Facial emotion detection holds significant relevance across various domains, from psychology and marketing to education and security. Despite its importance, prevalent techniques often grapple with issues like low precision, susceptibility to lighting changes, obstructions, and distinct facial characteristics. Addressing these challenges, our research embarked on devising a robust and precise facial emotion detector harnessing the potential of machine learning, focusing on convolutional neural networks (CNN). Comprehensive testing revealed that our model surpasses existing state-of-the-art techniques, showcasing superior performance on benchmark datasets. The salience of our research is underscored by its profound implications for myriad real-world applications hinging on accurate facial emotion recognition. We present an enhanced model, distinguished not just by its accuracy but also its robustness, making it apt for diverse scenarios from insightful marketing initiatives and nuanced medical diagnoses to enriched educational experiences. Through this endeavor, we have accentuated the transformative capacity of machine learning in refining and redefining facial emotion detection methodologies.

Multi-objective optimization is a branch of computation to solve mathematical optimization problems when conflicting multiple objective functions must be simultaneously optimized. Many population-based algorithms, such as NSGA-II are used to find an optimal Pareto set of solutions in a short time. However, previous research works showed the performance of classic NSGA-II is degraded when solving problems with many objectives (M ≥ 5). In this work, we aim to take advantage of center-based sampling scheme to increase the exploration and exploitation capability of NSGA-II algorithm. This sampling strategy has demonstrated promising results on several single-objective evolutionary algorithms such as GA, DE, and PSO. Recently, a novel clustering center-based strategy has been proposed, which motivated us to utilize center-based sampling scheme in NSGA-II to solve multi-objective optimization problems. The outcomes confirm that the proposed clustering center-based NSGA-II is able to effectively solve CEC-2017 multi-objective benchmark problems with 2, 3, 5, 10, and 15 objectives.

Internet of things (IoT) encompasses millions of resource constrained wirelessly connected devices that are very often prone to external malicious attacks. Hence, there arises a need for protecting these devices from such attacks. In this paper, we have proposed a secure communication scheme for resource constrained scheme where a device is identified by a key pair, public key and private key, and its unique identification (ID) that is assigned to it by Google Cloud IoT Core and the device stores the private key for communication with the server. Key generation uses a cryptographic approach. The communication can be facilitated by the device communicating its private key along with a cryptographically signed Java-based Web Token (JWT) to the MQTT bridge following which the connection can be established. YOLO has become a central real-time object detection system for robotics, driverless cars, and video monitoring applications. Developing a custom object detection solution that can detect specific objects in real-time video streams has the potential to revolutionize various fields and has been the subject of extensive research. Although there have been advances in object detection, there is still a gap in the research for real-time detection of custom objects with high accuracy and speed. This research addresses this gap by training a YOLOv8 detector on a custom dataset of objects and evaluating its performance on real-time video streams which is by far the latest model and thus is faster and more accurate. Our experimental results demonstrate that our custom-trained YOLOv8 detector achieves high accuracy and real-time performance on a custom dataset of objects. The detector achieved an overall mAP50 of 0.864 and a mAP50-95 of 0.758, with individual class results ranging from 0.47 to 0.995. These findings show that custom training data and YOLOv8 are effective in real-time object detection, which has practical applications in various fields. The significance of the results and our contribution lies in demonstrating the effectiveness of custom training data for improving object detection accuracy and speed using YOLO, which has implications for a wide range of real-world applications.

Requirements change throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirement elicitation and analysis to software operation. software requirements can be traced back to their source and shown to depend on one another. According to studies, the tools and techniques for the present traceability methodologies need to be revised to prevent the practical application of traceability. We analyzed evaluation techniques and requirements traceability tools in this article to determine whether evaluation techniques are truly being used and supported by software tools. As a result, we noted no connection between the approaches and tools examined and that some criteria, such as stakeholder communication, difficulty of tools, and requirement stability, needed to be better considered in the evaluated tools.

The paper outlines the divergence of beam and operating wavelength bands effects on free-space optics communication channels in local access networks. The max Q factor and min bit error rate are measured based on the divergence of beam and operating wavelength bands variations. The signal is tested also at the receiver side by using an optical power meter visualizer at various operating signal wavelength bands and under the optimum values of the divergence of the beam. The immune and enteric systems have been implicated in psychopathology, including depressive disorders. However, the precise neurocognitive mechanisms remain unclear. The present study uses Brain-Inspired Spiking Neural Network (SNN) technique to model electroencephalographic (EEG) data as a function of gut-microbiota, inflammation, and depressive symptoms. Forty-two participants (nonclinical cohort) were assessed for Bacteroides-Prevotella (BAC) colonization in faecal samples, Interleukin 6 (IL-6) in peripheral blood, depressive symptoms (self-report of cognitive and non-cognitive symptoms) and brain function (resting state EEG). SNN models were applied to EEG data to generate connection weight values across scalp regions. Connection weights were visualized as a function of 1) depression;2) inflammation;3) gut microbiome. Lower depression and higher BAC were associated with higher frontal connection weights (cognitive depression = bilateral, non-cognitive and BAC = left hemisphere only). Lower cognitive depression and lower IL-6 were associated with higher posterior connection weights. The SNN models achieved higher accuracy for theta and alpha EEG sub-bands, highlighting their relevance in differentiating between groups. These findings emphasize the potential of SNNs in predicting parameters from brain functional connectivity data and developing targeted diagnostic and intervention strategies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Low-code programming (LCP) refers to programming using models at higher levels of abstraction, resulting in less manual and more efficient programming, and reduced learning effort for amateur developers. Many LCP tools have rapidly evolved and have benefited from the concepts of visual programming languages (VPLs) and programming by demonstration (PBD). With huge increase in interest in using large language models (LLMs) in software engineering, LLM-based LCP has began to become increasingly important. However, the technical principles and application scenarios of traditional approaches to LCP and LLM-based LCP are significantly different. Understanding these key differences and characteristics in the application of the two approaches to LCP by users is crucial for LCP providers in improving existing and developing new LCP tools, and in better assisting users in choosing the appropriate LCP technology. We conducted an empirical study of both traditional LCP and LLM-based LCP. We analyzed developers’ discussions on Stack Overflow (SO) over the past three years and then explored the similarities and differences between traditional LCP and LLM-based LCP features and developer feedback. Our findings reveal that while traditional LCP and LLM-based LCP share common primary usage scenarios, they significantly differ in scope, limitations and usage throughout the software development lifecycle, particularly during the implementation phase. We also examine how LLMs impact and integrate with LCP, discussing the latest technological developments in LLM-based LCP, such as its integration with VPLs and the application of LLM Agents in software engineering. In recent years, support vector machine has become one of the most important classification techniques in pattern recognition, machine learning, and data mining due to its superior classification effect and solid theoretical base. However, its training time will increase dramatically as the number of samples increases, and training will become more sophisticated when dealing with problems involving multiple classifications. A quick training data reduction approach MOIS appropriate for multi-classification tasks is presented as a solution for the aforementioned issues. While eliminating redundant training samples, the boundary samples that play a vital role are chosen in order to considerably reduce training data and the problem of unequal distribution between categories. The experimental results demonstrate that MOIS may maintain or even improve the classification performance of support vector machines while substantially enhancing training efficiency. On the Opt digit dataset, the suggested method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%, while training time is reduced to 15% of the original;in HCL2000, the proposed method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%. When the accuracy rate is marginally increased (from 99.29% to 99.30%) on the first 100 categories dataset, the training time is dramatically reduced to less than 6% of the original. Lower limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robots can effectively improve the rehabilitation of stroke patients and can substantially reduce the workload of rehabilitation therapists and improve work efficiency. In this paper, we propose a method to investigate the influence of muscle groups on the hip joint during the gait cycle through kinetic modeling simulation. The method is validated using electromyographic signals (EMG). The patients are treated according to their gait characteristics. Simulation with OpenSim; optimisation by Scone controller; joint motion change curves were analysed by Matlab simulation to verify the correctness of the mathematical model, and the simulation showed excellent following effect. The feasibility of the theory is verified, and a new scheme is proposed for the treatment of stroke patients.
