Application of Protein-Protein Interaction Network Analysis in Order to Identify Cervical Cancer miRNA and mRNA Biomarkers

Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the world’s most common and severe cancers. This cancer includes two histological types: squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (ADC). The current study aims at identifying novel potential candidate mRNA and miRNA biomarkers for SCC based on a protein-protein interaction (PPI) and miRNA-mRNA network analysis. The current project utilized a transcriptome profile for normal and SCC samples. First, the PPI network was constructed for the 1335 DEGs, and then, a significant gene module was extracted from the PPI network. Next, a list of miRNAs targeting module’s genes was collected from the experimentally validated databases, and a miRNA-mRNA regulatory network was formed. After network analysis, four driver genes were selected from the module’s genes including MCM2, MCM10, POLA1, and TONSL and introduced as potential candidate biomarkers for SCC. In addition, two hub miRNAs, including miR-193b-3p and miR-615-3p, were selected from the miRNA-mRNA regulatory network and reported as possible candidate biomarkers. In summary, six potential candidate RNA-based biomarkers consist of four genes containing MCM2, MCM10, POLA1, and TONSL, and two miRNAs containing miR-193b-3p and miR-615-3p are opposed as potential candidate biomarkers for CC. Several previous works examine the use of cryptographic mining machines, for instance Bitcoin mining machines, in demand-response mechanisms, as part of the portfolio of assets managed by the grid operator. In this paper we extend this formulation by highlighting the effects of fast ramping transients, which may often occur in power grids rich with renewable energy sources. The resulting optimization problem is solved based on Pontryagin's minimum principle. We use this solution to examine the profitability and usage of these machines in a real-world settings, based on data from the California ISO and the ``Noga'' grid operator. In our analysis, we compare the effects of several key parameters, such as the electricity price, and the machines' price, hashrate and monetary revenue. These are examined for several different machine types that are available in the market today. Our main conclusion is that the profitability of the discussed mechanism is highly influenced by the cost of the mining machines, and the percentage of renewable sources within the energy mix, where some scenarios are more profitable then others. © 2025, The Authors. Eye-tracking can detect and examine human visual attention, emotional conditions, latent cognitive processes such as efforts to recall a concept or the fear of running out of time, and so on. Hence, we can use eye-tracking to identify deviant behavior patterns in learning and problem-solving. At present, given the existence of a global pandemic, online exams are widely used by educational institutions to evaluate students' performance. However, identifying cheating is challenging due to the absence of a human (invigilator) monitoring students' behavior as done in exams held in a physical location. In an online environment, students' behavior, and attempts to cheat, can only be captured via a computer, thus requiring a mechanism for online proctoring with capabilities for cheating detection. In this research paper, we present a browser based cheating detection approach in online examinations through eye gaze tracking. We developed a browser plugin to track the eye gaze movements through the in-built web camera. Using the plugin, we generate an eye gaze dataset while a student faces an online examination. We then process and analyze this dataset to detect any misbehavior during an online examination. The underlying research work of this paper identifies different eye gaze patterns during online examinations and present a cheating detection mechanism. For anomaly detection in the eye gaze data, we use a One-Class Support Vector Machine (OCSVM). We then use these identified anomalies to predict cheating behaviors of the test takers. The given approach can be used for any web-based quiz examination such as academic institutions' exams, company recruitment exams, and overseas testing exams to detect any anomalous behaviors of the test takers during the examination period. The given eye tracking approach can also be applied to other research domains such as online gaming, and web usability studies to capture information related to user behaviors. © 2021 IEEE.

This research aimed to reveal the information process in the brain of the patients who suffered from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using the power spectra and timelag analysis in electroencephalogram (EEG). The patients with MCI have memory or thinking problems, and are at a great risk of developing Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Ten patients with MCI and 13 healthy adults (non-MCI) were examined. The EEGs (122.88 seconds/subject) during a state of relaxation with the eyes closed, were analyzed using the Fourier analysis (power spectrum) and the timelag analysis. The results showed that the mean value of the power spectra in MCI was significantly higher than the mean value in non-MCI in the theta band. The mean value of the absolute timelag values (ATL) in MCI was significantly lower than the mean value in non-MCI in the frontal and left temporal areas. Our findings suggest that the features from EEG of MCI were abstracted in the theta band, and the propagation of information related to memory in brain would becoming fast in MCI. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has devastated the entire globe in a short period of time and was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11th, 2020. It rapidly increased in fatality rate and has become an international public health crisis, culminating in social and economic calamity. However, mobile applications are being introduced globally to minimize the coronavirus's continuous spread by tracing people's circulation or mobility using digital software and smartphones. There is no digitally equipped tool that monitors the movement of the people, particularly in the public places. This work on Smarter Movement Control Application (SMCApp) aims to develop methods that will assist Malaysian people to move around with the aid of mobile tracing application. Therefore, the SMCApp was designed and developed as a mobile application software which stands to improve compliance with the mandated SOP measures across the country, as well as to provide digital support to those who wish to travel to various parts of the country. As a result, it is concluded that the usage of Smarter Movement Control Application (SMCApp) is hoped to bring about safe and effective movement of people throughout these two regions, as it will constantly alert individuals of any suspicious close-contact or the state of the location. Once the application is in effect, with at least 90% of users installing the App on their smartphones, it is projected to increase tranquility and elevate compliance with SOP measures. © 2022 IEEE.

CoATR: Integrating Model and Data-Driven for Learning Sparse Spatio-Temporal Traffic Data

Spatio-temporal traffic data collected by various sensing systems have chronic issues of missing and corruption, thus accurate data imputation and prediction have been extensively researched. Previous methods can be divided into two categories: model-driven methods with physical explanations and data-driven deep learning methods. These methods have some limitations: model-driven methods are often linear and may not accurately model the spatio-temporal complexity, while deep learning methods often lack the physical reality making them probe to over-fitting. Inspired by both, we propose a new Convolutional-based generalized Autoregressive Tensor-Ring decomposition method (CoATR) for the completion of spatiotemporal data. CoATR not only retains the advantages of the tensor-ring (TR) decomposition model for global modeling of spatio-temporal data but also exploits the ability of deep networks to model nonlinear features. To be specific, we introduce TR decomposition to capture the global low-rankness and employ multilayer convolutional neural networks to model the global complex interactions among the TR factors. Moreover, we design a new autoregressive network to further explore the local temporal variation in the data. Extensive experiments on a variety of common traffic datasets have validated the effectiveness and superiority of the CoATR over classical model-driven methods and other state-of-the-art data-driven deep learning methods. © 2023, The Authors. Interface design is a mandatory aspect influencing the success of an e-Learning system implementation. User interface (UI) design of e-learning is a point of interaction between user and computer software. Users prefer more attractive and simpler interface designs rather than dull or complex designs. This study aims to outline the impact of UI design on the satisfaction of learners. Specifically, this study will be evaluating different user interaction design strategies such as ease of navigation, ease of resource discoverability, ease of configuring integrated tools etc. in e-learning platforms such as learning management systems, and massive open online courses (MOOCs). Further, this research aims to find answers for the challenges and issues faced by students and teachers when using e-learning platforms. A comprehensive questionnaire was distributed among teachers and students. Collected data was analyzed to get an idea about main interface design problems that frustrate the learners and teachers and distract them from educational tasks. Using this statistical analysis results, a model is proposed indicating success factors and failure factors that may affect to e-learning system interface designing. Moreover, this research also results in a set of guidelines or suggestions that can be followed to improve UI designing in e-learning platforms. Finally, an initial prototype implementation capable of recommending suggestions intelligently for e-learning platform designers and users is proposed after modelling the user satisfaction factors. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper reviews the use of Minikube in multi-node mode to work with the ETSI MEC Sandbox as a lightweight multi-access edge computing platform simulator (LWMECPS). The work included a comparative analysis of MEC platforms in terms of functionality, cost of deployment, and complexity of adoption. An experiment was also conducted to test LWMECPS as a MEC platform using a Python3 test application. The experiment confirmed the feasibility of using LWMECPS as a MEC platform by deploying a Kubernetes deployment based on the number of users on the simulated 4g-macro network service zones from the ETSI MEC Sandbox. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of existing scientific literature on the use of multi-access edge computing platforms in various use cases.

Speech Recognition focuses on developing advanced technologies that can recognize and translate spoken language into text. Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that captures human voice from a mi-crophone and analyzes it based on spoken words to comprehend natural language. In Ethiopia, ASR models have been developed for specific local languages such as Amharic, Tigrigna, Wolaytta, and Afaan Oromo, but there has been a lack of research on ASR models for the Hadiyyisa language, which is also spoken in Ethiopia. The research study designed and developed an ASR model for the Hadiyyisa language. The researchers collected data from native speakers of the Hadiyyisa language and used Python programming to design and develop the deep learning model for the Hadiyissa ASR model. Different methods and techniques were used in the study to achieve the research objectives and complete the entire research process. The proposed model utilized deep learning algorithms including RNN, LSTM, BiLSTM, and CNN, along with suitable feature extraction techniques such as Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC). The accuracy of the proposed ASR model was evaluated through experimentation, which demonstrated that the BiLSTM model outperformed the other deep learning models with an overall accuracy of 90.95 % Based on the experimental evidence, the proposed model was found to be better suited for ASR for the Hadiyyisa language.

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers achieve higher importance due to the high expansion rate of photovoltaic systems. The probability of partial shading conditions (PSCs) is also increased which drastically reduced the maximum power extraction capability from PV systems. In this paper, different types of MPPT algorithms using direct control method have been examined under the same test conditions. The current research trend on MPPT controllers has also been highlighted.
