In this paper we address the problems of observer design for induction motors (IM). The rotor resistance and load torque are supposed to be unknown. The only measured signals are stator current and control voltage. The approach is based on a new way of applying Dynamic Regressor Extension and Mixing method (DREM) to regression models with non-stationary parameters. Firstly, using partial changes of coordinates and filtering technique, IM model is represented in regression-like form. Applying DREM yields relations, which are used to construct flux observer and rotor resistance estimator. On the next step proposed method is applied again to obtain speed and load torque estimates. The proposed speed observer design can be also applied to the permanent magnet synchronous motors.

Accurately diagnosing sleep disorders is essential for clinical assessments and treatments. Polysomnography (PSG) has long been used for detection of various sleep disorders. In this research, electrocardiography (ECG) and electromayography (EMG) have been used for recognition of breathing and movement-related sleep disorders. Bio-signal processing has been performed by extracting EMG features exploiting entropy and statistical moments, in addition to developing an iterative pulse peak detection algorithm using synchrosqueezed wavelet transform (SSWT) for reliable extraction of heart rate and breathing-related features from ECG. A deep learning framework has been designed to incorporate EMG and ECG features. The framework has been used to classify four groups: healthy subjects, patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), patients with restless leg syndrome (RLS) and patients with both OSA and RLS. The proposed deep learning framework produced a mean accuracy of 72% and weighted F1 score of 0.57 across subjects for our formulated four-class problem. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

This paper, submitted for the Workshop/Theme session on Virtual & Augmented Reality: Technology, Design & Human Factors, organized by ISPRS Working Group IV/9, explores the research field opened by experiments in virtual environments from multidisciplinary approach. At the recently established Cognitive Cartography Lab, Eötvös University, Budapest we designed an experiment to study and better understand the role of visuospatial displays in spatial cognition, in particular the cognitive conditions of navigation in an imaginary city with a map. Below we present some preliminary results based on our experiments recording the spatial behaviour of 62 subjects, including their verbal reactions and eye tracking data collected during the sessions. We measured the wayfinding behaviour of participants after an active or passive learning phase. The analysis of the accumulated data suggested no significant differences in the efficiency of spatial problem solving between the groups of subjects. For further investigation we found that - although salient visual cues grasped the attention of the participants - they could not benefit from this knowledge of landmarks in the actual navigational tasks. Despite the lack of group differences, the low number of getting lost in such complex, large-scale virtual environment suggests that participants could solve the navigational tasks rather efficiently, most probably due to using different cognitive strategies. The project was part of an educational development plan and was supported by the Student Talent Grant of Eötvös University. It was designed by a multidisciplinary research group including university students and offered them the opportunity to collaborate, cross disciplinary borders and develop their profile when contributing to front-line scientific research. © Authors 2018.

As the diameters of wind turbine rotors increase, the loads across the rotors are becoming more uneven due to inhomogeneous wind fields. Therefore, more advanced passive or active load reduction techniques are introduced to mitigate these uneven loads. Furthermore, measuring the disturbance can help to improve the control performance. This paper first examines how robust stability and performance are affected by uncertain sensor measurements when an integrator-based feedback is extended with an inversion-based feedforward individual pitch controller with similar bandwidth. A fixed-structured H_∞ feedback-feedforward controller is proposed. The proposed feedback-feedforward controller ensures robust stability and performance and achieves better load reduction than a classical integrator-based feedback controller combined with inversion-based feedforward controller.

Silicone Oil Damping for Quasi-static Micro Scanners with Electrostatic Staggered Vertical Comb Drives

Many applications like image projection, distance sensors or spectroscopy require high speed quasi-static operating scanners with the size of several millimeters for the laser beam guidance. Quasi-static micro scanners with electrostatic staggered vertical comb drives of sizes up to 5 mm achieve remarkable mechanical deflections of ±8 degree and eigenfrequencies of several hundred Hertz. Closed-loop control of the scanner position highly reduces parasitic eigenfrequency oscillation when driving an arbitrary trajectory like triangle or saw tooth, but requires position feedback and high performant drive electronics for real-time control. In this contribution we investigate silicone oil to attenuate undesired oscillations by passive mechanic damping. We present experimental results with different viscosity and determine the resulting system parameters such as damping coefficient, eigenfrequency and permittivity, supported by transient simulations. While the permittivity, refractive index and damping increase significantly, the deceasing eigenfrequency results in slower admissible trajectories. The overall performance is assessed and compared to the active damping approach using closed-loop control of the micro scanner operating in air. Finally, a potential packaging technology is presented.

—The mathematical model for many problems is arising in different industries of natural science, basically formulated using differential, integral and integro-differential equations. The investigation of these equations is conducted with the help of numerical integration theory. It is commonly known that a class of problems can be solved by applying numerical integration. The construction of the quadrature formula has a direct relation with the computation of definite integrals. The theory of definite integrals is used in geometry, physics, mechanics and in other related subjects of science. In this work, the existence and uniqueness of the solution of above-mentioned equations are investigated. By this way, the domain has been defined in which the solution of these problems is equivalent. All proposed four problems can be solved using one and the same methods. Manifold learning now plays a very important role in machine learning and many relevant applications. Although its superior performance in dealing with nonlinear data distribution, data sparsity is always a thorny knot. There are few researches to well handle it in manifold learning. In this paper, we propose Hierarchic Neighbors Embedding (HNE), which enhance local connection by the hierarchic combination of neighbors. After further analyzing topological connection and reconstruction performance, three different versions of HNE are given. The experimental results show that our methods work well on both synthetic data and high-dimensional real-world tasks. HNE develops the outstanding advantages in dealing with general data. Furthermore, comparing with other popular manifold learning methods, the performance on sparse samples and weak-connected manifolds is better for HNE. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. The main goal of the paper is to study the equilibria of a nonlinear system, proving the existence and uniqueness of an equilibrium point in the positive ortant. We also provide numerically tractable conditions (by using Linear Matrix Inequalities techniques) to check the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point. The development of the Production Unit Performance Management Tool (PUPMT), a monitoring and diagnostic tool to select basic signals that have a significant impact on output KPIs, is based on a hierarchical analysis of key performance indicators presented in the ISO 22400 standard. The growing number of quantified signals, such as ambient temperature or even the frequency of vibrations makes decision support tools more intelligent. Moreover, they also include predictive analysis in addition to online presentation of the current state of resources. PUPMT tool allows identifying key events that have a significant impact on current or future benefit in production output. It also allows what-if type analysis, running the simulation of the impact of the proposed changes, and the results of this simulation depend on the effects of similar changes that occurred in the past in a given smart manufacturing environment. Thanks to the automatic identification of potential dependencies, the proposed solution adapts to the specifics of a given environment or even a selected production unit. The paper describes the most important methods featured in the tool. Specifically, it considers a signal classification method, a signal correlation analysis and selection of key factors affecting the efficiency of the production process. In order to verify the methods various tests were carried out to calculate and control of OEE index on 20 production units. Finally, we conclude current results and future research directions.

An MPC-based consensus algorithm is proposed for current sharing in Direct Current (DC) microgrids. The proposed controller also ensures that both the buck converter output voltages as well as the load voltages remain within an acceptable range. The MPC scheme is designed using the notion of so-called finite-step control Lyapunov functions. Moreover, a deadbeat stable estimator is developed for the current loads which are assumed to be unknown constants. In particular, the current loads are accurately estimated in one time step. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified via an illustrative example. © 2018
