Address auto-configuration process is one of the most essential issues for Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs). Before nodes participate in multi-hop or internet communications, they must be assigned an IP address. Uniqueness and fast assignment of the IP addresses in MANETs are the main topics of the autoconfiguration process. The Logical Hierarchical Addressing (LHA) protocol was proposed to handle these topics in MANETs. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce the enhanced algorithms of the LHA protocol and to evaluate its performance results obtained from the Ns2 implementation. Our analysis shows that the performance results of the enhanced LHA are stable under any scenario and it reduces the latency to obtain an IP address compared to the MANETconf and Prophet protocols. In addition, LHA has less protocol overheads if it is compared to other protocols. Moreover, the introduced merging algorithm of the enhanced LHA shows that the protocol is able to handle special scenarios, such as the merging of more than two networks simultaneously. ©2009 IEEE.

Due to the geographical distribution, different cognitive capacity, and different domain competency of workers or learners, many misunderstandings can occur during Web based remote collaboration, leading to inefficient discussions and undesired results. To overcome these problems, a "Multimedia adaptive utilization" framework for dependable web based collaboration is proposed and evaluated. This assesses situations of remote users through fusing information of multiple biological sensors and the related contexts such as user profiles. Transmitting and using such information, the system adaptively supports Web based remote collaboration by stressing, warning, and presenting keywords/ summaries in multimedia. Then, effects of adaptive keyword/summary presentation are evaluated as to cognitive profiles of users such as short term memory capacity and associative learning skills when misunderstanding possibilities are estimated on the Web. These evaluations totally demonstrate the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed method. © 2009 IEEE.

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard offers a flexible communication solution for low-rate wireless small area networks. When the beacon mode is enabled, real-time communication is possible by using the Guaranteed Time Slots (GTS) mechanism. However, the beacon-enabled mode only supports a maximum of seven GTS allocated in each superframe, preventing other nodes to benefit from the guaranteed service. This paper introduces the SIGHT (Skips In GTS scHeduling for IEEE 802.15.4 neTworks) model, which incorporates a dynamic GTS allocation policy for IEEE 802.15.4 networks based on the (m,k)-firm task model. Our approach ensures that at least m messages are allocated in a guaranteed slot, for any k consecutive superframes. It adopts a deterministic schedulability test and an on-line prioritization heuristic algorithm called Slotted DBP (Distance Based Priority) to attend requests according to this schedulability model. A simulation model has been developed, in order to compare the behaviour in overload conditions of the proposed Slotted DBP with other approaches (DWCS and FIFO).

In this paper a decentralized approach to state estimation of distributed dynamical systems over unreliable communication network subject to uncertain and limited measurements is addressed. Specifically, a distributed filtering concept for enhancing the estimation accuracy of vehicles state from uncertain position data in ad-hoc vehicle networks is presented. The filter relies on a variety of position measurements obtained from the on-board vehicle positioning system, from other nearby cooperating vehicles, as well as from the immediate roadside environment via communication. Direct distance measurements between vehicles as well as between vehicles and the static elements of the roadside infrastructure can be used, if available, as highly accurate reference measurements. The paper demonstrates how successfully the idea of cooperative filtering in addressing the demands of both sensor fault tolerance and enhanced estimation accuracy in distributed systems over ad-hoc communication networks can be used. © 2009 IFAC.

The paper proposes an alternative way to solve robust reference tracking problem. Instead of rejecting the effect of the disturbance directly, an intermediate step is built into the state estimation problem. The advantage of the methodology is to elaborate a modified optimal state estimation problem taking the unbiased estimate of the disturbance into account. Henceforward, the solution of the discrete time, optimal LQ minimax tracking problem is modified and subjected to attenuate the disturbance residual. The paper addresses the nominal case for constant reference and disturbance signal showing the asymptotical stability and the tracking performance of the discrete time, optimal min-max control. Suboptimal solution is given for time varying reference and disturbance signal. A linearized hovering quadrotor example demonstrates the importance of the suggested technique. © 2009 EUCA.

The paper presents a joint state and unmeasured input estimation technique for a special class of nonlinear second order macroscopic traffic model. The freeway traffic system is transformed into a quasi and affine approximate Lin- ear Parameter Varying (LPV) form. Observer design technique is formulated using off-line optimization problem subjected to Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) conditions, considering uncertain scheduling parameters. Furthermore, locally designed state estimators are interconnected to cover multiple freeway sections. The elaborated method is validated using real traffic measurements. © 2009 EUCA.

The paper presents an alternative formulation of the interpolation based constrained H∞ control presented originally in [16], [12], [17]. The concept itself has not been changed: by interpolating among unconstrained state feedback gains both the H∞ performance and the satisfaction of the hard state, input and output constraints can be guaranteed. The novelty is in the computation of the region of applicability of the controller. It is now based on the d-invariant sets of the individual controllers and not on the high dimensional extended system comprising all of the closed loops generated by the controllers. © 2009 EUCA.
