait using accelerometer data is presented. Acceleration data of three different walking speeds (slow, normal and fast) for each subject was acquired by the accelerometer embedded in cell phone which was attached to the person's hip. Data analysis was based on gait cycles that were detected first. Cumulants of order from 1 to 4 with different number of lags were calculated. Feature vectors for classification were built using dimension reduction on calculated cumulants by principal component analysis (PCA). The classification was accomplished by support vector machines (SVM) with radial basis kernel. According to portion of variance covered in the calculated principal components, different lengths of feature vectors were tested. Six healthy young subjects participated in the experiment. The average person recognition rate based on gait classification was 90.3±3.2%. A similarity measure for discerning different walking types of the same subject was also introduced using dimension reduction on accelerometer data by PCA.

software testing has been used to find software faults in order to improve its quality. To verify the software behavior, testers require test oracle. Test oracle is a reliable source of expected software behavior that provides outputs for any input specified in the software specifications and a comparator to verify actual results. While test automation requires automated oracle support, oracle automation is considered as a challenging task. These challenges are from the automation required in expected output generation and results verification. This paper presents oracle activities and the challenges to prepare automated oracle. Then a comparative study of existing automated oracle and expected output generation methods is provided. Finally, a classification of these methods is suggested based on how these methods provide automated test oracle and the tool they used. The classification explains which oracle activities will be automated by the proposed approaches.

This paper describes environmental recognition and motion control using weightless neural network classifier and interval type-2 fuzzy logic controller. The weightless neural network classifies geometric feature such as U-shape, corridor and left or right corner using ultrasonic sensors. The neural network utilizes previous sensor data and analyzes the situation of the current environment. The behavior of mobile robot is implemented by means of fuzzy control rules. Based on the performance criteria the quality of controller is evaluated to make navigation decisions. This functionality is demonstrated on a mobile robot using modular platform and containing several microcontrollers implies the implementation of a robust architecture. The proposed architecture implemented using low cost range sensor and low cost microprocessor. The experiment results show that the mobile robot can recognize the current environment and was able to successfully avoid obstacle in real time.

Currently, it is noticed that users tend to choose shorter password as their authentication which can be easily attacked. Biometric technologies such as fingerprint scanning, voice authentication, face recognition, signature, hand geometry and iris recognition is now playing an important role especially in application related to security issue. In this work, we present an approach to generate a unique and more secure cryptographic key from iris template. The iris images are processed to produce iris template or code to be utilized for the encryption and decryption tasks. AES cryptography algorithm are employed to encrypt and decrypt the identity data. Distance metric such as hamming distance and Euclidean distance are used for the template matching identification process. Experimental results show that this system can obtain a higher security with a low false rejection or false acceptance rate.

Accurate forecasting of the rice yields is very important for the organization to make a better planning and decision making. In this study, a hybrid methodology that combines the individual forecasts based on artificial neural network (CANN) approach for modeling rice yields was investigated. The CANN has several advantages compared with conventional Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model, the statistical the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and exponential smoothing (EXPS) model in order to get more effective evaluation. To assess the effectiveness of these models, we used 38 years of time series records for rice yield data in Malaysia from 1971 to 2008. Results show that the CANN model appears to perform reasonably well and hence can be applied to real-life prediction and modeling problems. © 2009 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

In this review, we have discussed about approaches in pathway based microarray analysis. Commonly, there are two approaches in pathway based analysis, Enrichment Score and Supervised Machine Learning. These pathway based approaches usually aim to statistically define significant pathways that related to phenotypes of interest. Firstly we discussed an overview of pathway based microarray analysis and its general flow processes in scoring the pathways, the methods applied in both approaches, advantages and limitations based on current researches, and pathways database used in pathway analysis. This review aim to provide better understanding about pathway based microarray analysis and its approaches.

The purpose of this paper is to identify the threats that exist in Healthcare Information systems (HIS). The study has been carried out in three different departments namely, Information Technology Department (ITD), Medical Record Department (MRD) and X-Ray Department in one of the leading government supported hospital in Malaysia. The hospital was equipped with Total Hospital Information system (THIS) environment. The data were collected using in-depth structured interviews. The study identified 22 types of threats according to major threat categories based on ISO/IEC 27002 (ISO 27799:2008). The result shows the most critical threat for the THIS is the power failure. In addition, acts of human error or failure threat also show high frequency of occurrence. The contribution of the paper will be categorization of threats in HIS and can be used to design and implement effective security systems and policies in healthcare setting.

This paper presents a study on method to develop student model by identifying the students' characteristics in an adaptive hypermedia learning system. The study involves the use of student profiling techniques to identify the features that may be useful to help the researchers have a better understanding of the student in an adaptive learning environment. We propose a supervised Kohonen network with hexagonal lattice structure to classify the student into 3 categories: beginner, intermediate and advance to represent their knowledge level while using the learning system. An experiment is conducted to see the proposed Kohonen network's performances compared to the other types of Kohonen networks in term of learning algorithm and map structure. 10-fold cross validation method is used to validate the network performances. Results from the experiment shows that the proposed Kohonen network produces an average percentage of accuracy, 81.3889% in classifying the simulated data and 51.6129% when applied to the real student data.

Learning Object (LO) is one of the main research topics in the E-Learning community in the recent years, and most researchers pay attention to the issue of Learning Object Reusability. The most obvious motivation is the economic interest of reusing learning material instead of repeatedly authoring it. Reusability requires the LO to be in a fine-grain form because raw media elements are often much easier to reuse than aggregate assemblies. In other words, as the LO size decreases (lower granularity), its potential for reuse increases. Therefore, when designing learning objects, reusability must be considered as a key consideration. This paper shows how we adapted and applied some of the metrics from the software engineering field for the purpose of measuring reusability of learning objects.

Threats to information security for healthcare information system increased tremendously. There are various factors contribute to information security threats, many researchers focused only to certain factors which interest them (e.g., virus attack). Certain factors which may be important remain unexplored. In addition, lack of tools and technologies directed to limited number of threats traced in healthcare system. Thus it introduces bias in threat analysis. This study explored the use of biological computational termed Genetic Algorithm (GAs) combined with Cox regression (CoRGA) in identifying a potential threat for healthcare system. The results show that variable described “misused of e-mail” is the major information security threats for healthcare system. Results were compared with manual analysis using the same data, and it is shows that GAs not just introducing new threats for healthcare system but it was similar with others threats proposed by previous researches.
