This paper suggests an online, rapid, dynamic, and pragmatic cross-correlation (CC) technique to eﬀectively realize maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of the photovoltaic (PV) array. The PV voltage and current are extracted, averaged, and rate of change of the power and terminal voltage dynamics are integrally cross-correlated to regulate the duty ratio of the converter. According to this approach, the maximum power point (MPP) is defned in terms of the polarity of the CC coefcient (rcc). If the CC coefcient is positive, the operating point is at left of the MPP, while a negative CC coefcient indicates that the operating point is located at right of the MPP, otherwise the MPP is attained zero CC coefcient with lower steady-state ﬂuctuations. In this regard, a tracking optimization can be realized with confned drift either under gradual or step solar irradiance changes. The proposed CC technique quickly converges to the MPP without identifcation of PV array parameters. Besides, the proposed CC tracking algorithm tracks MPP with wide-range small step-size iterations since the search area is restricted to the vicinity of the MPP rather than the entire PV curve. Moreover, the proposed technique is featured by robustness against system parameters and load variations with simple hardware implementation as compared to several existing techniques. The eﬀectiveness of the proposed technique is thoroughly explored via time-domain, experimental, and hardware-in-loop investigations and meanwhile compared to the two most popular techniques: P&O INC methods, for both gradual and step irradiance changes and also shadow eﬀects. © 2022, The Authors. In this paper, given a linear time-invariant strongly connected network, we study the problem of determining the minimum number of state variables that need to be simultaneously actuated and measured to ensure structural controllability and observability, respectively. This problem is fundamental in the design of multi-agent systems, where there are economic constraints in the decision of which agents to equip with a more costly on-board system that will allow the agent to have both actuation and sensing capabilities. Despite the combinatorial nature of this problem, we present a solution that couples the design of both structural controllability and structural observability counterparts to address it with polynomial-time complexity. Anomaly detection is essential to ensure the safety of industrial processes. This paper presents an anomaly detection approach based on the probability density estimation and principle of justifiable granularity. First, time series data are transformed into a two-dimensional information granule by the principle of justifiable granularity. Then, the test statistic is constructed, and the probability density and cumulative distribution functions of the test statistic are calculated. Next, the confidence level determines the test threshold. Finally, the time series data of a key parameter in the sintering process is used as a case study. The experimental result demonstrates that the proposed approach can detect abnormal time series data effectively, providing an accurate and effective solution for detecting time series anomalies in industrial processes.

Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence.

Reduced Network Cumulative Constraint Violation for Distributed Bandit Convex Optimization under Slater’s Condition

This paper studies the distributed bandit convex optimization problem with time-varying inequality constraints, where the goal is to minimize network regret and cumulative constraint violation. To calculate network cumulative constraint violation, existing distributed bandit online algorithms solving this problem directly use the clipped constraint function to replace its original constraint function. However, the use of the clipping operation renders Slater’s condition (i.e, there exists a point that strictly satisfies the inequality constraints at all iterations) ineffective to achieve reduced network cumulative constraint violation. To tackle this challenge, we propose a new distributed bandit online primal–dual algorithm. If local loss functions are convex, we show that the proposed algorithm establishes an O(T max{c,1−c})network regret bound and an O(T 1−c/2) network cumulative constraint violation bound, where T is the total number of iterations and c ∈ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter. When Slater’s condition holds, the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(T 1−c). In addition, if local loss functions are strongly convex, for the case where strongly convex parameters are unknown, the network regret bound is reduced to O(T1−c), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is O(T1−c/2) and O(T1−c) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. For the case where strongly convex parameters are known, the network regret bound is further reduced to O)(log(T)), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(log(T)T) and O(log(T)) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is among the first to establish reduced (network) cumulative constraint violation bounds for (distributed) bandit convex optimization with time-varying constraints under Slater’s condition. The global spread of the COVID-19 virus has become one of the greatest challenges that humanity has faced in recent years. The unprecedented circumstances of forced isolation and uncertainty that it has imposed on us continue to impact our mental well-being, whether or not we have been directly affected by the virus. Over a period of nearly three years (2017-2020), data was collected from multiple administrations of the Rorschach test, one of the most renowned and extensively studied psychological tests. This study involved the clustering of data, collected through the RAP3 software, to analyze the distinctive trends in data recorded before and after the pandemic. This was achieved through the implementation of the well-established machine learning algorithm, Expectation-Maximization. The proposed solution effectively identifies the key variables that significantly influence the subject's score and provides a reliable solution. Additionally, the solution offers an intuitive visualization that can assist psychologists in accurately interpreting shifts in trends and response distributions within a large amount of data in the two periods. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. This paper investigates a distributed formation tracking control law for large-scale networks of mechanical systems. In particular, the formation network is represented by a directed communication graph with leaders and followers, where each agent is described as a port-Hamiltonian system with a constant mass matrix. Moreover, we adopt a distributed parameter approach to prove the scalable asymptotic stability of the network formation, i.e., the scalability with respect to the network size and the specific formation preservation. Blood is vital for transporting oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to all body parts as it circulates through arteries and veins. It removes carbon dioxide, regulates body temperature, and maintains the body's immune system. Individuals constantly need blood and its derivatives to save their lives and improve their health through medical treatments and surgical operations. Liver diseases are one of the diseases that affects the health of individuals and requires blood to continue living. These diseases cause significant damage to people's health, and early diagnosis plays a crucial role in saving lives. In this paper, machine learning algorithms (support vector machine and random forest) are involved in detecting liver diseases and determining whether donors are suitable to donate blood from blood values. This paper is applied research that found that the performance measures of the random forest algorithm achieved excellent performance in identifying suitable people to donate blood.

Electric grid, as we nowadays know it, is undergoing a significant transformation. What we are now witnessing is an undoubted change of trend towards a decentralized and decarbonized electric grid, where the electric generation based on local resources will take on special relevance. In this context, the encouragement of collective self-consumption becomes one of the key issues when it comes to taking steps forward to this end. One of the aspects that will contribute to this aim is the development of a consumption-forecasting tool. Hence, a load-forecasting model based on NARX Neural Network is proposed in the following paper. The prediction of the next day (24h) load profile of an individual building is carried out aiming an optimal management of the flexible loads so to achieve the maximum self-consumption. To ensure a consistent behavior of the NARX Neural Network model, identification and removing of outliers, together with data normalization and fixing common time interval has been carried out. The first results of the research are promising, being obtained a 17, 6% MAPE in NARX and 25, 19% with LSTM model, both evaluated during a regular week on winter in adverse conditions. © 2021 University of Split, FESB.
