Blockchains are turning into decentralized computing platforms and are getting worldwide recognition for their unique advantages. There is an emerging trend beyond payments that blockchains could enable a new breed of decentralized applications, and serve as the foundation for Internet's security infrastructure. The immutable nature of the blockchain makes it a winner on security and transparency;it is nearly inconceivable for ledgers to be altered in a way not instantly clear to every single user involved. However, most blockchains fall short in privacy aspects, particularly in data protection. Garlic Routing and Onion Routing are two of major Privacy Enhancing Techniques (PETs) which are popular for anonymization and security. Garlic Routing is a methodology using by I2P Anonymous Network to hide the identity of sender and receiver of data packets by bundling multiple messages into a layered encryption structure. The Onion Routing attempts to provide lowlatency Internet-based connections that resist traffic analysis, deanonymization attack, eavesdropping, and other attacks both by outsiders (e.g. Internet routers) and insiders (Onion Routing servers themselves). As there are a few controversies over the rate of resistance of these two techniques to privacy attacks, we propose a PET-Enabled Sidechain (PETES) as a new privacy enhancing technique by integrating Garlic Routing and Onion Routing into a Garlic Onion Routing (GOR) framework suitable to the structure of blockchains. Wireless technology is advancing rapidly with time. People are doing research nowadays mostly in the field of telecommunication. VANET is the most growing research area in wireless communication. With the advancement and maturity of the VANET, there will be a great revolution in the field of wireless communication in terms of fast handovers, network availability, security, safety with the use of advanced applications etc. VANET technology is advancing with the passage of time but there are many issues that has to be addressed to make the network more vigorous. In view of aforesaid, in this paper we have studied and discussed various research works related to the applications, protocols and security in VANET. Moreover, after reviewing the existing works, we have analyzed them and found the pros and cons for the future research.

Today, YouTube is the most used platform for sharing videos from individual to organizations. Along with the sharing videos, YouTube creates a social networking platform by allowing sharing of feelings, views, and opinions about a video called vlog. It also allows uploading of videos of all ages (child, young and old people). YouTube has its policy for defining age-restricted content on YouTube. But a lot of uploaded videos are not marked as age restricted though they actually contain pornographic contents. YouTube has a team for reviewing the video content upon receiving a report from the user only. All the existing methods identify the pornographic video based on the visual or audio-visual features of video. However, there is no automatic method exist the author aware of identifying them based on vlogger sentiment. Thus, the challenge of automatically detecting this kind of video content is significant in applications like content filtering, detection of illegal content, etc. In this paper, we present an automatic method for identifying the pornographic content on YouTube based on the vlog stream. The experiment has been executed on both the age-restricted vlog stream and non-restricted vlog stream to validate the proposed method. The experimental result shows the effectiveness of the proposed methodology with nearly 80% accuracy.

Brain-computer Interfaces (BCI) arose as systems that merge computing systems with the human brain to facilitate recording, stimulation, and inhibition of neural activity. Over the years, the development of BCI technologies has shifted towards miniaturization of devices that can be seamlessly embedded into the brain and can target single neuron or small population sensing and control. We present a motivating example highlighting vulnerabilities of two promising micron-scale BCI technologies, demonstrating the lack of security and privacy principles in existing solutions. This situation opens the door to a novel family of cyberattacks, called neuronal cyberattacks, affecting neuronal signaling. This paper defines the first two neural cyberattacks, Neuronal Flooding (FLO) and Neuronal Scanning (SCA), where each threat can affect the natural activity of neurons. This work implements these attacks in a neuronal simulator to determine their impact over the spontaneous neuronal behavior, defining three metrics: number of spikes, percentage of shifts, and dispersion of spikes. Several experiments demonstrate that both cyberattacks produce a reduction of spikes compared to spontaneous behavior, generating a rise in temporal shifts and a dispersion increase. Mainly, SCA presents a higher impact than FLO in the metrics focused on the number of spikes and dispersion, where FLO is slightly more damaging, considering the percentage of shifts. Nevertheless, the intrinsic behavior of each attack generates a differentiation on how they alter neuronal signaling. FLO is adequate to generate an immediate impact on the neuronal activity, whereas SCA presents higher effectiveness for damages to the neural signaling in the long-term. Blockchain-enabled authentication handover with efficient privacy protection in SDN-based 5G networks

5G mobile networks provide additional benefits in terms of lower latency, higher data rates, and more coverage, in comparison to 4G networks, and they are also coming close to standardization. For example, 5G has a new level of data transfer and processing speed that assures users are not disconnected when they move from one cell to another;thus, supporting faster connection. However, it comes with its own technical challenges relating to resource management, authentication handover and user privacy protection. In 5G, the frequent displacement of the users among the cells as a result of repeated authentication handovers often lead to a delay, contradicting the 5G objectives. In this paper, we propose a new authentication approach that utilizes blockchain and software defined networking (SDN) techniques to remove the re-authentication in repeated handover among heterogeneous cells. The proposed approach is designed to assure the low delay, appropriate for the 5G network in which users can be replaced with the least delay among heterogeneous cells using their public and private keys provided by the devised blockchain component while protecting their privacy. In our comparison between Proof-of-Work (POW)-based and network-based models, the delay of our authentication handover was shown to be less than 1ms. Also, our approach demonstrated less signaling overhead and energy consumption compared to peer models. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Nowadays it is crucial for maintaining security defence on devices against cybercrimes over the Internet. None of the existing systems proved to be flawless, though various approaches have been used to counter cybercrime activities. This paper proposes a real time model for identifying and collecting cybercrime evidences. In particular, the proposed model comprises three main components, rules-based IDS for cybercrimes monitoring and identifying their features. Database for collecting and storing features of new cybercrimes and BASE for result viewing in real time. Features installed on Raspberry Pi, were dedicated for data collection process. The proposed model is efficient in identifying and collecting network cybercrimes evidences in real time based on the result demonstrated.

A Hybrid Screen Size Independent Authentication Scheme for Smart Devices

Although, several authentication schemes have already been proposed for smart devices; however, most of these schemes does not consider the fact that smart devices come in different sizes. Hence, they are not screen size independent — which is the point of interest in this paper. Again, alongside screen size independence, a secure scheme also must defend the aforementioned attacks. Taking these concerns into account, in this paper, a hybrid screen size independent authentication scheme is proposed for smart devices that integrates Vibration Code or VC and Press Touch Code or PTC using a juggling-based approach. Here, VC ensures resilience against the shoulder surfing attack since it is a sense based technique and hybridization of both these schemes contribute to attaining resilience against the smudge and brute force attacks up to some extent. In addition, the proposed scheme does not require a space more than the placement of a finger on the screen; and thus, it is screen size independent. The proposed scheme is evaluated in terms of security and functionality; and compared with other similar schemes where it outperforms the others.

Business Model Canvas (BMC) is a tool widely used to describe startup business models. Despite the various business aspects described, BMC pays a little emphasis on team- related factors. The importance of team-related factors in software development has been acknowledged widely in literature. While not as extensively studied, the importance of teams in software startups is also known in both literature and among practitioners. In this paper, we propose potential changes to BMC to have the tool better reflect the importance of the team, especially in a software startup environment. Based on a literature review, we identify various components related to the team, which we then further support with empirical data. We do so by means of a qualitative case study of five startups.

FairSearch: A tool for fairness in ranked search results

Ranked search results and recommendations have become the main mechanism by which we find content, products, places, and people online. With hiring, selecting, purchasing, and dating being increasingly mediated by algorithms, rankings may determine business opportunities, education, access to benefits, and even social success. It is therefore of societal and ethical importance to ask whether search results can demote, marginalize, or exclude individuals of unprivileged groups or promote products with undesired features. In this paper we present FairSearch, the first fair open source search API to provide fairness notions in ranked search results. We implement two well-known algorithms from the literature, namely FA*IR (Zehlike et al., [2017]) and DELTR (Zehlike and Castillo, [2018]) and provide them as stand-alone libraries in Python and Java. Additionally we implement interfaces to Elasticsearch for both algorithms, a well-known search engine API based on Apache Lucene. The interfaces use the aforementioned Java libraries and enable search engine developers who wish to ensure fair search results of different styles to easily integrate DELTR and FA*IR into their existing Elasticsearch environment.
