Background: Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate an association between exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution and increased risk of type 2 diabetes. In view of the high and increasing prevalence of diabetes, we aimed to quantify the burden of type 2 diabetes attributable to PM_2·5 originating from ambient and household air pollution. Methods: We systematically compiled all relevant cohort and case-control studies assessing the effect of exposure to household and ambient fine particulate matter (PM_2·5) air pollution on type 2 diabetes incidence and mortality. We derived an exposure–response curve from the extracted relative risk estimates using the MR-BRT (meta-regression—Bayesian, regularised, trimmed) tool. The estimated curve was linked to ambient and household PM_2·5 exposures from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019, and estimates of the attributable burden (population attributable fractions and rates per 100 000 population of deaths and disability-adjusted life-years) for 204 countries from 1990 to 2019 were calculated. We also assessed the role of changes in exposure, population size, age, and type 2 diabetes incidence in the observed trend in PM_2·5-attributable type 2 diabetes burden. All estimates are presented with 95% uncertainty intervals. Findings: In 2019, approximately a fifth of the global burden of type 2 diabetes was attributable to PM_2·5 exposure, with an estimated 3·78 (95% uncertainty interval 2·68–4·83) deaths per 100 000 population and 167 (117–223) disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) per 100 000 population. Approximately 13·4% (9·49–17·5) of deaths and 13·6% (9·73–17·9) of DALYs due to type 2 diabetes were contributed by ambient PM2·5, and 6·50% (4·22–9·53) of deaths and 5·92% (3·81–8·64) of DALYs by household air pollution. An effective model based on Haar wavelet entropy and genetic algorithm for fruit identification

In order to detect and identify fruit category more efficiently, this study presents a novel method based on Haar wavelet entropy, multilayer perceptron, and standard genetic algorithm. The Haar wavelet entropy extracted features from a given fruit image. The multilayer perceptron received the features and acted as a classifier. Finally, genetic algorithm was used to train the classifier. The experiment was performed over a 10×12-fold cross validation. The overall accuracy was 81.11±4.23%., better than the result of back propagation gradient descent algorithm of 74.17± 4.98%, and the result of simulated annealing of 78.10± 3.57%.

Models of quantum systems on curved space-times lack sufficient experimental verification. Some speculative theories suggest that quantum properties, such as entanglement, may exhibit entirely different behavior to purely classical systems. By measuring this effect or lack thereof, we can test the hypotheses behind several such models. For instance, as predicted by Ralph and coworkers [T C Ralph, G J Milburn, and T Downes, Phys. Rev. A, 79(2):22121, 2009;T C Ralph and J Pienaar, New Journal of Physics, 16(8):85008, 2014], a bipartite entangled system could decohere if each particle traversed through a different gravitational field gradient. We propose to study this effect in a ground to space uplink scenario. We extend the above theoretical predictions of Ralph and coworkers and discuss the scientific consequences of detecting/failing to detect the predicted gravitational decoherence. We present a detailed mission design of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Space QUEST (Space - Quantum Entanglement Space Test) mission, and study the feasibility of the mission scheme. As internationalisation becomes more and more intensive, organizations need to work with information in different languages in their work. Interlingua content delivery in e-learning courses could be effective learning content adaption method for delivering information for much wider audience. This paper suggests high-level framework for multilingual learning content delivery. This approach is based on a domain ontology, which allows to annotate and retrieve learning resources in a language independent way. Such method can improve accessibility, sharing and reuse of multilingual learning content. Copyright © 2014 ACM.

The goal of this paper is to analyze and propose a reconstruction of functional possibilities and database requirements of a Web based Educational Information system. For the research the Information system of the Technology School ＂electronic systems＂（TUES） associated with the Technical University of Sofia is on focus. The modules for admission of students, specialty classification, and graduation of students, management of the student＇s work in computer classrooms and lecturers＇ data management have been analyzed, developed and implemented. The additionally developed modules concern mainly the management of educational process and do not affect the e-learning or the official part modules. That led to the idea that the functionality for managing educational process has to be organized in a separate module defined as module for administrative services of educational process. Such restructuring of the system will bring flexibility in further growth of the system--for example students＇ admission or selection for different purposes.

The paper gives an insight of the work done so far in modelling and implementation of user adapted software systems or adaptive web sites. We introduce a five layer framework which gives to our adaptive web based system flexibility, expressiveness, modularity and interoperability. The work so far has been concentrated in the first four layers of the framework concerning data representation, representation of knowledge as well as development of adaptation algorithm for such systems. Initial experimental results on adaptation show good performance of the algorithm for both per-user based adaptation and adaptation for groups of users. The findings also indicate that the approach is suitable for generic adaptive web-based systems. Copyright. © 2010 ACM.
