An Encoder-Decoder Model Based On Spiking Neural Networks For Address Event Representation Object Recognition

Address event representation (AER) object recognition task has attracted extensive attention in neuromorphic vision processing. The spike-based and event-driven computation inherent in the spiking neural network (SNN) provides an energy-saving solution for AER object recognition. However, SNN with spike timing dependent plasticity (STDP) learning rule has not achieved satisfying AER object recognition performance. This work proposes an SNN-based encoder-decoder model to improve the recognition performance of AER objects. An STDP-based locally connected spiking neural network (LC-SNN) is proposed as an encoder to extract rich spatiotemporal features from AER event flows more flexibly. After the encoder extracts and learns primary features, we propose a fully connected spiking neural network (FC-SNN) based on the reward-modulated spike-timing-dependent plasticity (R-STDP) learning rule as a decoder to learn higher-level features for classification. In addition, we improved the winner-take-all (WTA) mechanisms and R-STDP learning rule in the decoder based on the reward and punish decision, enabling the network to perform better. The experiments are performed on the N-MNIST, MNIST-DVS, and the DVS Gesture datasets, improving the accuracy of the best existing plasticity-based SNN by 0.19%, 0.27% and 1.35%, respectively. © 2016 IEEE.

Bacterial spot, a pervasive disease affecting Solanaceae crops such as tomatoes and peppers, poses a significant threat to global food security and agricultural productivity. This paper presents a novel approach that integrates transfer learning techniques with Large Language Models (LLMs) to detect bacterial spot with high accuracy and efficiency. We employed state-of-the-art convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures, including Inception-V3 and MobileNet-V2, which were pre-trained on extensive image datasets and fine-tuned on a curated dataset comprising both PlantVillage images and in-house generated photographs from diverse agricultural settings. These images were further enhanced for model training through age and color classification, addressing the phenotypic variability inherent in real-world agricultural *** performance of the CNN models was rigorously evaluated, with Inception-V3 achieving a remarkable 97% accuracy in identifying bacterial spot, while the integration with LLMs provided critical insights into disease management strategies, effectively creating a multifaceted decision support system. The LLMs facilitated the interpretation of complex disease symptoms and treatment efficacy reports, enhancing the overall precision of the diagnostic *** research underscores the potential of combining transfer learning and LLMs to revolutionize plant disease detection and agricultural practices. This integrative approach not only advances the field of precision agriculture but also opens up new pathways for scalable, data-driven solutions to combat plant diseases and bolster crop health monitoring worldwide. © 2024 IEEE.

Machine learning, a vital part of artificial intelli-gence, improves our ability to make predictions from complex data. The success of these predictions relies heavily on the model's fit with its data and the data's consistency. Accurate predictions depend on closely matching the model to the data patterns. However, missing data can seriously disrupt the accuracy of predictions, causing errors. To address this, we recommend adopting a proposed framework that enhances predictions by effectively filling in missing data. Our objective is to refine the accuracy of our predictions, especially in scenarios where the data might be incomplete and features exhibit patterns of dependency. In the context of missing data, our approach concentrates on enhancing regression performance to minimize the effects of missing data as effectively as possible. © 2024 IEEE.

Visitor management is a common activity that happens every day all around the world. Accepting visitors at home or in the office, going to the bank, or visiting a private residential area;some sort of visitor management goes on in all those activities to ensure access control and security. Insecurity is a big challenge that comes with receiving visitors and that is why visitor management is important. Traditionally, visitor management is handled physically by recording visitors’ information into a log book and asking visitors to contact their hosts before gaining access to a secured environment but this process is time-consuming and the visitor’s record is exposed to exploitation. Automated Visitor Management Systems (VMS) overcome the shortcomings of the traditional method of visitor management. VMS automates the process of recording visitors’ information, keeping a log of all visits, and ensuring some sort of access control or visitor authentication just in case of an imposter or if anything ever goes wrong. This study aims to design and model a flexible Mobile Visitor Management system that can be used to record visitors’ information and authenticate visitors for access control purposes. The study was achieved using Figma software to design and prototype the system and then using React Native and SQLite for the development of the system. The system has proven to be more convenient than the common traditional way of recording visitors’ information into a physical log book. The system protects its users from loss of information, waste of time, and insecurity. The flexible and inexpensive nature of the system makes it adaptable to almost any organization or property owner, this gives the general public a great opportunity to try out Visitor Management Technology. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

A prominent application in healthcare is the classification and detection of breast cancer using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). It entails creating a system that can precisely pinpoint malignant spots or gauge the tendency of breast cancer through the examination of diagnostic pictures like mammograms. This study focuses on the use of Convolutional Neural Networks for the detection and classification of breast cancer. The proposed model analyzes mammogram images to distinguish cancerous and non-cancerous instances automatically. Preparing the dataset developing the CNNs model’s architecture, training the model, assessing its performance, and producing predictions based on hypothetical data are all the steps in the process. The CNN model learns to extract relevant features and patterns from a large dataset, increasing classification accuracy. Tests show that the CNN model is effective at correctly identifying breast cancer. This method will help medical professionals diagnose patients quickly and correctly, improving patient outcomes in the fight against breast cancer. The prediction can be improved using post-processing techniques and the trained model can be used in practical applications. The model accuracy was 0.98 and the model loss was 0.14. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

A phase demodulation method immune to laser phase noise based on time-delay beat-frequency coherent Φ-OTDR is proposed. In this method, the two Rayleigh backscattered light beams with time delay are beat with local light beams respectively, and the phase difference of the two beat signals is used instead of the traditional distance-difference phase to obtain the local disturbance information. In this way, the impact of laser phase noise introduce by the distance-difference phase is avoid, and the constraint of laser linewidth on phase demodulation performance is weakened. In the experiment, a demodulation accuracy of -63.5dB rad2/Hz is achieved under the condition of a laser with a linewidth of 100kHz, which is improve by 11dB compared to traditional phase demodulation method. © 2023 IEEE.
