The advent of social networks and the Internet of Things have created massive data sets with huge and complex structures. Thus, new technology for storage, analysis, and pattern visualization must be developed for further processing. Such data sets are appropriately termed as “Big Data.” Big data Analytics is concerned with exposing and visualizing hidden patterns, as well as with analyzing the knowledge that is produced to facilitate decision making. In retailing, analyzing the massive data generated from business transactions is crucial to enhancing the insights of vendors into consumer behaviors and purchases, thus providing them an advantage in decision making. The capability to extract value from big data is a relevant issue, but the process is difficult as the volume and velocity of data increase. As a result, traditional business intelligence methods become inadequate. Consequently, we propose an agent-based paradigm in this study to facilitate the use of Big Data Analytics in retailing. The paradigm exploits agent characteristics such as autonomy, pro-activity, and intelligence in performing data analytics processes. We also review the background of the situation and discuss the characteristics, properties, applications, and challenges of integrating Big Data with multi-agent systems in retailing.

Reversible watermarking has drawn a lot of interest in recent years. To be reversible mean the original digital carrier can be completely restored. Sachnev et al proposed reversible watermarking algorithm by combining prediction technology, histogram shifting technology and sorting technology, which has good performance, however, their method is against the characteristics of the human visual system. In this paper, we propose a reversible watermarking algorithm to improve Sachnev et al algorithm by using new sorting method. The performance of the proposed reversible watermarking algorithm is evaluated and compared with Sachnev et al method. The results indicate that the proposed scheme can embed data with less distortion. © 2014 IEEE.

Optimization problem relates to finding the best solution from all feasible solutions. Over the last 30 years, many meta-heuristic algorithms have been developed in the literature including that of Simulated Annealing (SA), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Harmony Search Algorithm (HS) to name a few. In order to help engineers make a sound decision on the selection amongst the best meta-heuristic algorithms for the problem at hand, there is a need to assess the performance of each algorithm against common case studies. Owing to the fact that they are new and much of their relative performance are still unknown (as compared to other established meta-heuristic algorithms), Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFO) and Bat Algorithm (BA) have been adopted for comparison using the 12 selected benchmark functions. In order to ensure fair comparison, both BFO and BA are implemented using the same data structure and the same language and running in the same platform (i.e. Microsoft Visual C# *** Framework 4.5). We found that BFO gives more accurate solution as compared to BA (with the same number of iterations). However, BA exhibits faster convergence rate. © 2014 IEEE.

In this century, most of the companies use the electricity from the fossils fuels such as oil, gas and coal. This method will give negative impact to the environment and the fossils fuel will be run out. This project is to develop a microbial fuels cell that can produce electricity. There are several types of the microbial fuel cell, which are a single chamber, double chamber and continuous. In this paper, the double chamber microbial fuel cell was selected to investigate the effect of suspended sludge into the double chamber microbial fuels cell. The salt bridge will construct between both chambers of the double chamber microbial fuels cell. Carbon graphite rod is selected as an electrode at the cathode and anode to transfer the electron from the anode to the cathode. Electricity is generated from the anaerobic oxidation of organic matter by bacteria. At the end of this project, the microbial fuels cell was successful in generating electricity that can be used for a specific application.

Most existing routing algorithms assume wireless nodes use maximal transmission power or set up the power at the beginning of the network configuration. These static approaches potentially introduce signal interference that can be mitigated through power control. In this paper, we propose a Joint Channel assignment, stable Routing and adaptive Power control (JCRP) approach that dynamically controls the transmission power to avoid the channel interference for improving the channel utility. Our JCRP allows a node to control its transmission power to a certain value at which it has a longest channel conflict-free time. Besides, we propose a novel routing metric integrated selecting stability (ISS) to measure the quality of links, which considers node mobility and channel interference, together with the dynamical power control. The simulation results demonstrate that our JCRP significantly outperforms the related routing algorithms in terms of network throughput.

Entanglement, one of the central mysteries of quantum mechanics, plays an essential role in numerous tasks of quantum information science. A natural question of both theoretical and experimental importance is whether universal entanglement detection can be accomplished without full state tomography. In this Letter, we prove a no-go theorem that rules out this possibility for nonadaptive schemes that employ single-copy measurements only. We also examine a previously implemented experiment [H. Park et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 230404 (2010)], which claimed to detect entanglement of two-qubit states via adaptive single-copy measurements without full state tomography. In contrast, our simulation and experiment both support the opposite conclusion that the protocol, indeed, leads to full state tomography, which supplements our no-go theorem. These results reveal a fundamental limit of single-copy measurements in entanglement detection and provide a general framework of the detection of other interesting properties of quantum states, such as the positivity of partial transpose and the k-symmetric extendibility.

This paper present a distributed test suite execution in term of code coverage analysis for testing a t-way test suite data using tuple space technology with Map and Reduce mechanism. The generated t-way test suite data and software under test (SUT) source code are preloaded into their respective partition using hash based routing algorithm. Each partition parsed each test case within the test suite into actual test data file. The code coverage of SUT source code is tested with each test case in actual test data and produces a test coverage result at their respective partition in term of class, method, block and line coverage. A case study of CGPA calculator as SUT is done to measure the test suite execution performance in term of test coverage with varying interaction strength on single and multiple machine environments. The scalability analysis of distributed test suite execution is also done in term of speedup gained while running on a multiple machine environments. An encouraging result is obtained on test coverage and speedup for multiple machine environments as compared to single machine environment. Higher test coverage and more speedup is obtained in higher machine environments. © 2014 IEEE.

The vision of 21st century computing is that users can access Internet services over lightweight portable devices rather than via variants of the traditional desktop computer. Consequently, users will have no interest in large, powerful machines. How, then, will computing power be provided? The answer to this question lies in cloud computing. Cloud computing is a recent trend in IT in which computing power and knowledge are moved away from the desktop and desktop PCs into giant datacenters. In the cloud computing paradigm, applications are delivered as services over the Internet. The key driving forces behind cloud computing are the presence of broadband and wireless networking, falling storage prices, and progressive enhancements in Internet computing software packages. Cloud service shoppers can add additional capabilities at peak demand, reduce prices, experiment with new services, and remove unessential capabilities. Service suppliers can increase utilization via multiplexing and allow for larger investments in software packages and hardware. © 2014 IEEE.

With the advancement of technology in communication network, it facilitated digital medical images transmitted to healthcare professional via internal network or public network (e.g. Internet). Consequently, digital medical image security has become an important issue when images and their pertinent patient information are exposed to the threats, such as tampering of images to include false data which may lead to wrong diagnosis and treatment. Medical image distortion is not to be tolerated for diagnosis purposes, thus a reversible watermarking is introduced. This paper reviews the works that have done on the reversible watermarking scheme with tamper localization and recovery capability. © 2014 IEEE.
