This work aims to investigate conditions for normality and non-degeneracy of the maximum principle for general state-constrained optimal control problems in which the state constraints are given by equalities and inequalities. Non-degeneracy is proved under a regularity condition formulated in terms of the limiting normal cone to the feasible control set. The same regularity condition implies normality of the maximum principle if one of the end-points is free.

In our study, we aimed to explore the psychiatric disorders, risk factors, and predictors of self-immolation among individuals admitted to Shahid Motahari Hospital in Tehran from 2019 to 2020. This cross-sectional study examines 64 hospitalized patients who received psychiatric counseling following self-immolation incidents. The rate of self-immolation varies significantly based on specific demographics. It is observed that in our population men had a higher rate of being unmarried (70.96 % vs 15.15 %), lower levels of education (70.96 % vs 63.63 % did not have a university degree), higher level of unemployment (54.83 % vs 30.30 %), younger age average with most men aging 15–24 (29.06 (SD = 9.33)) vs women 35–44 (35.27(SD = 10.27)) and higher prevalence of addiction (67.74 % vs 36.36 %) compared to women. On the other hand, women who attempted self-immolation mainly were married, involved in housekeeping, and tended to exhibit higher rates of depression (63.63 % vs 32.25 %) than men. Furthermore, these self-immolation incidents are often impulsive (64.1 %) and occur shortly (under an hour) after experiencing a stressor (39.1 %). Self-immolation accidents are frequently carried out using gasoline (50 %). Geographically, the majority of self-immolation cases of our study are concentrated in the central region of Iran (76.6 %), followed by the western region (15.6 %) this may be due to the proximity of these regions to our center while patients of other regions were hospitalized in their referral hospitals and were rarely transferred to the capital. To effectively address the issue of self-immolation and reduce its prevalence, it is essential to identify vulnerable populations and explore targeted preventive measures. Based on our findings, future pilot studies could investigate the feasibility of specific interventions, such as crisis hotlines to reduce impulsivity-related acts of self-immolation. The Virtual Reality (VR) experiences are great for an engaging presentation creating wide public awareness of cultural heritage, especially if the experience is built on a web-based technology. One of the still posing challenges is that once an application has been developed, for example for a virtual museum or a virtual tour, it usually remains fixed to an embedded in the application model. Adding new functionalities or interaction paradigms needs additional development and new deployment. In this paper, we propose a framework, which achieves the decoupling of an experience from the used models and interaction paradigms through scene and input templates and configuration files. This allows an easy way for generation of a variety of experiences even by people with no or limited programming skills.

This paper presents an application of the enhanced extended observer design with regard to the problem of robust output regulation of permanent magnet synchronous motors. The control framework is further advanced by means of the internal model so as to cope with disturbances represented by the time-varying load torque. The paper shows simulation of regulating a motor for different cases of torque loads and references and provides an explicit procedure of the recursive calculation of the enhanced extended observer coefficients.

This paper reviews the NTIRE 2023 challenge on efficient single-image super-resolution with a focus on the proposed solutions and results. The aim of this challenge is to devise a network that reduces one or several aspects such as runtime, parameters, FLOPs, activations, memory footprint, and depth of RFDN while at least maintaining the PSNR of 29.00dB on DIV2K validation datasets. The challenge had 272 registered participants, and 35 teams made valid submissions. They gauge the state-of-the-art for efficient single-image super-resolution. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose a solution to the problem of parameter estimation of nonlinearly parameterized regressions—continuous or discrete time—and apply it for system identification and adaptive control. We restrict our attention to parameterizations that can be factorized as the product of two functions, a measurable one and a nonlinear function of the parameters to be estimated. Another feature of the proposed estimator is that parameter convergence is ensured without a persistency of excitation assumption. It is assumed that, after a coordinate change, some of the elements of the transformed function satisfy a monotonicity condition. The proposed estimators are applied to design identifiers and adaptive controllers for nonlinearly parameterized systems, which are traditionally tackled using overparameterization and assuming persistency of excitation.

It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living (AAL) technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred to as the use of innovative and advanced Information and Communication technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness. Background: systems Medicine is a novel approach to medicine, that is, an interdisciplinary field that considers the human body as a system, composed of multiple parts and of complex relationships at multiple levels, and further integrated into an environment. Exploring systems Medicine implies understanding and combining concepts coming from diametral different fields, including medicine, biology, statistics, modeling and simulation, and data science. Such heterogeneity leads to semantic issues, which may slow down implementation and fruitful interaction between these highly diverse fields. Methods: In this review, we collect and explain more than100 terms related to systems Medicine. These include both modeling and data science terms and basic systems medicine terms, along with some synthetic definitions, examples of applications, and lists of relevant references. Background Diarrhoeal diseases claim more than 1 million lives annually and are a leading cause of death in children younger than 5 years. Comprehensive global estimates of the diarrhoeal disease burden for specific age groups of children younger than 5 years are scarce, and the burden in children older than 5 years and in adults is also understudied. We used results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to assess the burden of, and trends in, diarrhoeal diseases overall and attributable to 13 pathogens, as well as the contributions of associated risk factors, in children and adults in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021. Methods We used the Cause of Death Ensemble modelling strategy to analyse vital registration data, verbal autopsy data, mortality surveillance data, and minimally invasive tissue sampling data. We used DisMod-MR (version 2.1), a Bayesian meta-regression tool, to analyse incidence and prevalence data identified via systematic reviews, population-based surveys, and claims and inpatient data. We calculated diarrhoeal disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) as the sum of years of life lost (YLLs) and years lived with disability (YLDs) for each location, year, and age-sex group. For aetiology estimation, we used a counterfactual approach to quantify population-attributable fractions (PAFs). Additionally, we estimated the diarrhoeal disease burden attributable to the independent effects of risk factors using the comparative risk assessment framework. Findings In 2021, diarrhoeal diseases caused an estimated 1.17 million (95% uncertainty interval 0.793-1.62) deaths globally, representing a 60.3% (50.6-69.0) decrease since 1990 (2.93 million [2.31-3.73] deaths). The most pronounced decline was in children younger than 5 years, with a 79.2% (72.4-84.6) decrease in diarrhoeal deaths. One way of working out biometric images is to build skeletons. When constructing a high-quality skeleton, the image should be scanned at 500 dpi, and 256 brightness gradations should be considered. During developing the algorithm, it's necessary to consider the expense of random-Access memory and the processing time of the algorithm. Comparison of the Hilditch algorithm and wave oscillation for finger biometrics has been performed. Recommendations for application of the Hilditch algorithm for the application of fingerprint skeletonization are given, since its execution time is less. © 2019 IEEE.
