Medical data are subject to privacy regulations, which severely limit AI specialists who wish to construct decision support systems for medicine. Large amounts of this data are tabular, indicating that they are organized into a table format, where patient records are represented in rows and measured variables in columns. Furthermore, the variables come in different types-some are numerical, while others are categorical. In this work, we introduce a novel method for constructing generators of synthetic tabular data with mixed types. The key point of our approach is the explicit utilization of a latent space to represent the original data. A case study using real medical data is presented. © 2024 The Authors.

Background: With the development of technology, the data amount has increased signif-icantly. In data processing, the multi table query is the most frequent operation. Because the join keys cannot correspond one by one, there will be much redundant data transmission, resulting in a waste of network bandwidth. Objective: In order to solve the problems of network overhead and low efficiency, this paper pro-poses a heuristic multi table join optimization method. By sharing information, the unconnected tu-ples are eliminated so as to reduce the amount of data transmitting. This shortens response time and improves execution performance. Methods: Firstly, the join key information of one table is compressed by the algorithm to make the filtered information for sharing. Then, the concurrent execution is controlled according to the pancake parallel strategy. Finally, the selection strategy of multi table join order is proposed. Results/Discussion: The experiments show that the proposed algorithm can filter a large amount of useless data and improve query efficiency. At the same time, the proposed algorithm reduces a lot of network overhead, improves the algorithm performance, and better solves the problem of low efficiency of multi table join. Conclusion: This paper introduces the heuristic strategy to optimize the algorithm, so that it can perform the join tasks in parallel, which further improves the performance of multi table join. The algorithm creatively combines heuristic data filtering, which greatly improves the quality of data processing. The algorithm is worth popularizing and applying. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

In recent years, the use of mobile internet has become widespread rapidly with the introduction of smartphones. The increasing weight of mobile network traffic in the overall network traffic has made mobile network traffic classification a new and important topic of study. The study utilizes MIRAGE-COVID-CCMA-2022 dataset for the classification of mobile application network traffic. The MIRAGE-COVID-CCMA-2022 dataset contains the network traffic of nine communication and collaboration mobile applications including Discord, GotoMeeting, Meet, Messenger, Skype, Slack, Teams, Webex, and Zoom. Experiments were conducted using four machine learning classifiers (Support Vector Machine, k-Nearest Neighbor, Adaptive Boosting, and Random Forest), four deep learning classifiers (Convolutional Neural Networks, Long Short-Term Memory, Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory, and Gated Recurrent Units), and three feature selection methods (Minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance, k-Nearest Neighbor, and Random Forest). The results of the study show that an overall accuracy of over 95% for the MIRAGE-COVID-CCMA-2022 dataset with a nine-class classification. The study concludes that the most appropriate classification structure is to select the features using the Minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance method and classify the features with the Random Forest classifier. Also, this classification structure stands out as one of the classification structures with the fastest running time. © 2024 IEEE.

This study classifies the actions of football players using sensing data acquired from wearable sensors attached to players and the ball. More than 800 sensing data with the labels of five types of player actions were created as a dataset. The neural networks were trained using 19 input items created by considering time-series variations in player and ball locations. The trained neural network model demonstrated a classification accuracy of 84.0%. The model successfully obtained sufficient accuracy for all types of *** results demonstrate that the sensing data and created input items can be effectively utilized for classifying the actions of football player. © 2024 IEEE.

Paper and board for printing commonly contains optical brightening agents that fluoresce in the presence of UV radiation, making the prints appear brighter and bluer. If the relative amount of optical brightening agents (OBAs) is not consistent between proof and print, and the UV content of measurement and the viewing illumination differs, there will be a colorimetric difference between proof and print. Colour management workflows are normally media-relative, and visual adaptation to the media white can conflict with the goals of colorimetric matching. The impact of UV content in measurement and viewing illumination on the visual acceptability of colour reproductions was investigated in a series of psychophysical experiments, using substrates with varying OBA concentrations and a media-relative colour reproduction workflow. The results showed that visual acceptability was largely unaffected by UV content of measurement or viewing illumination, suggesting that visual adaptation to media white discounts the effect of fluorescence. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

This paper proposes an innovative decision support system based on sentiment analysis, specifically designed for the transportation sector. By integrating the BERT model, known for its advanced natural language processing capabilities, our system provides an in-depth and reliable analysis of customer sentiments. This paper presents the design and simulation of a plasmonic refractive index (RI) sensor and a temperature sensor. The suggested design comprises a MIM waveguide integrated with a grill-shaped rectangular cavity. Simulations were performed for two configurations: one with a solitary cavity and another with two cavities. The RI sensitivity was determined to be 1681.42 nm/RIU. In addition, temperature sensitivity was evaluated by employing two dielectric materials, namely ethanol and polydimethylsiloxane, which exhibited temperature sensitivities of 0.475 nm/°C and 0.67 nm/°C, respectively. The plasmonic sensor being suggested exhibits promising capabilities for utilization in nanosensing and industrial environments. © 2024 IEEE.

The granular-ball rough set (GBRS) is an effective rough set in recent years that unifies the classical rough set and the neighborhood rough set. However, it does not take into account the correlation between conditional attributes and decision attribute. To fill such a gap, we consider the weight of conditional attributes, the weight of a conditional attribute reflects its contribution to the decision attribute. By assigning appropriate weights, the relationship between each conditional attribute and decision attribute can be accurately evaluated, thereby improving the predictive accuracy and applicability of the model. To further reduce the dimensionality of the data, a greedy searching algorithm based on weighted granular-ball rough set (WGBRS) is designed to select a subset of conditional attributes with both strong correlation and high dependency. Finally, ten datasets from the UCI machine learning repository are used to compare the performance of the attribute reduction algorithm based on WGBRS with the other three popular attribute reduction algorithms. Experimental results show that WGBRS has high classification accuracy and favorable attribute reduction effects. © 2024 IEEE.

Diabetes is a prevalent and chronic disease affecting millions worldwide, posing significant challenges in its management and treatment. This review article aims to explore the current and potential future roles of machine learning (ML) in diabetes management, focusing on progress, applications, and challenges. It discusses various ML techniques, including support vector machines (SVM), logistic regression, decision trees, ensemble methods, and advanced deep learning approaches such as long short-term memory (LSTM) networks and convolutional neural networks (CNN). These methods have demonstrated benefits in analytics, patient monitoring, decision support systems, personalised treatment, and patient engagement. However, significant challenges persist, such as computational complexity, data quality, limited interoperability of systems, and ethical concerns regarding AI use in healthcare. The article addresses these challenges by fostering collaboration between AI implementers and health care professionals. This collaboration is essential to develop long-term, legally compliant, and solution-oriented frameworks that enhance patient care and diabetes management and pave the way for more efficient and ethical AI applications in healthcare. © 2025 IEEE.
