This paper presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of four machine learning algorithms (SVM, DT, FNN, RF) for fault detection and localization in photovoltaic (PV) systems. The study aims to address the limitations of traditional methods, such as manual inspections and rule-based approaches, which can be time-consuming, error-prone, and inflexible. By leveraging advanced machine learning techniques, we aim to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of fault detection and localization in PV systems. We conducted a rigorous evaluation of these algorithms using a unified dataset and performance metrics, focusing on common faults like shading, open circuit, and short circuit. Our findings demonstrate the superior performance of Random Forest (RF) for both fault classification and localization tasks, highlighting its potential for enhancing the reliability and efficiency of PV systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Editing signals using large pre-trained models, in a zero-shot manner, has recently seen rapid advancements in the image domain. However, this wave has yet to reach the audio domain. In this paper, we explore two zero-shot editing techniques for audio signals, which use DDPM inversion with pre-trained diffusion models. The first, which we coin ZEro-shot Text-based Audio (ZETA) editing, is adopted from the image domain. The second, named ZEro-shot UnSupervized (ZEUS) editing, is a novel approach for discovering semantically meaningful editing directions without supervision. When applied to music signals, this method exposes a range of musically interesting modifications, from controlling the participation of specific instruments to improvisations on the melody. Lack of awareness and experience in CPR often discourages individuals from initiating rescue actions of Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). This research presents a new approach to CPR training using embedded system-based devices. This system, which resembles the human body's torso and head sections, monitors and calculates key parameters critical to successful CPR, including compression, airway management, and breathing techniques. Sensor nodes are placed to measure pressure during compression and monitor airway and respiratory processes. The collected data is transmitted and processed using Internet of Things (IoT) technology with a multi-user Android application, facilitating collaborative training sessions. Experimental testing validated the system's functional capabilities with successful network connection, real-time data transmission, and effective execution of CPR procedures. Hardware implementations use microcontrollers and sensors, with Arduino and NodeMcu ESP8266 enabling data processing and transmission. Software components developed within the Arduino IDE and Android Studio ensure efficient data handling and visualization. The results highlight the system's effectiveness in improving the accessibility and affordability of CPR training, potentially improving intervention by witnesses, and improving OHCA survival rates. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) has emerged as a key enabler for secure and decentralized model training while preserving user data privacy. Nonetheless, FL is vulnerable to poisoning attacks;in which a malicious participant tries to corrupt the global model by sending manipulated updates. One common attack is label-flipping, where attackers intentionally mess up labels for training data on their end. Current defenses against these threats treat scenarios where a single adversarial group is cooperating in coordination. This misses the modern real-world scenario in which different adversarial groups have differing, conflicting objectives and act independently. This paper introduces FL-ProtectX, a defense mechanism designed to combat label-flipping attacks targeting heterogeneous multi-adversary environments. Our model also detects the adversary (one that pursues a set of attack goals) behind and can differentiate from other adversaries using their unique target attacks. FL-ProtectX: by utilizing last-layer gradient analysis and cosine similarity computation along with PCA for compression, provides accurate separation and ensures that malicious participants are detected. To facilitate global model aggregation, our method adaptively adjusts trust factors according to the calculated angular similarities between updates. We evaluate the effectiveness of FL-ProtectX on defending against adversary groups by experimentally studying label-flipping attacks on the CIFAR10 dataset and show that for most situations, it effectively neutralizes these attacks, reducing attack success rate from 17.12 to 11.03 while maintaining high accuracy in non-attack-related classes in multi-agent configurations. © 2024 IEEE.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is fundamentally changing the ways of working and blurring the boundaries between human and machine-generated contents. While there is an increasing interest in the adoption of GAI systems, such as ChatGPT and DALL-E, there are also serious concerns about the copyright of the contents - the inputs or generated as outputs by the GAI systems. Such concerns need to be identified and assessed to ensure the ethical and responsible use of GAI systems. Thus, this article aims to address the key research challenge: "how to identify and assess GAI system's copyright concerns"? In response, we propose the development of a Copyright Risk Checker (CRC) Tool. This tool has been formulated and evaluated using a recognised design science research methodology, drawing on an analysis of 10 legal cases across Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Europe. The CRC Tool has undergone evaluation through an experimental scenario, and the results suggest that it is suitable for conducting an indicative copyright risk check of GAI systems. The outcomes of this preliminary assessment can be further examined by expert legal advisors for an in-depth analysis. The development of the CRC Tool provides a foundation for continued research and advancement in this significant area of study. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Random packed beds are often employed in chemical reactors as a means to increase the contact surface between reactants or a catalyst. The present work proposes a helical flow deflector placed within the bed and numerical simulations are performed to analyse the influence of the deflector on the tortuosity of the flow paths in the reactor and the pressure drop. The geometry of the packed bed is obtained in a separate numerical simulation with sequential deposition of ring-like equilateral particles. The flow equations are solved on a structured grid and the immersed boundary method accounts for the complex geometry of the random packing and the cylindrical walls of the reactor. The increase of the tortuosity leads to increase of the pressure drop along the reactor and the relation between them is studied as a function of the rise per revolution of the helical surface. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper investigates the application of machine learning techniques for fault localization in photovoltaic (PV) systems. The research focuses on accurately identifying the location of faults within series-parallel connected PV panels. The same four machine learning algorithms (SVM, DT, FNN, RF) used in the previous study were employed for fault localization, using the same dataset. The performance of each algorithm was evaluated based on its ability to correctly pinpoint the faulty panel or module. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and comparative study of two implant antennas utilizing graphene material for fat-intrabody communication (fat-IBC) in the 5.8 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band. Both antennas use pure graphene and silver-enhanced graphene as radiating elements, fabricated on a Taconic TLY-3 substrate. Copper-conducting elements were used as the substitute conductive material in CST Microwave Studio simulation for the optimized designs. These antennas were then measured in a fat-tissue-equivalent phantom model, and the S11reflection coefficients were recorded. These results show that the silver-enhanced graphene antenna has better performance in conductivity and resonance sharpness compared with the pure graphene antenna, which can be applied for the fat-IBC system. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents measurements of the reflection and transmission coefficient of electromagnetic waves through concrete and two concrete-based composites: concrete with steel fibers and concrete with carbon fibers with the aim of enhancing the attenuation of electromagnetic waves passing through concrete and concrete composites. The frequency range for which the measurements were carried out extends from 30 MHz to 18 GHz and includes most of the existing stationary (and mobile) radiation EM sources in the environment in which the general population moves (FM, DVBT2, 2G - 5G mobile radio systems, stationary radar border area control systems). The measurement results show that as the thickness of the concrete increases, the transmission through concrete and concrete composites decreases (parameter S12 decreases). Furthermore, composites with carbon fibers partially reduce, while those with steel fibers significantly reduce, the transmission of EM waves through such composites. The reduction of parameter S12 by composites with steel is up to 52 dB (at a frequency of 2.9 GHz) for a block thickness of 100 mm. It is important to emphasize that in the case of composites with steel fibers, the influence of the fibers on the transmission parameters is more significant than the thickness of the sample. The reason for this is the increase in electrical conductivity of composites with steel fibers due to the increased proportion of conductive components in the concrete. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Multi-organ segmentation from abdominal images is an important task. Due to the imbalance between different organ and the differences in size, shape, and contrast of different organs, it is a challenging problem in the field of medical image analysis. A powerful feature extraction model is the key to solving this challenge. TransUNet is a popular solution. MultiLayer Perceptron (MLP) is its important part. However, the existing MLP modules only operate on a single feature dimension without interaction across different dimensions. This paper proposes an improved MLP module with multidimensional interaction, named SMLP-Mixer."The SMLP-Mixer achieves multidimensional information interaction while possessing lower computational complexity and fewer parameters in the feature dimension, which can reduce the risk of overfitting. Experiments on the Synapse dataset demonstrate its effectiveness. Compared to TransUNet, the Dice coefficient exhibits a 1.98% improvement, and the HD95 (mm) shows a significant enhancement of 10.83. © 2024 SPIE.
