To investigate the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) to high resolution, the GoT2D and T2D-GENES consortia catalogued variation from whole-genome sequencing of 2,657 European individuals and exome sequencing of 12,940 individuals of multiple ancestries. Over 27M SNPs, indels, and structural variants were identified, including 99% of low-frequency (minor allele frequency [MAF] 0.1-5%) non-coding variants in the whole-genome sequenced individuals and 99.7% of low-frequency coding variants in the whole-exome sequenced individuals. Each variant was tested for association with T2D in the sequenced individuals, and, to increase power, most were tested in larger numbers of individuals (>80% of low-frequency coding variants in ~82 K Europeans via the exome chip, and ~90% of low-frequency non-coding variants in ~44 K Europeans via genotype imputation). The variants, genotypes, and association statistics from these analyses provide the largest reference to date of human genetic information relevant to T2D, for use in activities such as T2D-focused genotype imputation, functional characterization of variants or genes, and other novel analyses to detect associations between sequence variation and T2D.

This paper is focused on a comparison between Model-Free control and Active Disturbance Rejection control methods. These two techniques do not require a detailed mathematical description of the system, since they base on the on-line estimation and rejection of the unmodeled elements of the dynamics. Robustness of the closed-loop control system (against external perturbation) and its relation to energy consumption is discussed here. A model of a planar manipulator is used in the conducted case study as an exemplary plant. Conclusions are supported with results obtained with numerical simulations.

In a recent paper the authors proposed a new frequency-domain approach to identify poles in discrete-time linear systems. The discrete rational transfer function is represented in a rational Laguerre-basis, where the basis elements are expressed by powers of the Blaschke-function. This function can be interpreted as a congruence transform on the Poincaré unit disc model of the hyperbolic geometry. The identification of a pole is given as a hyperbolic transform of the limit of a quotient-sequence formed from the Laguerre-Fourier coefficients. This paper extends this approach for using discrete time-domain data directly. © 2012 IEEE.

Usually when modeling a real process the effects of nonlinearities must be taken into account. A road traffic sector is one such process. Considering it from a macroscopic point of view, the sector is modeled both as a nonlinear and as a linearized process. An 110 model is proposed and a RST control algorithm is used to ensure the imposed performances for the closed loop system. The robustness of the system is obtained by determining the modulus margin and based upon it the admissible nonlinearities are analyzed in order to determine the limits between which the system maintains its stability.

This paper overviews recent advances in the field of switched fuzzy systems, switched systems whose subsystems are fuzzy systems, followed by the comparative study for this kind of systems. Starting with the basic ideas of switched fuzzy systems, the comparative study is aimed in introducing the diverse approaches in their model construction, as well as the challenges related with the stability analysis and stabilization of such systems. The last includes the issue of stability analysis and finding conditions for existence of switched fuzzy controllers which will stabilize the nonlinear system. © 2012 IEEE.

The paper presents a collision mitigation method in which the aim is to stabilize the motion of the vehicle after a light impact has occurred. A yaw rate servo control based on the bicycle model is applied for control purposes. The collision is assumed to have been detected by a passive safety system, e.g., airbag sensors. The control system is activated by the monitoring signal. After the collision has occurred the motion of the vehicle and the operation of the control system are illustrated through CarSim simulation examples. Two control solutions are analyzed: in the first case active steering is used while in the second case steering is combined with differential braking. With the knowledge of certain vehicle parameters and the impact force and direction, post impact vehicle states (yaw rate, velocities, roll rate) can be analyzed. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to determine the validity range of the vehicle model in the presence of uncertainties and different kinds of impact forces. Several software packages are used for the design and analysis of the controlled system. The control design is performed by using the Matlab/Simulink software and the verification of the designed controller is performed by using the CarSim software.

Animals use stochastic search strategies to find a potential nest or to localize the food source. Animals do not rely much on the environmental cues or their sensory inputs. Since their cognitive capabilities are rather limited, search strategies are usually simplistic and stochastic. And yet such simple search strategies result in high efficiency in finding potential targets in limited time intervals. Similar problems with perception of the environment and limited computational power and sensory inputs are observed on the mobile robots used in search scenarios. In spite of their limitations, such robotic systems usually perform deterministic search strategies which heavily depend on environmental cues and sensory input. The research question we are addressing in this paper is which stochastic search strategy has the best performance in terms of area coverage and can stochastic search strategies outperform deterministic search strategies.

This paper gives an overview of both specification and implementation details for integration of DTV services into the Android OS, using Java programming language. Since Java programming language is the language of choice for application development in the Android OS, we have proposed and implemented DTV services in this programming language. Java cannot be used to implement the entire DTV services functionality, so the native library has been developed to implement performance critical parts. The proposed Java API offers Java developers a wrapper around the native implementation, which encapsulates all relevant data structures and functions regarding DTV content manipulation. We have demonstrated our proposal on four key elements of DTV services: channel list, EPG, teletext, and subtitles.

This paper presents our proposal for usage of DLNA services on DTV platforms as well as their implementation aspects on an Android based DTV platform. With the constant increase of processing power on embedded systems, integration of additional, more demanding services, such as DLNA, is possible without degradation of performance of the basic DTV functionalities. The focus of this paper is on utilization of DLNA standard for appropriate usage on modern DTV platforms as well as different implementations on an Android based DTV platform.

This paper describes one implementation of adaptive streaming over HTTP for Android based DTV platform. We have proposed a software solution that enables full adaptive streaming over HTTP protocol. The proposition includes two key standards to be implemented: HTTP Live Streaming and MPEG DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP). The focus of this paper is on implementation of modular architecture that enables adaptive streaming using basic adaptation algorithms leaving a simple interface for integration of advanced adaptation algorithms.
