This paper presents an experimental early breast cancer detection system in terms of heterogeneous breast phantom. The system consists of commercial Ultrawide-Band (UWB) transceivers and our developed Neural Network (NN) based Pattern Recognition (PR) software for imaging. A simple way to construct cancer- tissue and heterogeneous breast phantom using available low cost materials and their mixtures is also proposed here. The materials are: (i) A mixture of petroleum jelly, soy oil, wheat flour and water as heterogeneous tissue;(ii) A particular glass as skin;and (iii) A specific mixture of water and wheat flour as cancer- tissue. All the materials and their mixtures are considered according to the ratio of the dielectric properties of the breast tissues. To experimentally detect cancer, the UWB signals are transmitted from one side of the breast phantom and received from opposite side diagonally. By using discrete cosine transform (DCT) of the received signals, a Neural Network (NN) is trained, tested and interfaced with the UWB transceiver to form the complete system. The achieved detection rate of cancer cell's existence, size and location are approximately 100%, 93.1% and 93.3% respectively. © 2011 IEEE.

The unpredictable fast growing dimension of the World Wide Web and its non-static nature causes considerable obstacles for Web crawlers including the presence of some incorrect and irrelevant answers among search results set and the scaling issues. Hence, solutions that are more promising are in demand to provide more accurate search outcomes. Because implementing existed Web page importance metrics either link based or context based within a parallel crawler can not be an absolute solution for the coverage of authorized fresh Web content and the accuracy concerns, so employing these metrics is not the final approach within search engines' architecture. This paper proposes an analysis on clickstream data in order to discover the popularity of Web pages in crawl frontier through proposing the metric itself and presenting the experimental results on ranking the UTM Web pages based on the proposed discussed metric. © 2011 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence chatbot is a technology that makes interaction between men and machines using natural language possible. From literature of chatbot's keywords/pattern matching techniques, some potential issues for enhancement had been discovered. The discovered issues are in the context of relation between previous and next responses/outputs and also keywords arrangement for matching precedence together with keywords variety for matching flexibility. To encounter these issues, two respective algorithms had been proposed. Those algorithms are Extension and Prerequisite and OMAMC (One-match and All-match Categories). Implemented in SQL-Based chatbot, both algorithms are shown to be enhancing the capability of chatbot's keywords/pattern matching process by providing an augment ways in storing the data and performing the process. This paper will present the significance of results from implementing both proposed algorithms into SQL-Based chatbot that will result on some enhancements in certain area of chatbot's processes. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Synchronous replication is the ideal solution for organizations: search for the fastest possible data recovery, minimal data loss and protection against the problems of database integrity. This ensures that the remote copy of data that is identical to the primary copy is created at the same time the primary copy is updated. However, most of the synchronous replication does not consider the heterogeneous system. In this paper, a software persistence layer for heterogeneous synchronous replication has been designed and developed based on multi-threading known as PLSR. The main objective of this strategy is to make the persistence layer adaptive and make the synchronous replication process reliable and faster than other existing replication processes concerning cost minimization. In the proposed PLSR replication technique, the replication servers are OS independent and the entire replication process is not inter dependent nevertheless on the main server. Adding a new replication server is easier than other processes. The technique also introduces the modification of replication servers without making impairment to the entire process. The comparative Results with SQL server data replication show the PLSR is more acceptable in terms of transactional insertions and sync time. The result shows that PLSR outstanding performs 88.5 % faster than SQL server for transactional insert. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Recently, fuel price becomes as hot topic and never ending issue especially the demand of fuel is very high. Malaysia Government has stood up in helping citizens by giving certain amount of money per vehicle owner to reduce their burden. However, the solution of reducing the total amount of fuel cost and consumption seems to be more helpful if the citizens can plan their fuel expenditure efficiently without unnecessary spend. Therefore, new software namely Online Fuel Consumption Cost Calculator (OFCCC) has been developed to help user plan and calculates the total amount of fuel cost for a car to travel based on the distance given, driving speed, weight capacity and current market fuel price cost. This software has been developed by using Microsoft Web Expression 2 and SQL Server database system. The result shows that the users can obtain a minimum cost towards the desired destination by using OFCCC. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

The availability of high quality and inexpensive video camera, as well as the increasing need for automated video analysis is leading towards a great deal of interest in numerous applications. However the video tracking systems is still having many open problems. Thus, some of research activities in a video tracking system are still being explored. Generally, most of the researchers are used a static camera in order to track an object motion. However, the use of a static camera system for detecting and tracking the motion of an object is only capable for capturing a limited view. Therefore, to overcome the above mentioned problem in a large view space, researcher may use several cameras to capture images. Thus, the cost will increases with the number of cameras. To overcome the cost increment a mobile camera is employed with the ability to track the wide field of view in an environment. Conversely, mobile camera technologies for tracking applications have faced several problems;simultaneous motion (when an object and camera are concurrently movable), distinguishing objects in occlusion, and dynamic changes in the background during data capture. In this study we propose a new method of Global best Local Neighborhood Oriented Particle Swarm Optimization (GbLN-PSO) to address these problems. The advantages of tracking using GbLN-PSO are demonstrated in experiments for intelligent human and vehicle tracking systems in comparison to a conventional method. The comparative study of the method is provided to evaluate its capabilities at the end of this paper. © 2011 IEEE.

As modern software systems operate in a highly dynamic context, they have to adapt their behaviour in response to changes in their operational environment or/and requirements. Triggering adaptation depends on detecting quality of service (QoS) violations by comparing observed QoS values to predefined thresholds. These threshold-based adaptation approaches result in late adaptations as they wait until violations have occurred. This may lead to undesired consequences such as late response to critical events. In this paper we introduce a statistical approach CREQA - Control Charts for the Runtime Evaluation of QoS Attributes. This approach estimates at runtime capability of a system, and then it monitors and provides early detection of any changes in QoS values allowing timely intervention in order to prevent undesired consequences. We validated our approach using a series of experiments and response time datasets from real world web services. © 2011 IEEE.

Concurrent adoption of software engineering process improvement frameworks have been widely practiced by the software organizations. The software development organizations leverage these frameworks to better address process improvement challenges. This paper develops an integrated framework for software engineering process improvement practices and unifies the theories in process definition and establishment. The unified framework provides a set of formal descriptions for software engineering process improvement frameworks. Requirements and architectures for software engineering process improvement frameworks are investigated. The main challenge in the integration is the interoperability of the frameworks. Inaccurate integration approach results in inefficiency of the integration process. Common interoperability issues in the integration of current process models and methodologies are addressed. In addition to this, omissions, differences and gaps can be identified and further examined for development of new unified framework. Taxonomy for software engineering process framework is used to support the understanding and comparison of diverse software quality frameworks. The taxonomy should be based on discipline-specific framework. Besides, other alternative approaches for comparing the software engineering process improvement framework are presented. The research outcome is expected to identify the structural relationships among the frameworks. Derivation from the taxonomy includes characteristics and categories of attributes tailored to the discipline-specific framework. © 2011 IEEE.

software project success depends on various reasons including project control, software standards and procedures. software development organizations realize the importance of using best practices to improve software development practices. An increasing number of literature have described about process improvement best practices and standards. Formal process improvement frameworks have emerged widely to promote the use of systematic processes for software engineering. These approaches identify best practices for managing software engineering quality. They provide methods for assessing an organization's process maturity level and capability. In this article, recent process improvement best practices and standards are presented. Its objective is to analyze the existing approaches towards software process improvement initiatives. Another objective is to determine the issues related to adoption of process improvement and standards. The research outcome is to obtain the significant process improvement issues and formulate a classification of generic steps for process improvements. © 2011 IEEE.

In this research, we focus on software namely Building Submission Checklist System (BuSCLIS) that has been developed to be use in construction industry. An objective of developing BuSCLI is to simplify the management of submission data of building plan approval through online system for the Local Authority (LA) or State Town and Country Planning in Malaysia. We presents the data management of the system through the data dictionary include login, user, contractor, consultant, checklist, location and project. BuSCLI facilitates user by computerized the forms and provide fast, efficient, transparent, effective service to the engineer, architect and contractor. Relevant and timely information managed by sophisticated BuSCLI with the database management system, MySQL. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
