Deng et al. [Deng, S., He, Z., Xu, X.: G-ANMI: A mutual information based genetic clustering algorithm for categorical data, Knowledge-Based systems 23, 144-149(2010)] proposed a mutual information based genetic clustering algorithm named G-ANMI for categorical data. While G-ANMI is superior or comparable to existing algorithms for clustering categorical data in terms of clustering accuracy, it is very time-consuming due to the low efficiency of genetic algorithm (GA). In this paper, we propose a new initialization method for G-ANMI to improve its efficiency. Experimental results show that the new method greatly improves the efficiency of G-ANMI as well as produces higher clustering accuracy. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

There is a demand from simulation users for speed, the ability to obtain quickly results from simulation runs. Cloud computing offers the potential for scalable, on-demand access to resources that can be used to speed up simulation. However, developing cloud computing solutions for industry is difficult without appropriate expertise. This paper introduces the CloudSME project that is dedicated to developing cloud computing solutions for simulation in industry and presents an overview of the CloudSME Simulation Platform that is being used to support an initial set of Cloud-based versions of Simul8's discrete-event simulation environment, Ascomp's TransAT computational fluid dynamics application, Ingecon's 3D Scan Insole Designer tool and 2MORO's Bfly software for aircraft maintenance logistics. The paper presents an overview of cloud computing, the CloudSME project, the architecture of the CloudSME Simulation Platform and its two key elements: gUse and CloudBroker.

Advanced mobility handover for mobile IPV6 based wireless networks

We propose an Advanced Mobility Handover scheme (AMH) in this paper for seamless mobility in MIPv6-based wireless networks. In the proposed scheme, the mobile node utilizes a unique home IPv6 address developed to maintain communication with other corresponding nodes without a care-of-address during the roaming process. The IPv6 address for each MN during the first round of AMH process is uniquely identified by HA using the developed MN-ID field as a global permanent, which is identifying uniquely the IPv6 address of MN. Moreover, a temporary MN-ID is generated by access point each time an MN is associated with a particular AP and temporarily saved in a developed table inside the AP. When employing the AMH scheme, the handover process in the network layer is performed prior to its default time. That is, the mobility handover process in the network layer is tackled by a trigger developed AMH message to the next access point. Thus, a mobile node keeps communicating with the current access point while the network layer handover is executed by the next access point. The mathematical analyses and simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs better as compared with the existing approaches. © 2014 Ali Safa Sadiq et al.

We propose an adaptive handover prediction (AHP) scheme for seamless mobility based wireless networks. That is, the AHP scheme incorporates fuzzy logic with AP prediction process in order to lend cognitive capability to handover decision making. Selection metrics, including received signal strength, mobile node relative direction towards the access points in the vicinity, and access point load, are collected and considered inputs of the fuzzy decision making system in order to select the best preferable AP around WLANs. The obtained handover decision which is based on the calculated quality cost using fuzzy inference system is also based on adaptable coefficients instead of fixed coefficients. In other words, the mean and the standard deviation of the normalized network prediction metrics of fuzzy inference system, which are collected from available WLANs are obtained adaptively. Accordingly, they are applied as statistical information to adjust or adapt the coefficients of membership functions. In addition, we propose an adjustable weight vector concept for input metrics in order to cope with the continuous, unpredictable variation in their membership degrees. Furthermore, handover decisions are performed in each MN independently after knowing RSS, direction toward APs, and AP load. Finally, performance evaluation of the proposed scheme shows its superiority compared with representatives of the prediction approaches. Copyright © 2014 Ali Safa Sadiq et al.

Cloud computing is a platform for expanding capabilities and developing potentialities dynamically without employing new infrastructure, personnel, or software systems. In Addition, cloud computing originated from a commercial enterprise concept, and developed into a flourishing IT invention. However, given that considerable information on individuals and companies are identified in the cloud, concerns have been raised regarding the safety of the cloud environment. Despite the hype surrounding cloud computing, customers remain reluctant to deploy their commercial enterprise into the cloud. Nevertheless, lack of protection is the only major concern that hinders increased use of cloud computing. Furthermore, the complexity with which cloud computing manages data secrecy, and information security makes the market hesitant about cloud computing. The architecture of cloud models threatens the security of existing technologies when deployed in a cloud environment. Thus, users of cloud services should know the dangers of uploading data into this new environment. Therefore, in this paper different cryptography aspects that pose a threat to cloud computing are reviewed. This paper is a survey of specific security issues brought by the use of cryptography in a cloud computing system.

This paper explored the impact of legibility on full high definition (Full-HD) liquid crystal display (LCD) for video display terminal (VDT). A total of 117 participants were tested for legibility of 13 colour combinations based on more than 90- year-old Le Courier Table of Legibility. The participants first completed a survey online, then they were presented to a text designed using Wilkins Rate of Reading Test. The text is seeded with spelling errors in some of the words. The Participants then counted the number of words that have spelling errors, and recorded it to measure the legibility of the colour combinations. The results proved that Le Courier table of legibility is not suitable with the Full-HD LCD.

Given the popularity of mobile devices and the corresponding Android Operating System, many interactive Islamic applications have started to emerge. Concerning the Holy Quran applications, users are often baffled with many choices of implementations. In order to help user makes informed decisions, this paper describes the survey and analysis of existing Android based interactive Holy Quran software applications for mobile devices. In doing so, this paper proposes a set of feature analysis criteria to form the guidelines and requirements for future development of the interactive Holy Quran software applications.

XML is a markup language specifically designed for the Internet, and it has become the standard for represent and exchange the data on the Internet. With the development of the Internet and day by day, large amount of XML documents are being added to the network continuously in various application domains. Thus, it is become necessary to work out how to create a way to store and manage XML data efficiently inside the databases. There are two methods to represent XML in the databases: (1) XML-Enabled databases which designed for structured data (XML is semi-structured data). And (2) Native XML databases or which designed specifically to store any XML document (structured and semi-structured data). The difference between the nature of the database structure and XML data structure became an important research topic, and this led to emergence Native XML database. This paper presents the indexing architecture of eXist, an Open Source native XML database system.

The McCracken et al. working group paper is often cited for the proposition that students can't program. In that study, students from four different institutions were each assigned to implement one of three versions of a calculator. More than half of the students failed to produce a program that compiled and executed in the time assigned. Lost in this discussion, however, is the fact that the original paper had the goal of evaluating its instrument, as well as the students. We examine and adjust their instrument, and present the results of the revised study. With a modified instrument, we have obtained significantly improved results. Copyright © 2013 ACM.
