Electromagnetic compatibility tests of a measuring system based on MFC piezoelectric transducers

This paper discusses the issue of dependability of a measuring system from the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) point of view. During the tests, the equipment for conducting electromagnetic compatibility tests was used. The tests were carried out in accordance with the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and the harmonized standard IEC 61000-4-6. The measuring system equipped with non-classical piezoelectric transducers called MFC was considered. The MFC transducer was used as a sensor connected to the NI 9191 CompactDAQ Chassis. During the research, the influence of conducted disturbances on the transmission wire was examined. One of the elements of the test bench was an EM-clamp (providing both inductive and capacitive coupling) consisting of a tube of split ferrite rings of two different grades, which can be clamped over the cable under test in a non-invasive way.

Detection of liquid mixture of different volume ratio is very important in industrial purposes. The paper reports a sensing mechanism of binary liquid mixture for different volume fraction, based on the measurement of refractive index of the mixture. Here, a highly sensitive liquid filled core Photonic Crystal Fiber structure has been proposed to detect liquid mixture solution. Numerical investigation of the proposed structure is carried out by employing full vectorial Finite Element Method (FEM).

Epistasis-tunable fitness landscapes are useful to evaluate the performance of a genetic algorithm (GA). Such landscapes have generally been produced within the framework of Walsh polynomials or general parametric interaction models. This paper attempts a novel way by constructing test functions with sinusoidal basis functions. It is remarked that, for a GA with a binary encoding, a linearly separable fitness function, i.e., a zero-epistasis fitness function, can be expressed as the sum of periodical basis functions whose frequencies are exponential to 2, and the sinusoidal bases with such frequencies are much more suitable than those with other integral frequencies to construct epistasis-tunable test functions. A kind of test functions are accordingly produced, the merits of which are: both the locations and values of their global maxima are trivially known; and their degrees of epistasis are smoothly tunable simply by changing the locations of the global maxima.

To improve the accuracy of clothing segmentation, a novel co-segmentation method is proposed in this paper based on HOG(Histogram of Oriented Gradients) features and E-SVM(Exemplar Support Vector Machine) classifier. The cosegmentation method uses an auxiliary dataset and is implemented with three steps: superpixel grouping, E-SVM classifier training, and segmentation propagation. Firstly, image input by user is segmented in superpixel, such that the images in auxiliary dataset can be divided into multi-regions. Secondly, some regions are selected to a positive segmentation and HOG information is used to train E-SVM classifiers. Finally, the cloth is segmented into user image with E-SVM classifiers and segmentation propagation. Experimental results show that the proposed method can segment clothing images with high accuracy. © 2016 IEEE.

A large number of infeasible solutions often occur in population of evolutionary Computation (EC) solving the constraint combinatorial optimization problems. The greater the number of infeasible solutions in the population, the worse the performance of ECto search the solution, in the worst case, the algorithm ceases to run. The existing methods, penalty function or multi-objective optimization, can relieve partly the worst case of EC to run. However, they are actually to restrain the infeasible solutions surviving in population, the performance of the EC is not improved. In this study we propose an approach using an important feature of the infeasible solutions in Genetic Algorithms (GA). The approach can not only solve the problem of algorithm ceases to run, but also improve effectively the performance of genetic algorithms searching the optimal solution. From examination of the proposed method on multidimensional knapsack problems, the application of method is effective to solve the problem of algorithm ceases to run as well as to improve clearly the performance of GA.

The KM3NeT observatory detected the most energetic neutrino candidate ever observed, with an energy between 72 PeV and 2.6 EeV at the 90 % confidence level. The observed neutrino is likely of cosmic origin. In this article, it is investigated if the neutrino could have been produced within the Milky Way. Considering the low fluxes of the Galactic diffuse emission at these energies, the lack of a nearby potential Galactic particle accelerator in the direction of the event and the difficulty to accelerate particles to such high energies in Galactic systems, we conclude that if the event is indeed cosmic, it is most likely of extragalactic origin. On February 13th, 2023, the KM3NeT/ARCA telescope detected a neutrino candidate with an estimated energy in the hundreds of PeVs. In this article, the observation of this ultra-high-energy neutrino is discussed in light of null observations above tens of PeV from the IceCube and Pierre Auger observatories. Performing a joint fit of all experiments under the assumption of an isotropic E−2 flux, the best-fit single-flavour flux normalisation is E2Φ1fν+ν¯ = 7.5 × 10−10 GeVcm−2s−1sr−1 in the 90% energy range of the KM3NeT event. Furthermore, the ultra-high-energy data are then fit together with the IceCube measurements at lower energies, either with a single power law or with a broken power law, allowing for the presence of a new component in the spectrum. The joint fit including non-observations by other experiments in the ultra-high-energy region shows a slight preference for a break in the PeV regime if the "High-Energy Starting Events" sample is included, and no such preference for the other two IceCube samples investigated. A stronger preference for a break appears if only the KM3NeT data is considered in the ultra-high-energy region, though the flux resulting from such a fit would be inconsistent with null observations from IceCube and Pierre Auger. In all cases, the observed tension between KM3NeT and other datasets is of the order of 2.5σ − 3σ, and increased statistics are required to resolve this apparent tension and better characterise the neutrino landscape at ultra-high energies. The KM3NeT Collaboration has tackled a common challenge faced by the astroparticle physics community, namely adapting the experiment-specific simulation software to work with the CORSIKA air shower simulation output. The proposed solution is an extension of the open source code gSeaGen, which allows the transport of muons generated by CORSIKA to a detector of any size at an arbitrary depth. The gSeaGen code was not only extended in terms of functionality but also underwent a thorough redesign of the muon propagation routine, resulting in a more accurate and efficient simulation. This paper presents the capabilities of the new gSeaGen code as well as prospects for further developments. The challenges in this work included interfacing the CORSIKA binary output, efficient handling of already generated events to reduce the overall computational cost, and preserving all the additional available information, which can be invaluable in physics analyses. Solution method: The readout of CORSIKA simulation was adapted from the base script provided together with CORSIKA and implemented as a standalone flux driver in gSeaGen. The propagation routine has been redesigned to support the geometry of extensive air shower simulations and to improve its efficiency in propagating particles to the detector. The traditional mask method and background fitting method can not correct effectively the solar image with uneven illumination. We adopt a correct method based on Retinex for the solar image with uneven illumination. The quality of image is improved by compressing the range of brightness and increasing the contrast by separately processing the effect of illumination and reflectivity to the intensity value. It could reveal the detailed character of the shadow area of the image. By contrasting four evaluate indexes, including the mean intensity, the image entropy, the image contrast and the peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR), this method is proved to be effective in the solar image with uneven illumination.

KM3NeT/ORCA is a water Cherenkov neutrino detector under construction and anchored at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The detector is designed to study oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos and determine the neutrino mass ordering. This paper focuses on an initial configuration of ORCA, referred to as ORCA6, which comprises six out of the foreseen 115 detection units of photo-sensors. A high-purity neutrino sample was extracted, corresponding to an exposure of 433 kton-years. The sample of 5828 neutrino candidates is analysed following a binned log-likelihood method in the reconstructed energy and cosine of the zenith angle. The atmospheric oscillation parameters are measured to be sin2 θ23 = 0.51+0.04−0.05, and ∆m231 = 2.18+0.25−0.35 ×10−3 eV2 ∪{−2.25,−1.76}×10−3 eV2 at 68% CL.
