Path planning for an identification mission of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle in a lemniscate form

This paper describes the algorithms for guidance and control of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for a specific identification mission. The goal is to traverse several times an object of interest on the sea floor in a given geometric path in order to maximize the amount of information that can be obtained using the optical and acoustical sensors. Existing ocean currents that can be estimated using a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) have to be considered when planning the path. We will describe the overall mission scenario and suggest a possible solution, based on an adequate planning of the path in form of a lemniscate and use the “chase the rabbit” approach for path following. This approach yields stable mission execution even in the presence of a considerable ocean current. The approach is validated with a state-of-the-art AUV using live tests in a special lake that contains a current. © 2018

The mathematical modeling of the Chaotic Colpitts Oscillator with two stages is carried out in the paper. The following results of mathematical modeling are obtained: oscillator's phase portrait in the planes of normalized dynamic variables;oscillator's phase portraits in the spaces of normalized dynamic variables;time diagrams of generated chaotic oscillations;amplitude-frequency and phase-frequency characteristics of generated chaotic oscillations. © 2018 IEEE.

It is known that many structural schemes can be used to implement digital filters. Some structures of digital filters are characterized by low sensitivity of the characteristics to the accuracy of the representation of the coefficients. A separate group of methods for the structural synthesis of digital filters is based on the expansion of rational fractions, including transfer functions, into continued fractions. Because of this decomposition, ladder structures are obtained. The sensitivity of such ladder structures is analyzed in this paper. As a measure of the structure sensitivity, estimations of the partial derivatives of the transfer function coefficients with respect to the expansion coefficients in continued fraction were used. The analysis showed that the sensitivity of the transfer function coefficients to some expansion coefficients is very small. However, the presented examples show that the sensitivity to certain coefficients of expansion can exceed the sensitivity of the classical direct and the canonic forms. © 2018 IEEE.

Polynomial neural networks (PNN) have emerged as an effective regression modeling methodology in computational intelligence, relying on its interpretable polynomial nodes to fit complex nonlinear data relationships and the adaptive nature of self-organizing networks. To break the bottleneck of PNN structure in the field of multi-classification, this study designs a dynamical multiple polynomial-based neural networks (DMPNN) classifier, focusing on developing a flexible polynomial network classification methodology that enhances predictive capabilities without sacrificing the advantages of PNN structures. Our approach effectively addresses the challenges of multi-class classification with uncertain class boundaries and reduces computational complexity, which is achieved through the synergy of several proposed techniques. Three key issues underpin the proposed DMPNN: (a) The integration of PNN regression models using the one-against-all strategy can provide effective and scalable solutions to multi-class classification problems, especially for uncertain class boundary issues. (b) The dual statistical selection (DSS) approach aims to eliminate redundant inputs during data processing, reduce the computational burden, and increase the variety of neural network nodes in the model neuron selection stage. (c) The synergy of regularization methods including the ℓ2 norm-based method (ℓ2-LSM) and the DropFilter, is exploited to mitigate potential overfitting in coefficient estimation and enhance the generalization capabilities of the proposed classifier. A series of ablation experiments and parameter analysis were conducted to demonstrate the stability and reliability of the proposed model. Then, we applied DMPNN to 17 publicly available datasets and two engineering applications: Recycling of black plastic wastes and phased resolved partial discharge. The performance results show that the DMPNN model outperforms five classical classifiers and four state-of-the-art (SOTA) class

Nowadays, the energy storage system (ESS) deployment is a promising solution for various perspectives of grid support. In particular, photovoltaic (PV) penetration is being increased rapidly in a present distribution network, causing voltage variation and violation issues. Hence, ESS has widely been utilized to mitigate voltage issues in distribution networks. This paper presents a study on the management of state of charge (SoC) of ESS for voltage regulation application in distribution networks. The voltage regulation strategy is proposed incorporating with SoC management. The SoC management strategy is applied to maintain the SoC of ESS within the desired value. In this paper, the SoC management issue has been investigated and analyzed by DIgSILENT Powerfactory software, according to the technical limitations of ESS. The simulation results show that the ESS requires appropriate SoC management to maintain simultaneously both aspects associated with the capability for voltage regulation and its energy availability.

Since proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers absolutely dominate the control engineering, numbers of different control structures and theories have been developed to enhance the efficiency of PID controllers. Thus, it is essential and inspiring to operate different PID control strategies to the PID2018 Benchmark Challenge. In this paper, a novel control strategy is designed for this refrigeration system, where a feedforward compensator and a conditional integrator are utilized to compensate the disturbances and remove the steady-state error in the benchmark problem, respectively. The simulation results given in the benchmark problem show the straightforward effectiveness of the proposed control structure compared with the existing control methods. © 2018

Modal regression based structured low-rank matrix recovery for multi-view learning

Low-rank Multi-view Subspace Learning (LMvSL) has shown great potential in cross-view classification in recent years. Despite their empirical success, existing LMvSL based methods are incapable of well handling view discrepancy and discriminancy simultaneously, which thus leads to the performance degradation when there is a large discrepancy among multi-view data. To circumvent this drawback, motivated by the block-diagonal representation learning, we propose Structured Low-rank Matrix Recovery (SLMR), a unique method of effectively removing view discrepancy and improving discriminancy through the recovery of structured low-rank matrix. Furthermore, recent low-rank modeling provides a satisfactory solution to address data contaminated by predefined assumptions of noise distribution, such as Gaussian or Laplacian distribution. However, these models are not practical since complicated noise in practice may violate those assumptions and the distribution is generally unknown in advance. To alleviate such limitation, modal regression is elegantly incorporated into the framework of SLMR (term it MR-SLMR). Different from previous LMvSL based methods, our MR-SLMR can handle any zero-mode noise variable that contains a wide range of noise, such as Gaussian noise, random noise and outliers. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) framework and half-quadratic theory are used to efficiently optimize MR-SLMR. Experimental results on four public databases demonstrate the superiority of MR-SLMR and its robustness to complicated noise. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The last years of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21th mark the facilitation trend of our real life due to the big development and progress of the computers and other intelligent devices. Algorithms based on artificial intelligence are basically a part of the software. The transmitted information by Internet or LAN arises continuously and it is expected that the protection of the data has been ensured. The aim of the present paper is to reveal false names of users’ accounts as a result of hackers’ attacks. The probability a given account to be either false or actual is calculated using a novel approach combining machine learning analysis (especially clusters’ analysis) with chaos theory. The suspected account will be used as a pattern and by classification techniques clusters will be formed with a respective probability this name to be false. This investigation puts two main purposes: First, to determine if there exists a trend of appearance of the similar usernames, which arises during the creation of new accounts. Second, to detect the false usernames and to discriminate those from the real ones, independently of that if two types of accounts are generated with the same speed. These security systems are applied in different areas, where the security of the data in users’ accounts is strictly required. For example, they can be used in on-line voting for balloting, in studying the social opinion by inquiries, in protection of the information in different user accounts of given system etc. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. The increasing demand for low-carbon power and concerns about the environment resulted in the proliferation of alternative sources of energy. Among these sources, the photovoltaic systems stand out. However, these systems produce energy in direct current and require power inverters to connect them to the electric grid. For this connection to be realized the generated signal must have the same parameters of amplitude, phase, and frequency of the electrical network. In this sense, Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) controllers are used to synchronize the output signal with the network signal. For this type of system there are several topologies, such as PLL Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF-PLL), Second-Order Generalized Integrator PLL (SOGI-PLL), Enhanced PLL (EPLL) and Quadrature PLL (QPLL). This work proposes to compare these four controller topologies applied to the inverter of the photovoltaic system connected to the electric grid.

In the present paper will be discussed the problem related to the individual household electric power consumption of objects in different areas - industry, farmers, banks, hospitals, theaters, hostels, supermarkets, universities. The main goal of the directed research is to estimate the active P and full S power consumptions for all studied buildings. The defined goal is achieved by solving of the following three problems. The first problem studies which buildings increase their power consumption. The second one finds which objects have the greatest increase of power consumption. And the third problem regards if it is possible to make a short-term forecast, based on the solutions of previous two problems. The present research and solving of the aforementioned problems is conducted using fractional Brownian motion theory. The applicability of this approach is illustrated on the example with 20 real objects in different areas. The paper ends with conclusion notes about possibilities to make short-term forecasts about power consumption of the considered buildings. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.
