In this paper we propose an architecture integrating a multi-agent system and a centralised solution for intelligent traffic light control, aiming at the overall improvement of the network's performance under the cooperative and the adaptive assumptions. Knowing that most decentralised traffic control solutions do not offer direct guarantees on the overall network's performance, we propose the inclusion of a higher-level agent responsible for the analysis of the entire network performance from a macroscopic perspective. This agent will then communicate with traffic light controlling agents in order to provide them with useful suggestions based on the globally perceived information. We present a case study in order to evaluate the impact of our proposed architecture as an intelligent traffic management solution.

The problem of evacuating crowded closed spaces, such as discotheques, public exhibition pavilions or concert houses, has become increasingly important and gained attention both from practitioners and from public authorities. A simulation implementation using NetLogo, an agent-based simulation framework that permits the quickly creation of prototypes, is presented. Our aim is to prove that this model developed using NetLogo, albeit simple can be expanded and adapted for fire safety experts test various scenarios and validate the outcome of their design. Some preliminary experiments are carried out, whose results are presented, validated and discussed so as to illustrate their efficiency. Finally, we draw some conclusions and point out ways in which this work can be further extended.

Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) has become even more important research area in recent years with the widespread usage of Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications. WSD task has two variants: “Lexical Sample” and “All Words” approaches. Lexical Sample approach disambiguates the occurrences of a small sample of target words that were previously selected, while in the latter all the words in a piece of text are disambiguated. In the scope of this work, a Lexical Sample Dataset for Turkish has been prepared. As a first step, highly ambiguous words in Turkish have been selected. Collection of text samples for chosen words has been completed. Five taggers have annotated the word senses. This paper summarizes the step-by-step building-up process of a Lexical Sample Dataset in Turkish and presents the results of some experiments on it.

There is increasing interest of organization for advanced presentation and data analysis for public users. This paper shows how to integrate data from enterprise data warehouse with spatial data warehouse, publish them together to online interactive map, and enable public users to perform analysis in simple web interface. As case study is used Business Intelligence System for Investors, where data comes from different sources different levels, structured and unstructured. This approach has three phases: creating spatial data warehouse, implementing ETL (extract, transform and load) procedure for data from different sources (spatial and non-spatial) and, finally, designing interface for performing data analysis. The fact, that this is a public site, where users are not known in advanced and not trained, calls for importance of usability design and self-evident interface. Investors are not willing to invest any time in learning the basics of a system. Geographic information providers need geoportals to enable access to spatial data and services via the Internet; and it is a first step in creating Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI).
