This article presents a study on determining the optimal reference values for two proportional-integral (PI) type controllers taking also into account the impact on a simulated wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). In this regard, we considered a predictive control algorithm for a distributed model, which includes correlation between subsystems. Additionally, we have taken into consideration the comparative testing of two interpolation methods for the purpose of dynamically generating reference points, applied on Benchmark Simulation Model No.2 (BSM2) with an implemented control strategy. This allowed us to determine the global minimum points and propose a method for aligning the global minimum points obtained for both cost functions.

This article describes the design and implementation of a device for the production of plastic filament for a 3D FDM printer. The introduction of the article is devoted to the current state of 3D printing and materials. Next a device for the production of a plastic filament also called a filament extruder is described. The article also deals with the design of individual parts of the device using CAD software with detailed pictures documentation. Finally the implementation of the software and hardware part of the manufactured device is described. © 2020 IEEE.

In recent years, the transition to the digital world offers users several conveniences, to use, process, store, and transmit their data. In addition, the rapid and continuous evolution of image acquisition systems has allowed a tremendous growth in the use of digital images. Indeed, digitization is a double-edged sword; it offers several benefits on the one hand and poses security problems on the other hand. For this reason, it is mandatory to design digital image protection systems against illegal manipulation. In recent decades, digital tattooing, a brilliant technique proposed to address several aspects of security. The principle of this technique is to implement a digital signal called watermark in another digital signal called host signal (text, image, audio, video…). In this context, our work aims to propose novel digital image watermarking approaches based on wavelets and DCT for the copyright protection of medical images. The proposed methods will allow optimizing the two contradictory demands of watermarking: imperceptibility and robustness.

—Federated Learning Networks (FLNs) have been envisaged as a promising paradigm to collaboratively train models among mobile devices without exposing their local privacy data. Due to the need for frequent model updates and communications, FLNs are vulnerable to various attacks (e.g., eavesdropping attacks, inference attacks, poisoning attacks, and backdoor attacks). Balancing privacy protection with efficient distributed model training is a key challenge for FLNs. Existing countermeasures incur high computation costs and are only designed for specific attacks on FLNs. In this paper, we bridge this gap by proposing the Covert Communication-based Federated Learning (CCFL) approach. Based on the emerging communication security technique of covert communication which hides the existence of wireless communication activities, CCFL can degrade attackers’ capability of extracting useful information from the FLN training protocol, which is a fundamental step for most existing attacks, and thereby holistically enhances the privacy of FLNs. We experimentally evaluate CCFL extensively under real-world settings in which the FL latency is optimized under given security requirements. Numerical results demonstrate the significant effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of both training efficiency and communication security. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Temporal relation extraction (TRE) aims to grasp the evolution of events or actions, and thus shape the workflow of associated tasks, so it holds promise in helping understand task requests initiated by requesters in crowdsourcing systems. However, existing methods still struggle with limited and unevenly distributed annotated data. Therefore, inspired by the abundant global knowledge stored within pre-trained language models (PLMs), we propose a multi-task prompt learning framework for TRE (TemPrompt), incorporating prompt tuning and contrastive learning to tackle these issues. To elicit more effective prompts for PLMs, we introduce a task-oriented prompt construction approach that thoroughly takes the myriad factors of TRE into consideration for automatic prompt generation. In addition, we design temporal event reasoning in the form of masked language modeling as auxiliary tasks to bolster the model’s focus on events and temporal cues. The experimental results demonstrate that TemPrompt outperforms all compared baselines across the majority of metrics under both standard and few-shot settings. A case study on designing and manufacturing printed circuit boards is provided to validate its effectiveness in crowdsourcing scenarios. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

in order to create a digital twin of the spine to simulate the behavior of the spine after various interventions, the task of automating the marking of the vertebral bodies on radiographs was formulated. The presented work describes the developed approaches to solving the problem of marking the vertebral bodies on radiographs, and also describes algorithms for extracting images of the spine and images of individual vertebrae. For the detection of images of each individual vertebra, the YOLOv5 model was used, and an ensemble of regression models was created to solve the problem of marking the image of each individual vertebra. After a series of experiments, marking errors were estimated at 4.6% using the ratio of coordinates obtained using trained models and correctly marked data. Theories were also put forward about the possible improvement of the created software by dividing the vertebrae into two subclasses in order to reduce the markup error to the desired 0.8%.

Imitation Learning (IL), also referred to as Learning from Demonstration (LfD), holds significant promise for capturing expert motor skills through efficient imitation, facilitating adept navigation of complex scenarios. A persistent challenge in IL lies in extending generalization from historical demonstrations, enabling the acquisition of new skills without re-teaching. Dynamical system-based IL (DSIL) emerges as a significant subset of IL methodologies, offering the ability to learn trajectories via movement primitives and policy learning based on experiential abstraction. This paper emphasizes the fusion of theoretical paradigms, integrating control theory principles inherent in dynamical systems into IL. This integration notably enhances robustness, adaptability, and convergence in the face of novel scenarios. This survey aims to present a comprehensive overview of DSIL methods, spanning from classical approaches to recent advanced approaches. We categorize DSIL into autonomous dynamical systems and non-autonomous dynamical systems, surveying traditional IL methods with low-dimensional input and advanced deep IL methods with high-dimensional input. Additionally, we present and analyze three main stability methods for IL: Lyapunov stability, contraction theory, and diffeomorphism mapping. Our exploration also extends to popular policy improvement methods for DSIL, encompassing reinforcement learning, deep reinforcement learning, and evolutionary strategies. The primary objective is to expedite readers' comprehension of dynamical systems' foundational aspects and capabilities, helping identify practical scenarios and charting potential future directions. By offering insights into the strengths and limitations of dynamical system methods, we aim to foster a deeper understanding among readers. Furthermore, we outline potential extensions and enhancements within the realm of dynamical systems, outlining avenues for further exploration. © 2024, CC BY.

Previous methods often utilize CLIP semantic classifiers with class names for zero-shot object counting. However, they ignore crucial density and depth knowledge for counting tasks. Thus, we propose a density-aware and depth-aware prompt counting model, which captures density information via learning density-aware prompts based on density-aware contrastive loss and incorporates depth guidance with predefined depth-aware prompts. To facilitate the training process, we design two strategies for standard counting loss and the contrastive loss, where the former prioritizes larger and sparser objects initially, gradually focusing on smaller and denser objects, and the latter adopts coarse-to-fine density learning. Besides, we construct a dataset named LVIS-372 with more real-world scenarios and balanced instance distribution compared to existing ones. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

When writing a high-performance code for numerical computation in a scripting language like MATLAB, it is crucial to have the operations in a large for-loop vectorized. If not, the code becomes too slow to be of any use, even for a moderately large problem. However, in the process of vectorizing, it often happens that the code loses its original structure and becomes less readable. This is particularly true in the case of a finite element implementation, even though finite element methods are inherently structured. A basic remedy to this is the separation of the vectorization part from the mathematics part in the code, which is easily achieved through building the code on top of the basic linear algebra subprograms that are already vectorized codes, an idea which has been used in a series of papers over the last fifteen years, developing codes that are fast and still structured and readable. We discuss the vectorized basic linear algebra package, and introduce a formalism using multi-linear algebra to explain and define formally the functions in the package, as well as MATLAB’s pagetime functions. We provide examples from computations of varying complexity, including the computation of normal vectors, volumes, and finite element methods. Benchmarking shows that we also get fast computations. Using the library, we can write codes that closely follow our mathematical thinking, making it easier to write, follow, reuse, and extend the code. © 2024, CC BY.
