Combinatorial interaction testing is an important software testing technique that has seen lots of recent interest. It can reduce the number of test cases needed by considering interactions between combinations of input parameters. Empirical evidence shows that it effectively detects faults, in particular, for highly configurable software systems. In real-world software testing, the input variables may vary in how strongly they interact;variable strength combinatorial interaction testing (VS-CIT) can exploit this for higher effectiveness. The generation of variable strength test suites is a non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP) hard computational problem [1]. Research has shown that stochastic population-based algorithms such as particle swarm optimization (PSO) can be efficient compared to alternatives for VS-CIT problems. Nevertheless, they require detailed control for the exploitation and exploration trade-off to avoid premature convergence (i.e. being trapped in local optima) as well as to enhance the solution diversity. Here, we present a new variant of PSO based on Mamdani fuzzy inference system [2, 3, 4], to permit adaptive selection of its global and local search operations. We detail the design of this combined algorithm and evaluate it through experiments on multiple synthetic and benchmark problems. We conclude that fuzzy adaptive selection of global and local search operations is, at least, feasible as it performs only second-best to a discrete variant of PSO, called DPSO. Concerning obtaining the best mean test suite size, the fuzzy adaptation even outperforms DPSO occasionally. We discuss the reasons behind this performance and outline relevant areas of future work. Currently, cloud computing is facing different types of threats whether from inside or outside its environment. This may cause cloud to be crashed or at least unable to provide services to the requests made by clients. In this paper, a new technique is proposed to make sure that the new node which asks to join the cloud is not composing a threat on the cloud environment. Our new technique checks the node before it will be guaranteed to join the cloud whether it runs malwares or software that could be used to launch an attack. In this way the cloud will allow only the clean node to join it, eliminating the risk of some types of threats that could be caused by infected nodes.

Toxic code snippets on stack overflow

Online code clones are code fragments that are copied from software projects or online sources to Stack Overflow as examples. Due to an absence of a checking mechanism after the code has been copied to Stack Overflow, they can become toxic code snippets, e.g., they suffer from being outdated or violating the original software license. We present a study of online code clones on Stack Overflow and their toxicity by incorporating two developer surveys and a large-scale code clone detection. A survey of 201 high-reputation Stack Overflow answerers (33% response rate) showed that 131 participants (65%) have ever been notified of outdated code and 26 of them (20%) rarely or never fix the code. 138 answerers (69%) never check for licensing conflicts between their copied code snippets and Stack Overflow's CC BY-SA 3.0. A survey of 87 Stack Overflow visitors shows that they experienced several issues from Stack Overflow answers: mismatched solutions, outdated solutions, incorrect solutions, and buggy code. 85% of them are not aware of CC BY-SA 3.0 license enforced by Stack Overflow, and 66% never check for license conflicts when reusing code snippets. Our clone detection found online clone pairs between 72,365 Java code snippets on Stack Overflow and 111 open source projects in the curated Qualitas corpus. We analysed 2,289 non-trivial online clone candidates. Our investigation revealed strong evidence that 153 clones have been copied from a Qualitas project to Stack Overflow. We found 100 of them (66%) to be outdated, of which 10 were buggy and harmful for reuse. Furthermore, we found 214 code snippets that could potentially violate the license of their original software and appear 7,112 times in 2,427 GitHub projects. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. With the recent remarkable and fast evolution in telecommunication and computing technologies, great amounts of individuals' tabular-formatted data are collected and used by several organizations in the society. In some cases, some organizations need to share these gathered data to be used in business analysis, decision making or scientific researches purposes, which can involve sensitive information about the individuals. However, these data cannot be published in their original form to other third parties due to the associated privacy concerns. Consequently, preserving individuals' privacy represents a critical issue when sharing the individuals' private data. Hence, Privacy-Preserving Tabular Data Publishing (PPTDP) has received a great attention to protect the privacy of individuals' tabular data, where several approaches have been presented to address this issue. In this paper, we propose an enhanced additive noise approach for privacy-preserving microdata with Single Sensitive Attribute (SSA) publishing. The proposed approach maintains better published data utility to allow more accurate mining and analytical results, where more robust privacy protection against privacy attacks is provided. © 2017 IEEE.

Medicinal cupping is a traditional therapy which used by applying a cup on acu-points or cupping points and the pressure inside the cup is reduced so that the skin and superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. Since all diseases and pains have their specific area to be cupped, most cupping practitioners usually recognize the cupping points based upon the disease and the patient's complaints. Hence, they will randomly choose the points upon request due to the money constraint. However, there is no mathematical approach on guaranteeing the handy method is optimized. Thus, in this paper, a graph model is proposed on finding the optimal number of cupping points for asthma disease via graph colouring approach. This mathematical model will further benefit to the biomathematics and medical fields, especially to the industrial cupping practitioners.

This paper presents a new asymmetrical single-phase multilevel inverter topology capable of producing nine-level output voltage with reduce device counts. In order to obtain the desired output voltage, dc sources are connected in all the combination of addition and subtraction through different switches. Proposed topology results in reduction of dc source, switch counts, losses, cost and size of the inverter. Comparison between the existing topologies shows that the proposed topology yields less component counts. Proposed topology is modeled and simulated using Matlab-Simulink software in order to verify the performance and feasibility of the circuit. A low frequency switching strategy is also proposed in this work. The results show that the proposed topology is capable to produce a nine-level output voltage with less number of component counts and acceptable harmonic distortion content. © 2017 IEEE.

Wearable technology had set to play a major role in solving various problems in medical or sports applications in sports training, ergonomics, and mostly physical therapy. Surface electromyography (sEMG) has been used for localised muscle fatigue research area, although the success of sEMG based techniques is currently limited to isometric contraction and is not acceptable to the human movement community. This work propose the use of sEMG based sensor to measure the muscle activity during dynamic contractions. In this study, the use of a low cost commercial available sensor called MYO armband was implemented to reveal the viability to utilise this type of sensor to quantify muscle fatigue. The acquired sEMG signals from the muscle were analysed with the use of a set of selected features, RMS and MDF have been used as indicators of fatigue, and then classifying the signal into two classes non-fatigue and fatigue using backpropagation neural networks, allowing the prediction of muscle fatigue. Results show that automating the process of localised muscle fatigue detection is showed with higher accuracy compared with other methods. © 2017 IEEE.

Gamifying the educational systems implies the application of gaming rules in a non-gaming context. This has positively-affected the success and engagement of learners in the learning process. The learning styles work as an important factor for a better definition of the preferred way for a learner to learn, resulting in an adaptable system that understands the educational needs of the learner, with adaptable teaching styles that draw his attraction to continue learning. In this paper, we discuss the state-of-art principles needed for serious gamification, and investigate the main concepts required to create adaptive educational systems. This includes the study of the adaptation types considered for both normal and disabled/disordered learners, as well as building a detailed comparison between the different evaluated educational models, while highlighting the concepts applied and analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. © 2017 IEEE.

Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) have been obtained a significant focusing due to the ability of this technology to dissolve the issues of spectrum overcrowding and underutilization. In a CRNs, the secondary user (SU) is equipped to discover and use abandoned licensed channel, however, they must be desertion the channel if any interference is brought to the primary user (PU) who holds the channels. For that, the dynamic spectrum access (DSA) in CRNs is considered as an important application that allows for SU to use the licensed band in a dynamic way. Nevertheless, there are several challenges on CRNs such as interference, channel selection, routing, and etc. Cross-layer design can provide effective solutions in order to counteract these challenges. To this aim, in this paper, we have studied the existing related work about applying a cross-layer design in CRNs and how the upper layers and the lower layers parameters can optimize with the helping of a cross-layer. Finally, we have explained the implementation challenges of cross-layer design on CRNs. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

Prior to the deep learning era, shape was commonly used to describe the objects. Nowadays, state-of-the-art (SOTA) algorithms in medical imaging are predominantly diverging from computer vision, where voxel grids, meshes, point clouds, and implicit surface models are used. This is seen from numerous shape-related publications in premier vision conferences as well as the growing popularity of ShapeNet (about 51,300 models) and Princeton ModelNet (127,915 models). For the medical domain, we present a large collection of anatomical shapes (e.g., bones, organs, vessels) and 3D models of surgical instrument, called MedShapeNet, created to facilitate the translation of data-driven vision algorithms to medical applications and to adapt SOTA vision algorithms to medical problems. As a unique feature, we directly model the majority of shapes on the imaging data of real patients. As of today, MedShapeNet includes 23 datasets with more than 100,000 shapes that are paired with annotations (ground truth). Our data is freely accessible via a web interface and a Python application programming interface (API) and can be used for discriminative, reconstructive, and variational benchmarks as well as various applications in virtual, augmented, or mixed reality, and 3D printing. Exemplary, we present use cases in the fields of classification of brain tumors, skull reconstructions, multi-class anatomy completion, education, and 3D printing.
