Privacy-Aware Edge Computation Offloading With Federated Learning in Healthcare Consumer Electronics System

The continuous iteration of consumer electronics has significantly promoted the development of medical devices, which has enabled the collection of large amounts of heterogeneous medical data. These data are offloaded from local devices to cloud servers for processing using traditional methods, which results in high transmission latency and the risk of privacy leakage. Additionally, researchers have employed federated learning to protect data privacy, but this approach can lead to a straggler effect due to the limited computational and communication resources of terminal devices. To address these issues, a computation offloading framework is designed to optimize task and resource allocation, addressing multi-optimization problems and mitigating the straggler effect in federated learning. Moreover, a novel computation offloading method within a federated learning framework assisted by edge computing, named DRWB, is proposed. Specifically, we develop a deep reinforcement learning-based approach to transfer lagging training tasks to idle edge servers, enhancing data processing speed, minimizing transmission delays, and protecting user privacy. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the DRWB method outperforms baseline methods, showcasing superior performance in handling heterogeneous medical data tasks. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

A recommender system(RS)relying on latent factor analysis usually adopts stochastic gradient descent(SGD)as its learning ***,owing to its serial mechanism,an SGD algorithm suffers from low efficiency and scalability when handling large-scale industrial *** at addressing this issue,this study proposes a momentum-incorporated parallel stochastic gradient descent(MPSGD)algorithm,whose main idea is two-fold:a)implementing parallelization via a novel datasplitting strategy,and b)accelerating convergence rate by integrating momentum effects into its training *** it,an MPSGD-based latent factor(MLF)model is achieved,which is capable of performing efficient and high-quality *** results on four high-dimensional and sparse matrices generated by industrial RS indicate that owing to an MPSGD algorithm,an MLF model outperforms the existing state-of-the-art ones in both computational efficiency and scalability.

Teletherapy for speech-language therapy (SLT) has become essential for many families. Early intervention for young children is important to ensure that developmental milestones are met. In this study, from a corpus of 10 videos, we present three cases of online and in-person therapy sessions with children between the ages of 3 and 6. Our analysis shows how online and in-person SLT sessions use tools, how they are conscripted into social and transactional moments, and identifies features of tools that support or hinder therapists’ goals (see Figure 1). From our findings, we discuss in detail four overarching features of tools and implications for design. These features support engagement, space usage, child-centred play, and adaptability in therapy sessions. The paper outlines how these features are present in the tools used in SLT, and describes how they impact SLT activities, therapists’ and children's goals, and the environment for social transactional activities.

The vehicle's yaw rate and body sideslip angle (BSA) are the most critical characteristics for describing the vehicle's stability performance. A three-degree-of-freedom planar model of the vehicle is used to improve the vehicle's yaw stability when front steering is used. We take yaw rate feedback as an input and present a yaw rate control system based on a fuzzy PID and a fractional PID controller. The controllers are designed in such a way that they generate the proper yaw rate, ensuring that the vehicle maintains the desired yaw rate values. A simulation is run in the context of a lane maneuver steering angle. The simulation results indicate that when the vehicle is subjected to a change in line of maneuver, the yaw rate of the controlled vehicle remains close to the desired value while the sideslip angle values degrade when the vehicle is subjected to the same cornering maneuver. © 2022 IEEE.

Quantum circuit transformation (QCT), necessary for adapting any quantum circuit to the qubit connectivity constraints of the NISQ device, often introduces numerous additional SWAP gates into the original circuit, increasing the circuit depth and thus reducing the success rate of computation. To minimize the depth of QCT circuits, we propose a Swapping-Sweeping- and-Rewriting optimizer. This optimizer rearranges the circuit based on generalized gate commutation rules via a genetic algorithm, extracts subcircuits consisting of CNOT gates using a circuit sweeping technique, and rewrites each subcircuit with a functionally equivalent and depth-optimal circuit generated by an SAT solver. The devised optimizer effectively captures the intrinsic patterns of the QCT circuits, and the experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm can significantly reduce the depth of QCT circuits, 26.68% at most and 12.18% on average, across all benchmark circuits. © 2025, CC BY.

The ERASMUS + project "Development of practically-oriented student-centered education in the field of modeling of Cyber-Physical Systems" (CybPhys) focuses on curricula modernizations in close cooperation with potential employers. Since the CybPhys project pursues to develop practically-oriented student-centered curricula, we involved industry representatives in the creation of new courses from the very beginning of the project. In the paper, we describe the curriculum development stages and obtain feedback from the main stakeholders. As part of the practically-oriented education, European partners in Riga Technical University, KU Leuven, and the University of Cyprus should arrange three schools for Ukrainian students. In this research, we focus on implementing practically-oriented and student-centered training methods at the school for Ukrainian students arranged at the RTU in January 2022. We describe novel methods and approaches applied in the students’ school, such as transversal skills, Design Thinking, involvement of industry representatives in the teacher team, etc. The survey of Ukrainian students and teachers revealed the presence or absence of correlations between students’ general perception of the school and teaching/ learning methods, e.g. developments of creative thinking, practical application of theory, etc. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The internet of things (IoT) has brought the properties of convenience, intelligence, and manageability into our daily lives. Nevertheless, it also gives malicious attackers lots of opportunity to compromise our private information. Hence, the security issue over IoT has become an emergent and crucial research topic. Kalra and Sood (2015) proposed an authentication scheme for IoT device and cloud server. Unfortunately, Chang et al. (2017) have pointed out the weaknesses of Kalra and Sood s scheme and provided proper improvements. However, we have found that the improved version still exist potential risks. Thus, we aim to develop a brand-new ECC-based authentication mechanism for offering a secure session between an IoT device and a cloud server. In particular, the new method is proved secure under the examination of AVISPA, which is a formal verification tool. © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.. All rights reserved.

The Internet of Things (IoT)'s exponentially growing network traffic has a significant impact on energy utilization and network performance. A recommended power-saving traffic control approach for cloud data centers uses virtual machines (VM) vacation. The essential idea is that the (VM) in the cloud system may go on vacation through the utilization of software-defined network (SDN) paradigm. The reduction of active VMs while upholding QoS standards is the aim for the QoS optimization. The M/M/1 queue model with working vacations (WV) and customer requests impatience behavior is examined in this research study. This study considers the possibility that the customer's impatience is caused by a WV. The requests to be served at the cloud data center by the VMs are at slow rate than normal during WVs and are prone to get impatient. An "impatience timer" that follows exponential distribution is activated whenever customer’s request reached to the cloud system and discovers that the VM is on WV. A customer leaves the queue and does not come back if their service is not finished before their timer runs out. The system's numerous performance parameters such as average system size, the sojourn time, the percentage of customer’s request being served, and the abandonment frequency are calculated. Finally, some numerical findings are obtained to show how some specific parameters affect the system performance indicators.

In this paper, the authors propose a new dynamic optical RAM based on a fiber-optic line. This device significantly increases the speed of information flows by reducing the time required to operate the RAM by 10. The proposed optical RAM increases the productivity and efficiency of information exchange between slow and fast devices of information and communication systems without software costs, which reduces the probability of failure by two times with the same buffer memory capacity. The authors proposed variants of the practical application of the new dynamic optical RAM. On its basis, a shift register, a serial-to-parallel code converter, a parallel-to-serial code converter, and a TDM switch for information system facilities were created. The time characteristics of signals in code converters based on a dynamic optical RAM are presented.

With the proliferation of the Large Language Model (LLM), the concept of World Models (WM) has recently attracted a great deal of attention in the AI research community, especially in the context of AI agents. It is arguably evolving into an essential foundation for building AI agent systems. A WM is intended to help the agent predict the future evolution of environmental states or help the agent fill in missing information so that it can plan its actions and behave safely. The safety property of WM plays a key role in their effective use in critical applications. In this work, we review and analyze the impacts of the current state-of-the-art in WM technology from the point of view of trustworthiness and safety based on a comprehensive survey and the fields of application envisaged. We provide an in-depth analysis of state-of-the-art WMs and derive technical research challenges and their impact in order to call on the research community to collaborate on improving the safety and trustworthiness of WM. © 2024 IEEE.
