An innovative approach to classify meniscus tears by reducing vision transformers features with elasticnet approach

Meniscal tears, a prevalent orthopedic condition caused by abrupt knee movements, excessive load, or injury, require an accurate diagnosis for effective treatment. This study investigates the vision transformer (ViT) models' efficacy in automated classification of meniscus pathologies. It also explores how feature reduction using the ElasticNet method can improve classification accuracy and computational efficiency. The study utilized MRI scans from a dataset comprising 5000 images collected from clinical cases. Initially, classification was performed using EfficientNet and SqueezeNet architectures. Subsequently, feature extraction was conducted using ViT models, generating a feature set of 1000 dimensions. ElasticNet was employed to reduce features before reclassification using support vector machines (SVM). Model performance was evaluated based on accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity. The ViT_base_32 model achieved a classification accuracy of 99.9% with a processing time of 1.2 s. Feature reduction via ElasticNet significantly enhanced classification performance while maintaining high precision, sensitivity, and specificity. These improvements demonstrate the effectiveness of combining ViT models with ElasticNet to diagnose meniscal tears. The findings highlight the potential of vision transformer models, in conjunction with ElasticNet, to provide rapid and highly accurate diagnostic assistance for meniscal injuries. This methodology shows promise for application to other medical diagnostic domains, offering valuable advancements in healthcare technology. © The Author(s) 2025.

Question Classification plays a vital role in identifying the accurate answer to any question, and is considered as a core component of Question Answering Systems. In Nepali Natural Language Processing, the area of Question Answering has not even been initiated due to a lack of dataset. The dataset of Nepali factual questions has been created by collecting questions from general knowledge books and labelling them with developed taxonomy. The problem of Nepali factoid question classification has been studied with a Support Vector Machine, which works as a baseline classification algorithm and obtained a 0.74 weighted F1-score in the imbalance dataset. The experimental results of the proposed model show the effectiveness of the approach in classifying factoid questions accurately compared with the state-of-the-art approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Ransomware is a malicious software that attempts to encrypt the user's files and demand a ransom in exchange for decrypting the files. This malware may have catastrophic impacts on the availability of data and consequently on the services provided by the infected organizations and institutes. Ransomware detection has been a challenge for researchers in the past few years. In this paper, we propose a behavioral ransomware detection method that utilizes fast selective hashing techniques. By selective we mean that only few selected blocks from a file are used for similarity comparison. Our experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method in ransonware detection in terms of detection time. For 1000 files of a total size of 20GB and a detection threshold set to five files, our proposed system is able to detect a ransomware on average within 2.76 seconds saving 99.5% of the total files without taking much of the system resources and affecting user experience. © 2022 IEEE.

Natural language in social media is often ambiguous, carrying diverse perspectives that are critical for opinion analysis. With vast amounts of unstructured data, particularly on platforms like Twitter, it is impractical to manually analyse relevant insights. This rapid data growth has highlighted the need for intelligent filtering and mining techniques in decision support systems to help organizations build brand reputation, foster online communities, and enhance profitability. Multi-Emotion detection is key for capturing implicit user opinions and specific emotional states;however, challenges such as text bipolarity, limited representative feature vectors, and inadequate annotated lexicons often hinder accuracy. This research aims to improve multi-emotion detection accuracy by extracting emotion implied tokens and converting them into feature vectors that capture semantic relevance. Using annotated lexicons, word embeddings, unigrams, and term frequency, these vectors are trained across five machine learning models, which are Naïve Bayes (NB), Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), K- nearest neighbor (KNN), and Multi- layer Percepton (MLP). Finally, two ensemble techniques are applied to refine model outputs, achieving an improvement accuracy over previous work worked. The proposed system, evaluated on a real dataset, achieves a hamming score of 0.55 and an average F1 score of 0.68, demonstrating its potential for effective multi-label emotion detection. © 2025 IEEE.

The advent of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has revolutionized manufacturing and production systems, enhancing efficiency and communication through the integration of advanced technologies such as IoT devices and AI. Cyber Ranges emerges as a critical solution in addressing these challenges, offering a controlled environment for simulating cyber-attack scenarios, training cybersecurity teams, and developing robust defense strategies. The escalating demand for cybersecurity professionals has highlighted the crucial need for effective training solutions. This article presents an open-source Cyber Range constructed on container-based architecture, meticulously engineered for efficient operation with minimal resource consumption. In response to the scarcity of cybersecurity experts, this platform prioritizes extensive scalability and robust isolation between exercises, ensuring secure learning environments, and also integrates a complex developed exercise series aimed at strengthening cybersecurity learning experiences. These exercises encompass a variety of scenarios and challenges, catering to professionals at different skill levels. Each exercise replicates real-world cyber threats, offering practical, hands-on learning opportunities. Additionally, a comprehensive questionnaire accompanies these exercises, designed to gather feedback on participants' experiences. © 2024 IEEE.

The neurological condition epilepsy is demanding and even fatal. Electroencephalogram (EEG)-based epilepsy detection still faces various difficulties. EEG readings fluctuate, and different patients have various seizure activity patterns. EEG signal detection is time-consuming and labour-intensive, which puts a strain on medical staff and raises the possibility of erroneous detections. Usually, electrodes are inserted into the scalp or inside the brain for a brief period of time in order to obtain EEG data. It is essential to research efficient cross-patient automatic epilepsy detection techniques. The multi-head self-attention mechanism recognises long-distance dependencies with the same proficiency as it does temporal dynamic correlations between short-term temporal pattern characteristics and sequential relationships. The contextual representations are inputted into a bidirectional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM) so that information can be extracted in both directions. Classification and training are carried out utilising the log SoftMax algorithm. The experiments utilised scalp EEG data from the CHB-MIT database. Sensitivity, specificity, F1-score, and accuracy were computed to be 96.5 percent, 97.04 percent, 96.6 percent, and 96.2 percent, respectively. The results of the experiment show how well the technique works for detecting seizures in several patients utilising multi-channel EEG recordings. The results also demonstrate the method's improved generalisation capabilities and resilience and consistency in collecting seizure patterns. This is particularly critical for the tertiary diagnosis of epilepsy, and the findings indicate that the proposed method significantly improves the accuracy of detection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In recent years, support vector machine has become one of the most important classification techniques in pattern recognition, machine learning, and data mining due to its superior classification effect and solid theoretical base. However, its training time will increase dramatically as the number of samples increases, and training will become more sophisticated when dealing with problems involving multiple classifications. A quick training data reduction approach MOIS appropriate for multi-classification tasks is presented as a solution for the aforementioned issues. While eliminating redundant training samples, the boundary samples that play a vital role are chosen in order to considerably reduce training data and the problem of unequal distribution between categories. The experimental results demonstrate that MOIS may maintain or even improve the classification performance of support vector machines while substantially enhancing training efficiency. On the Opt digit dataset, the suggested method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%, while training time is reduced to 15% of the original;in HCL2000, the proposed method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%. When the accuracy rate is marginally increased (from 99.29% to 99.30%) on the first 100 categories dataset, the training time is dramatically reduced to less than 6% of the original.
