This paper presents a genetic algorithm coordinated by fuzzy rule models to solve the vehicle routing problem with time windows. The fuzzy rule-based coordinators play distinct roles during the genetic algorithm execution. The aim is to trade-off exploration and exploitation behavior for route and distance minimization. Experimental results using classic benchmark test instances suggest that the fuzzy coordinated genetic approach is competitive against classic genetic algorithm.

The current paper presents a unified lumped parameter modeling approach for deriving generic analytical system models of reciprocal electromechanical (mechatronic) transducers for various physical working principles (e.g. electrostatic, piezoelectric, electromagnetic, electrodynamic). Starting from constitutive physical relations representing natural laws, the model hierarchy comprises energy based nonlinear EULER-LAGRANGE behavior models, linearized electromechanical two-port models forming constitutive transducer equations and MIMO transfer function models describing the causality based signal flow behavior to be used for control system design and analysis purposes. It is shown that the models describe in a generic way the unified behavior of reciprocal transducers under different operating conditions, e.g. voltage vs. current control. Moreover the models allow in a straightforward way the generic discussion, i.e. independent from the concrete physical working principle, of important transducer operational concepts such as impedance feedback or self-sensing.

The paper proposes to realize a simulator for testing roaming algorithms in wireless networks. The simulator is made as a Windows application, which commands through USB the attenuators. The attenuators are related with the Access Points (APs). Proximity or the distance, of the mobile client (CL) com-pared to AP, is simulated by changing attenuation of the signal path derived from the AP's antenna. The simulator is the result of collaboration with the Embedded Wireless gmbh company, which provided the material for testing and use.

We extend a `surrogate problem' approach that is developed for a class of stochastic discrete optimization problems so as to tackle the global signal settings and traffic assignment combined problem. We compare a stochastic method based on the surrogate approach, called Surrogate Method (SM), with a Projected Gradient Algorithm (PGA), which uses the Armijo rule for the step size estimation routine. Numerical experiments conducted on a test network show that the surrogate method converges to a really small area and it finds much more efficient solutions.
