Shifting dynamics of self-immolation in the capital of Iran? The rising trend among young, unmarried, less-educated men

In our study, we aimed to explore the psychiatric disorders, risk factors, and predictors of self-immolation among individuals admitted to Shahid Motahari Hospital in Tehran from 2019 to 2020. This cross-sectional study examines 64 hospitalized patients who received psychiatric counseling following self-immolation incidents. The rate of self-immolation varies significantly based on specific demographics. It is observed that in our population men had a higher rate of being unmarried (70.96 % vs 15.15 %), lower levels of education (70.96 % vs 63.63 % did not have a university degree), higher level of unemployment (54.83 % vs 30.30 %), younger age average with most men aging 15–24 (29.06 (SD = 9.33)) vs women 35–44 (35.27(SD = 10.27)) and higher prevalence of addiction (67.74 % vs 36.36 %) compared to women. On the other hand, women who attempted self-immolation mainly were married, involved in housekeeping, and tended to exhibit higher rates of depression (63.63 % vs 32.25 %) than men. Furthermore, these self-immolation incidents are often impulsive (64.1 %) and occur shortly (under an hour) after experiencing a stressor (39.1 %). Self-immolation accidents are frequently carried out using gasoline (50 %). Geographically, the majority of self-immolation cases of our study are concentrated in the central region of Iran (76.6 %), followed by the western region (15.6 %) this may be due to the proximity of these regions to our center while patients of other regions were hospitalized in their referral hospitals and were rarely transferred to the capital. To effectively address the issue of self-immolation and reduce its prevalence, it is essential to identify vulnerable populations and explore targeted preventive measures. Based on our findings, future pilot studies could investigate the feasibility of specific interventions, such as crisis hotlines to reduce impulsivity-related acts of self-immolation. The paper is dedicated to the area of feature selection, in particular a notion of attribute rankings that allow to estimate importance of variables. In the research presented for ranking construction a new weighting factor was defined, based on relative reducts. A reduct constitutes an embedded mechanism of feature selection, specific to rough set theory. The proposed factor takes into account the number of reducts in which a given attribute exists, as well as lengths of reducts. Two approaches for reduct generation were employed and compared, with search executed by a genetic algorithm. To validate the usefulness of the reduct-based rankings in the process of feature reduction, for gradually decreasing subsets of attributes, selected through rankings, sets of decision rules were induced in classical rough set approach. The performance of all rule classifiers was evaluated, and experimental results showed that the proposed rankings led to at least the same, or even increased classification accuracy for reduced sets of features than in the case of operating on the entire set of condition attributes. The experiments were performed on datasets from stylometry domain, with treating authorship attribution as a classification task, and stylometric descriptors as characteristic features defining writing styles.

In this paper we present new (stochastic) passivity properties for Direct Current (DC) power networks, where the unknown and unpredictable load demand is modelled by a stochastic process. More precisely, the considered power network consists of distributed generation units supplying ZIP loads, i.e., nonlinear loads comprised of impedance (Z), current (I) and power (P) components. Differently from the majority of the results in the literature, where each of these components is assumed to be constant, we consider time-varying loads whose dynamics are described by a class of stochastic differential equations. Finally, we prove that an existing distributed control scheme achieving current sharing and (average) voltage regulation ensures the asymptotic stochastic stability of the controlled network.

Structural systems theory: An overview of the last 15 years

In this paper, we provide an overview of the research conducted in the context of structural systems since the latest survey by Dion et al. in 2003. We systematically consider all the papers that cite this survey as well as the seminal work in this field that took place on and after the publication of the later survey, are published in peer-reviewed venues and in English. Structural systems theory deals with parametric systems where parameters might be unknown and, therefore, addresses the study of systems properties that depend only on the systems structure (or topology) described by the inter-dependencies between state variables. Remarkably, structural systems properties hold generically (i.e., almost always) under the assumption that parameters are independent. Therefore, it constitutes an approach to assess necessary conditions that systems should satisfy. In recent years, structural systems theory was applied to design systems that attain such properties, as well as to endure resilient/security and privacy properties. Furthermore, structural systems theory enables the formulation of such topics as combinatorial optimization problems, which allow us to understand their computational complexity and find algorithms that are efficiently deployed in the context of large-scale systems. In particular, we present an overview of how structural systems theory has been used in the context of linear time-invariant systems, as well as other dynamical models, for which a brief description of the different problem statements and solutions approaches are presented. Next, we describe recent variants of structural systems theory, as well as different applications of the classical and new approaches. In computer vision, when labeled images of the target domain are highly insufficient, it is challenging to build an accurate classifier. Domain adaptation stands for an effective solution to address it by utilizing available and related source domain which has sufficient labeled images, even when there is a substantial difference in properties and distributions of these two domains. Yet, most prior approaches merely reduce subspace conditional or marginal distribution differences between domains but entirely ignoring label dependence (LD) information of source data in subspace. This article proposes a novel approach of domain adaptation, called enhanced subspace distribution matching (ESDM), which makes good use of label information to enhance the distribution matching between the source and target domains in a shared subspace. It reduces both conditional and marginal distributions in a shared subspace during a procedure of kernel principal dimensionality reduction and also preserves source data LD information to the maximum extent, thereby significantly improving cross domain subspace distribution matching. We also provide a learning algorithm with highly affordable computation, which solves the ESDM optimization problem without using time-consuming iterations. Results confirm that it can well outperform several recent domain adaptation methods on image classification tasks in terms of classification accuracy and running time. The results can be used in social cognition, person reidentification, and human-machine interactions. © 2014 IEEE.

Energy is essential for human existence, and its high consumption is a growing concern in today's technology-driven society. Global initiatives aim to reduce energy consumption and pollution by developing and deploying energy-efficient sensing technologies for long-term monitoring, control, automation, security, and interactions. Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) benefit a lot from the continuous monitoring capabilities of these sensing devices, which include medical sensors worn on or implanted in the human body for healthcare monitoring. Despite significant advancements, achieving energy efficiency in WBANs remains a significant challenge. A deep understanding of the WBAN architecture is essential to identify the causes of its energy inefficiency and develop novel energy-efficient solutions. We investigate energy efficiency issues specific to WBANs. We discuss the transformative impact that artificial intelligence and Machine Learning (ML) can have on achieving the energy efficiency of WBANs. Additionally, we explore the potential of emerging technologies such as quantum computing, nano-technology, biocompatible energy harvesting, and Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) in enabling energy efficiency in WBANs. We focus on WBANs' architecture, hardware, and software components to identify key factors responsible for energy consumption in the WBAN environment. Based on our comprehensive review, we introduce an innovative, energy-efficient three-tier architecture for WBANs that employs ML and edge computing to overcome the limitations inherent in existing energy-efficient solutions. Finally, we summarize the lessons learned and highlight future research directions that will enable the development of energy-efficient solutions for WBANs.

In this paper we deal with an overtaking and lane change strategy for autonomous vehicles. The algorithm is divided into two main layers. The upper layer is responsible for the decision making (e.g lane changing). Before decision-making we predict the motion of other participants and divide the road into discrete sets in each interval, then we compute the probability of occupancy. Considering the state of the motion of ego vehicle we can compute the probability of collision. After assigning a graph points to discrete elements, the probability of collision is ordered to the graph edges, then we determine the route with the smallest cost. The decision-making algorithm is not able to control the vehicle, so it is necessary to design a traceable trajectory for the vehicle. Since we have a series of points to be reached for the future, this can be used as a reference vector for the trajectory design algorithm. One Model Predicitve controller (MPC) is responsible for the design of the trajectory so we can obtain limitations to several states to ensure comfort and security. Extending the algorithm, we can compute the longitudinal movement as well. In this paper the decision-making and the trajectory planning algorithm is presented, and the whole model validated in CarMaker. © 2019 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In counteraction to the increasing threat of cyber terrorism, the modeling to be predicted in guessing the predictive models for estimating the incidence of cyber-attacks for enterprise network in Myanmar are seriously needed. Although we need these models, there is no record of attacks, defenseless, outcome and threat to utilize the developing predictive models and authentication. The main purpose of this research is to determine whether SOC (Security Operation Center) manager uses cyber security model by using SOC results figures to prepare further cyber defense and incident response plan. The goal of this study was achieved by conducting experiments on various cyber-attacks occurred in security operation center of Industrial control System (ICS).

This paper performs a comparative analysis of Android mobile forensics tools which are used for acquisition and analyzing of Android mobile devices. The major challenges of Android forensics investigation are manufacturing of Android devices with various operating system versions and there is no single tool which can be used for all sorts of Android devices. Aiming to overcome these challenges and increase more accuracy and integrity in Android forensic investigation, we made comparative analysis on both open source tools and one commercial tool. Logical and physical acquisition methods were utilized to acquire data from Android devices. Android Debug Bridge backup, Linux Data Duplicator utility tool, Magnet Acquire and Belkasoft Acquisition tools were used for acquisition. Two popular analyzing tools such as Autopsy and Belkasoft Evidence Center were utilized to analyze acquired data. The results show that using multiple tools can get more accuracy and integrity of artifacts which is forensically sound.
