A wheelchair is a specialized form of Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV) designed to help people with disabilities move safely to their desired locations. Unlike conventional PMVs, wheelchairs for people with disabilities are challenging to manually control in environments with heavy traffic. This study focuses on designing and feasibility testing of control systems for PMVs to meet safety and efficiency standards, even in complex environments. First, a control structure model for PMVs is proposed. This is followed by the application of a combination of First In First Out (FIFO) and Dijkstra traffic control methods to determine effective trajectories for PMVs. The proposed control system is then tested on the campus of the University of Transport and Communications. Simulation results show that when comparing the travel time of 10 PMVs, the order execution time for each PMV remains stable (within 10%) for up to 20 PMVs. However, when the number of PMVs increases to 25, 30, 35, and 40 vehicles, the order execution time increases by 35%, 55%, 103%, and 119%, respectively. These results demonstrate that the system can control a large number of PMVs, ensuring safety, flexibility, and efficiency. © 2024 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. An optimization based method is proposed in this paper for the computation of Lyapunov functions and regions of attractions for nonlinear systems containing polynomial and rational terms. The Lyapunov function is given in a special quadratic form, and the negativity of its derivative is ensured using appropriate LMI conditions. The conservatism of the solution is reduced by utilizing Finsler's lemma. The number of monomial and rational terms in the computational problem is kept as low as possible using linear fractional transformation (LFT) and automatic model simplification steps. The operation of the method is illustrated on two examples taken from the literature.

Inductance is a basic electrical element that couples magnetic flux and current. In many applications the linear approximation of inductance provides sufficiently good results of analysis. In the presence of an additional DC bias magnetic field H_(DC), the observed B-H curve is forced to be moved from its unbiased state and an asymmetric nonlinearity of the targeted inductance is produced. Diagnostic method is proposed, which couples voltage harmonic phases and the direction of H_(DC) bias field by means of the LT Spice simulation. An experimental verification of the proposed technique is successfully accomplished, along with the settlement of the further research.

The procedure of harmonic insertion is generalized in this paper. Analytical expressions of the voltage spectra are derived. The insertion of the 3rd harmonic to the modulating signal, which is of particular interest, is considered as a special case. It is demonstrated in this case that the fundamental harmonic component of the phase and the line‐to‐line voltage is not affected by the insertion of the 3rd harmonic for sufficiently high values of the chopping ratio. However it has been shown that the higher harmonic spectrum is significantly improved as compared to the case of pure sinusoidal modulation. For different values of the fundamental component the optimal values of the amplitude of the third harmonic to be inserted have been calculated so that the distortion factor of the higher harmonic spectrum is minimized. Other cases of harmonic insertion are also considered which provide spectrum efficiency improvement. Experimental results are given which have been obtained by means of a microcomputer controlled PWM generator constructed for this purpose. Copyright © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Currently, around the world, various neurocomputer interfaces (NCI) are being actively developed for controlling prostheses, exoskeletons, robots, for interacting with virtual reality, for rehabilitation medicine, and even for professional sports. Development and research in the field of rehabilitation medicine will help partially and fully restore the functional capabilities of people with amputation or congenital defects of the limbs. Thus, the purpose of this work is to review the methods of recording the control signals of bionic devices based on the analysis of physiological and nervous processes in humans and modeling of a project for developing a neurocomputer interface based on EMG using flexible methods of project management. In this regard, first of all, it is interesting to develop a sensor and controller for further use in systems of robotic prostheses. At the moment, the design of the project using flexible methods of project management has been made and the first prototype with five channels for connecting sensors and a USB interface for communication with a personal computer has been manufactured. DOCTRINAL AUTOMATION IN NAVAL COMBAT systems - THE EXPERIENCE AND THE FUTURE

作者： GERSH, JR The authoris a principal staff engineer at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory where he supervises the AAW Operations Section of the Combat Direction Group. Since joining JHU/APL in 1980 he has been involved in the specification development and testing of advanced surface combat direction systems specializing in the application of rule-based control mechanisms to command and control problems. In 1985-86 he chaired the Doctrine Working Group of the Naval Sea Systems Command's Combat Direction System Engineering Committee. Mr. Gersh served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1977 as a sonar technician and as a junior officer (engineering and gunnery) aboard Atlantic Fleet frigates and as a member of the U.S. Naval Academy's Electrical Engineering faculty. He was educated at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology receiving S. B. S. M. and E. E. degrees in electrical engineering from the latter. He holds certificates as a commercial pilot and flight instructor and is a member of the U.S. Naval Institute the IEEE Computer Society and the American Association for Artificial Intelligence.

For the last four years the most advanced surface combat direction system (CDS) of the U.S. Navy has employed a limited knowledge-based control mechanism. Implemented in the Aegis Weapon System's command and decision element, this capability is called control by doctrine, and is a foundation for the Ticonderoga class cruisers' exceptional performance. control by doctrine allows CIC personnel to direct that certain CDS functions be performed automatically upon tracks with specified characteristics. In effect, these CDS functions, from identification to engagement, can now be controlled through the specification and activation of general system response rules rather than by individual operator actions. The set of active rules, called doctrine statements, forms a system knowledge-base. The Advanced Combat Direction System, Block 1, successor to today's Naval Tactical Data System, will also employ control by doctrine. As part of a larger effort investigating Aegis/ACDS commonality issues, a Doctrine Working Group was chartered to consider, among other things, implications for force-wide interoperability of multiple systems with such rule-based control mechanisms. The working group produced a set of design objectives for doctrine statement standardization across CDSs. Principal features of these objectives are described. The prospect of several such ships operating together in a battle group has raised questions as to the methods by which the actions of ships with those doctrinally-automated systems can best be coordinated. Related questions deal with specific design features for the support of such coordinated action. Work is now being carried out to investigate these questions. Combat system automation through doctrine statements is only one kind of rule-based control. Much work in the area of artificial intelligence deals with the use and maintenance of complex systems of rules, usually in non-real-time problem solving applications. Energy is essential for human existence, and its high consumption is a growing concern in today's technology-driven society. Global initiatives aim to reduce energy consumption and pollution by developing and deploying energy-efficient sensing technologies for long-term monitoring, control, automation, security, and interactions. Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) benefit a lot from the continuous monitoring capabilities of these sensing devices, which include medical sensors worn on or implanted in the human body for healthcare monitoring. Despite significant advancements, achieving energy efficiency in WBANs remains a significant challenge. A deep understanding of the WBAN architecture is essential to identify the causes of its energy inefficiency and develop novel energy-efficient solutions. We investigate energy efficiency issues specific to WBANs. We discuss the transformative impact that artificial intelligence and Machine Learning (ML) can have on achieving the energy efficiency of WBANs. Additionally, we explore the potential of emerging technologies such as quantum computing, nano-technology, biocompatible energy harvesting, and Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) in enabling energy efficiency in WBANs. We focus on WBANs' architecture, hardware, and software components to identify key factors responsible for energy consumption in the WBAN environment. Based on our comprehensive review, we introduce an innovative, energy-efficient three-tier architecture for WBANs that employs ML and edge computing to overcome the limitations inherent in existing energy-efficient solutions. Finally, we summarize the lessons learned and highlight future research directions that will enable the development of energy-efficient solutions for WBANs.

Accurately diagnosing sleep disorders is essential for clinical assessments and treatments. Polysomnography (PSG) has long been used for detection of various sleep disorders. In this research, electrocardiography (ECG) and electromayography (EMG) have been used for recognition of breathing and movement-related sleep disorders. Bio-signal processing has been performed by extracting EMG features exploiting entropy and statistical moments, in addition to developing an iterative pulse peak detection algorithm using synchrosqueezed wavelet transform (SSWT) for reliable extraction of heart rate and breathing-related features from ECG. A deep learning framework has been designed to incorporate EMG and ECG features. The framework has been used to classify four groups: healthy subjects, patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), patients with restless leg syndrome (RLS) and patients with both OSA and RLS. The proposed deep learning framework produced a mean accuracy of 72% and weighted F1 score of 0.57 across subjects for our formulated four-class problem. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.
