Cascading failures, such as bankruptcies and defaults, pose a serious threat for the resilience of the global financial system. Indeed, because of the complex investment and cross-holding relations within the system, failures can occur as a result of the propagation of a financial collapse from one organization to another. While this problem has been studied in depth from a static angle, namely, when the system is at an equilibrium, we take a different perspective and study the corresponding dynamical system. The contribution of this paper is threefold. First, we carry out a systematic analysis of the regions of attraction and invariance of the system orthants, defined by the positive and negative values of the organizations’ equity. Second, we investigate periodic solutions and show through a counterexample that there could exist periodic solutions of period greater than 2. Finally, we study the problem of finding the smallest cash injection that would bring the system to the maximal invariant region of the positive orthant. © 2025, CC BY.

Communication-centric Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) has been recognized as a promising methodology to implement wireless sensing functionality over existing network architectures, due to its cost-effectiveness and backward compatibility to legacy cellular systems. However, the inherent randomness of the communication signal may incur huge fluctuations in sensing capabilities, leading to unfavorable detection and estimation performance. To address this issue, we elaborate on random ISAC signal processing methods in this article, aiming at improving the sensing performance without unduly deteriorating the communication functionality. Specifically, we commence by discussing the fundamentals of sensing with random communication signals, including the performance metrics and optimal ranging waveforms. Building on these concepts, we then present a general framework for random ISAC signal transmission, followed by an in-depth exploration of time-domain pulse shaping, frequency-domain constellation shaping, and spatial-domain precoding methods. We provide a comprehensive overview of each of these topics, including models, results, and design guidelines. Finally, we conclude this article by identifying several promising research directions for random ISAC signal transmission. © 2025 IEEE.

Alzheimer's disease is the extremely popular cause of dementia that causes memory loss. People who have Alzheimer's disease suffer from a disorder in neurodegenerative which leads to loss in many brain functions. Nowadays researchers prove that early diagnosis of the disease is the most crucial aspect to enhance the care of patients' lives and enhance treatment. Traditional approaches for diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) suffers from long time with lack both efficiency and the time it takes for learning and training. Lately, deep-learning-based approaches have been considered for the classification of neuroimaging data correlated to AD. In this paper, we study the use of the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) in AD early detection, VGG-16 trained on our datasets is used to make feature extractions for the classification process. Experimental work explains the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2020 IEEE.

The need to use a wide variety of online services is rising every day in today's digital age. In order to authenticate and authorize users to access services, identity management is essential. To solve several problems such as fragment identity repositories, aim for identity theft and data breaches and identity correlation, the evolution of identity models across siloes, centralized and presently self-sovereign identity based on distributed ledger is emerging. Self-sovereign identity returns the power to the proprietor of the identity and puts the user at the core of the model. In this paper, we propose a framework to identify scam bank service calls and avoid possible loss of personal accounts. Our framework is based on Hyperledger Indy, a public and permissioned Distributed Ledger Technology. The proposed framework strengthens the Know Your Customer process and enhances the trust of third party agencies delegated by banks to deliver many financial items. © 2020 IEEE.

As IoT systems would have an economic impact, they are gaining growing interest. Millions of IoT devices are expected to join the internet of things, which will carny both major benefits and significant security threats to consumers. For IoT systems that secure data and preserve privacy of users, trust management is an essential component. IoT objects carry on the ownership settings of their owners, allowing them to interact with each other. Social relationships are believed to be important in confidence building. Fast convergent on-board Li-ion battery state of charge estimation via back-forth moving horizon estimation

Accurate state of charge (SOC) estimation is crucial for the safe operation of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), yet existing methods are limited by sensitivity to initial SOC guess or high computational complexity. To address these challenges, this study proposes an onboard back-forth moving horizon estimation (BFMHE) framework for SOC estimation, achieving high precision, robustness, and computational efficiency compatible with microcontroller implementation. An efficient linear equivalent circuit model (ECM) is established, where the open-circuit voltage-SOC relationship is approximated by piecewise linear functions. The proposed framework employs two MHE estimators that iteratively operate in opposite directions over a finite time horizon, which enables rapid convergence. Moreover, this study provides a rigorous proof of the stability of the BFMHE method for the battery system with current input. The proposed approach is validated experimentally under various operating conditions and with different initial SOC guesses. Experimental results show that the proposed onboard BFMHE method achieves a maximum estimation error of less than 1% and quickly converges to the true SOC value, demonstrating strong robustness to initial estimation errors. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

The exponential growth of academic publications has made scholarly research recommender systems indispensable tools for researchers. These systems rely on diverse evaluation metrics to assess their effectiveness and relevance. This paper provides a comprehensive review and analysis of these metrics, categorizing them into accuracy, ranking, diversity, user-centric, coverage, temporal, and computational metrics. By employing a mixed-methods approach, combining systematic literature review and empirical analysis, we identify the prevalence and application of these metrics across various scholarly domains such as literature, conferences, and reviewers. Our findings highlight the widespread use of traditional metrics like precision, recall, and Fl-score, while emphasizing the growing importance of novel metrics such as unexpectedness and serendipity, especially in literature and conference recommendations. We also underscore the domain-specific nature of metric selection, with user-centric evaluations more prominent in literature recommendations, and ranking-focused metrics dominant in conference and reviewer recommendations. Furthermore, the study reveals a significant gap in the use of temporal and computational metrics, suggesting key areas for future research. This review offers valuable insights for researchers and practitioners, guiding them in metric selection and highlighting potential directions for enhancing the effectiveness, adaptability, and user satisfaction of scholarly recommender systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Pneumonia is one of the top causes of death in Romania and early detection of this disease improves the recovery chances and shortens the length of hospitalization. In this work, we develop a solution for automatic pneumonia detection based on convolutional neural networks. Four network models are investigated. They are trained on 4.163 images from a public dataset and tested on 530 images. The best results are obtained by one of the proposed models conducting to a sensitivity of 98.72%, an accuracy of 89.81%, and ROC 93.46%. Thus, this research proposes a lightweight screening tool that can help triaging the patients with pneumonia. © 2023 IEEE.

The accuracy of Inertial Navigation systems (INS) has significantly improved, making previously negligible sensor errors, such as gravitational disturbances, major sources of errors. This paper analyzes the impact of gravitational anomalies on various stages of position calculation in INS and their influence on accuracy. The study includes the examination of gravitational disturbances using spherical harmonic decomposition and Legendre series, employing models like EIGCN-6C4 and WGS-84. It also explores the impact of these disturbances on initial alignment, the overall INS navigation process, and methods for compensating gravitational disturbances. Finally, simulations are conducted to validate the proposed hypotheses. This comprehensive analysis aims to enhance the understanding of gravitational disturbances and improve the accuracy and reliability of INS through detailed simulations and practical solutions. © 2024 IEEE.
