Systematically changing the size and opacity of points on scatterplots can be used to induce more accurate perceptions of correlation by viewers. Evidence points to the mechanisms behind these effects being similar, so one may expect their combination to be additive regarding their effects on correlation estimation. We present a fully-reproducible study in which we combine techniques for influencing correlation perception to show that in reality, effects of changing point size and opacity interact in a non-additive fashion. We show that there is a great deal of scope for using visual features to change viewers' perceptions of data visualizations. Additionally, we use our results to further interrogate the perceptual mechanisms at play when changing point size and opacity in scatterplots. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s)

This paper deals with the simulation calculation of the transmission (S21) parameter in a biomaterial calculated parametrically on the basis harvest waste (residues) as a function of the density, moisture and temperature of the material. Since this material is essentially wood, empirical and semi-empirical models are used to determine the electromagnetic parameters of the wood material as a function of the density, moisture and temperature of the material according to the available literature. The structural - geometric and environmental parameters of the material that are the subject of the research are: density, moisture and temperature of the material, and the electromagnetic parameters that "describe" them are: relative permittivity Εr, loss tangent tan δ and electrical conductivity σ. The simulation model is based on a system for measuring coupling parameters in free space, which consists of two antennas, between which a 600 × 600 mm sample of the biomaterial is placed, and a network analyzer. With increasing density and moisture significantly increases the relative dielectric constant, the loss tangent and the electrical conductivity of the measured biosamples. The temperature change in a wide temperature range (20 ℃–100 ℃) has no significant influence on the electromagnetic parameters. The way sensitive medical data is created and sent to cloud-based platforms has been completely transformed by the growing use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the healthcare industry. Even with these developments, protecting the privacy and accuracy of medical records is still quite difficult. The diagnosis of diseases using medical data has become increasingly important as medical technology has advanced. It is common for medical data to move via the branches of the network from one end to the other. As a result, a high degree of security is required. Problems arise when the image data is used without authorization. One of the finest methods for securing data in an image is encryption, which uses confusion and diffusion. To address this, our study suggests a novel approach to improve medical data security by incorporating confusion and diffusion method. This feature immediately addresses issues related to unauthorized access by guaranteeing the privacy of medical records both during transmission and storage. Identifying and reducing possible security risks is greatly aided by deep learning algorithms, particularly RNN for stroke and Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (Xception model) for skin cancer photos. Our study broadens its scope to include secure and predictive analytics on medical data in the suggested system. Several metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, confusion metrics, AUC, PSNR, and MSE, are used in this study to assess prediction models. This all-encompassing strategy improves the security of medical data while simultaneously enhancing predictive analytics' potential to improve patient care and results. © 2024 IEEE.

The primary focus of this paper is to evaluate the channel capacity of a Terahertz (THz) communication system using a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technique. By deriving mathematical expressions for channel capacity and considering practical constraints, the paper provides insights into the performance of such systems under various conditions. The channel model used in this work accommodates the channel accuracies and transceivers constraints. To validate the proposed channel capacity, some simulations by taking into account deferent parameters namely SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), MIMO channel Matrix size, and distance between transmitter and receiver are performed. These simulations are carried out for 3 cases which are: (1) Channel State Information CSI is known to both transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx), (2) CSI is known to Rx but unknown to Tx, (3) CSI is unknown to both Tx and Rx. In this study, we introduce a mathematical formulation for a communication channel tailored for Terahertz (THz) applications. Using this channel model, we analyze the capacity of the THz channel. The suggested research has the potential to be applied in the design and enhancement of Terahertz (THz) wireless communication systems, aiding in the advancement of robust and high-capacity wireless networks that can fulfill the requirements of contemporary multimedia applications. © 2024, Electromagnetics Academy. In this communication revolution era, visible light communication (VLC) is the optimum efficacious answer to the increased request for high-speed data transmission with reduced cost, besides the illumination. This technology is considered the best promising candidate for indoor positioning due to its ability to attain higher positioning accuracy than other technologies, alongside its distinct advantages. However, the existing techniques that had been applied in an indoor positioning system (IPS) based on VLC focused on the aspect of accuracy but neglected the aspects of cost and complexity. This paper proposes a new technique for positioning, namely complementary and supplementary angles based on received signal strength (CSA-RSS). The positioning error performance of the system is examined based on the single light-emitting diode (LED) and different positions of the photodiode (PD). The results demonstrate the improved accuracy and prove the effectiveness of the newly proposed technique where the average error is 3.2 cm in 80% of the examined positions and the maximum average positioning error is 4.2 cm. Moreover, the proposed approach has been proven to increase system efficiency which acts as a suitable VLC design for indoor positioning performance, avoiding weak signals and poor accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

Motorcyclist behavior recognition (MBR) is a significant factor in improving road safety and preventing accidents. Inertial sensors, such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers, have shown promising potential for capturing the dynamic behavior of motorcyclists. However, existing approaches often require complex models and significant computational resources, limiting their deployment in real-world scenarios. This study presents a MotoNeXt architecture, which is a light deep residual network for correctly identifying the behavior of motorcyclists using data from inertial sensors. Our approach leverages the power of deep learning while maintaining a compact model size, making it suitable for resource-constrained environments. The proposed network incorporates multi-kernel residual blocks to facilitate the learning of hierarchical features and improve gradient flow during training. We evaluate our method on a publicly available benchmark dataset, MB-IMU, collected from multiple riders under various riding conditions. Experimentation has shown that our lightweight model achieves cutting-edge performance, outperforming a variety of existing techniques. In Scenario I, using accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer data, MotoNeXt achieved an accuracy result of 78.90088% along with an F1-score of 81.56738%. According to Scenario II, which included additional sensor data such as VelInc, OriInc, and Euler angles, MotoNeXt further improved its performance, achieving an accuracy result of 83.29735% along with an F1-score of 84.95352%. The proposed approach offers a practical solution for real-time MBR, enabling the development of intelligent transportation systems and rider assistance technologies. Our experiments highlight the effectiveness of lightweight deep learning models in extracting meaningful patterns from inertial sensor data. This opens up opportunities for further investigation in this field. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents possibilities of maintenance optimization in smart grids to enhance system resilience. First, methods for calculating unavailability of interconnected is introduced. Different modes of operation for individual system components, which may be either restored upon randomly occurring failure, or maintained using preventive actions are considered. Mathematical models for computing time dependent unavailability for both cases are presented. Subsequently, an optimization task is constructed to minimize both the system operations costs and its average unavailability for a selected mission time using multi-objective optimization methods. The entire issue is explained on a simplified model of smart grid based on real critical infrastructure. Presented results prove that efficient implementation of mathematical models of system operations can enable resolution of complex optimization problems in reasonable time. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

The design of a 180° output phase difference Wilkinson power divider for L-band applications is detailed in this article. The Wilkinson power is generated through the utilization of the parallel coupler's phase shifter. To showcase the potential of the suggested power divider, an FR4 microwave substrate is fabricated with a narrow band of 1.6 GHz to accommodate radio astronomy systems. The insertion loss, return loss, and isolation loss for the power divider's difference phase are accurately simulated at the operational frequency. © 2024 IEEE.
