SQUMUTH squirrel search based algorithm for high order mutant generation in mutation testing

In today's software testing community, quality assessment remains critical, with mutation testing standing as a cornerstone technique for evaluating the effectiveness of test cases. This method involves introducing faulty code, or mutants, into the program to assess the quality of the test suite and other testing methods. However, mutation testing faces challenges such as the generation of numerous mutants, the presence of equivalent mutants that are difficult to detect through testing, and the lack of realistic mutant creation. Literature reviews indicate significant efforts to address these issues through formal solutions and heuristic methods. Recent optimization-based methods are now recognized as cost-effective result in an optimized solution. Hence, to overcome these limitations, this study introduces SQUMUTH, a novel approach for high-order mutant generation based on the Squirrel Search Algorithm (SSA). Inspired by the foraging behavior of squirrels, SSA offers a promising solution for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of mutation testing. Experimental evaluations on eight well-known Java benchmark programs demonstrate that SQUMUTH outperforms existing methods. Comparative analyses of mutation scores and the rates of realistic mutants consistently show its better performance across all subject programs compared to other state-of-the-art methods such as Social Group Optimization, Binary Genetic Algorithm, and random testing. The experimental results underscore its effectiveness in generating more realistic mutants. The experimental results indicated that the proposed approach has the potential to advance software testing by improving the cost-effectiveness of mutation analysis and the quality of software systems. © The Author(s) 2025.

Most of the research conducted in action recognition is mainly focused on general human action recognition, and most of the available datasets support studies in general human action recognition. In more specific contexts, such as basketball, datasets that are as comprehensive and publicly available are limited. This study proposes taking three popular and mature methods in the field of action recognition, namely Temporal Segment Networks (TSN), Two-Stream CNN using Inflated 3D-convolutional Neural Networks (I3D) and Pose-C3D, and applying them to the SpaceJam dataset, which is a basketball-specific action dataset. All three experiments used pre-trained ImageNet models and were fine-tuned on the SpaceJam dataset. TSN was the oldest of the methods but obtained the best results of the three experiments, scoring a top-1 and top-5 accuracy of 59% and 96%, respectively. I3D was second best, with a top-1 and top-5 accuracy of 41% and 85%, respectively. Pose-C3D came in third, scoring a top-1 and top-5 accuracy of 15% and 50%, respectively. The results show that the models cannot distinguish significantly between some actions, such as ball in hand, pass and dribble. The study shows that it is feasible for context-specific fine-grain action recognition, but more needs to be done to discriminate against similar actions. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

We study the task of automated house design,which aims to automatically generate 3D houses from user ***,in the automatic system,it is non-trivial due to the intrinsic complexity of house designing:1)the understanding of user requirements,where the users can hardly provide high-quality requirements without any professional knowledge;2)the design of house plan,which mainly focuses on how to capture the effective information from user *** address the above issues,we propose an automatic house design framework,called auto-3D-house design(A3HD).Unlike the previous works that consider the user requirements in an unstructured way(e.g.,natural language),we carefully design a structured list that divides the requirements into three parts(i.e.,layout,outline,and style),which focus on the attributes of rooms,the outline of the building,and the style of decoration,*** the processing of architects,we construct a bubble diagram(i.e.,graph)that covers the rooms′attributes and relations under the constraint of *** addition,we take each outline as a combination of points and orders,ensuring that it can represent the outlines with arbitrary ***,we propose a graph feature generation module(GFGM)to capture layout features from the bubble diagrams and an outline feature generation module(OFGM)for outline ***,we render 3D houses according to the given style requirements in a rule-based *** on two benchmark datasets(i.e.,RPLAN and T3HM)demonstrate the effectiveness of our A3HD in terms of both quantitative and qualitative evaluation metrics.

This paper examines the escalating ransomware threats faced by government-managed educational institutions, focusing on their vulnerabilities, case studies, and mitigation strategies. With the adoption of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies, schools increasingly expose their networks to cyber risks, making them attractive targets for cybercriminals. Case studies, including attacks on the Los Angeles Unified School District and the University of California, San Francisco, illustrate the profound impact of ransomware incidents and the diverse responses of institutions. Effective cybersecurity measures are crucial, emphasizing the need for prioritized spending, comprehensive security training, and advanced detection and response strategies. The role of government is also vital, as it develops legislation, guidelines, and funding opportunities to enhance educational cybersecurity. Recommendations include technical measures to secure networks and collaborative educational initiatives to share best practices. Ultimately, this research study underscores the necessity of continuous adaptation and government support in fortifying defences against ransomware threats. The current COVID-19 epidemic is responsible for causing a catastrophe on a global scale due to its risky spread. The community’s insecurity is growing as a result of a lack of appropriate remedial measures and immunization against the disease. In this case, social distancing is thought to be an effective barrier against the spread of the contagion virus as the risk of virus transmission can be reduced by avoiding direct contact with people. Thus, the goal of this research is to develop and improve an AI (Artificial Intelligence) system architecture for social distance monitoring. The framework could also use the GPS (Global Positioning System) to recognize human separation through cell phones. The transition learning framework is also applied to improve the consistency of the existing system. In this manner, the detection system uses a pre-trained technique that takes a Bluetooth dataset and location-sharing dataset to link to an additional level. In an attempt to approximate social distancing breaches among people, we used Bluetooth technology along with GPS distance estimation and set a threshold. To predict if the distance value exceeds the required social distance standard, a violation threshold is calculated and then it sends an alarm to every individual who is not maintaining social distancing. In response, the individual who breaks the social distance limit is also monitored using a detection approach. © 2025 Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea. All rights reserved.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) involves the real-time gathering of information from physical devices and technologies for improved perception and management. To ensure information transmission security, an efficient and secure cryptography scheme is needed, especially for devices under resource constraints. In this paper, a heterogeneous signcryption (HSC) scheme is designed to meet security requirements in the IIoT environment. This construction employs a heterogeneous system, with the sender using certificateless cryptography (CLC) to effectively solve the key escrow problem in identity-based cryptography (IBC) and the certificate management problem in public key infrastructure (PKI). The receiver, on the other hand, uses IBC to settle the certificate management issue in PKI. The scheme supports formal security proof in the random oracle model (ROM). Furthermore, the detailed performance analysis demonstrates that the scheme has advantages in terms of energy consumption and computation overhead, making it suitable for the IIoT environment. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

the growth of IoT devices presents significant security challenges due to their diverse and dynamic environments. To address this, we developed HAMI, a novel intrusion detection system. Our method leverages the GIFS algorithm, which combines feature rankings from ensemble models with genetic algorithms to uncover subtle inter-feature correlations, enhancing detection accuracy. Additionally, we introduce GridSearchSMOTE, a technique that optimizes data balancing by evaluating various SMOTE variants through a meticulous grid search, ensuring optimal performance for each dataset. Empirical evaluations of HAMI show superior accuracy, achieving a 99% detection rate and reduced false positives, outperforming existing systems. These results underscore HAMI's potential to significantly improve IoT network security by exploring its scalability and real-time detection capabilities. © 2025 IEEE.

Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) emerged as an innovative and patient-centric approach for non-invasive and painless examination of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It serves as a pivotal tool in helping medical practitioners in the early detection of anomalies within the intricate domain of the human GI tract. The automated identification of aberrations assumes paramount significance, contributing not only to temporal efficiency but also to timely diagnosis. Within the realm of academic literature, a plethora of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies have been proposed to effectuate the automatic classification, segmentation, and synthesis of anomalies inherent in WCE images. This scholarly endeavor undertakes a comprehensive and meticulous survey, elucidating the spectrum of anomaly classification, summarization, and detection techniques harnessed for computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) in the context of WCE images. The survey begins by delineating the methodologies underpinning WCE image classification and video processing. Subsequently, an exhaustive evaluation of techniques for analyzing WCE images is furnished, accompanied by an in-depth exploration of pertinent surveys, in addition to a judicious assessment of their merits and demerits. Furthermore, this study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of prevailing datasets utilized to benchmark the efficacy of various WCE techniques. Preservation of the crops depends on early and accurate detection of pests on crops as they cause several diseases decreasing crop production and quality. Several deep-learning techniques have been applied to overcome the issue of pest detection on crops. We have developed the YOLOCSP-PEST model for Pest localization and classification. With the Cross Stage Partial Network (CSPNET) backbone, the proposed model is a modified version of You Only Look Once Version 7 (YOLOv7) that is intended primarily for pest localization and classification. Our proposed model gives exceptionally good results under conditions that are very challenging for any other comparable models especially conditions where we have issues with the luminance and the orientation of the images. It helps farmers working out on their crops in distant areas to determine any infestation quickly and accurately on their crops which helps in the quality and quantity of the production yield. The model has been trained and tested on 2 datasets namely the IP102 data set and a local crop data set on both of which it has shown exceptional results. It gave us a mean average precision (mAP) of 88.40% along with a precision of 85.55% and a recall of 84.25% on the IP102 dataset meanwhile giving a mAP of 97.18% on the local data set along with a recall of 94.88% and a precision of 97.50%. These findings demonstrate that the proposed model is very effective in detecting real-life scenarios and can help in the production of crops improving the yield quality and quantity at the same time.

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) involves the narrowing of the spinal canal, leading to compression of the spinal cord and nerves in the lower back. Common causes include injuries, degenerative age-related changes, congenital conditions, and tumors, all of which contribute to back pain. Early diagnosis is critical for symptom management, preventing progression, and preserving quality of life. This study systematically reviews AI-based approaches for predicting LSS using MRI axial and sagittal imaging. The review focuses on various AI tasks: detection, segmentation, classification, hybrid approaches, spinal index measurements (SIM), and explainable AI frameworks. The aim is to highlight current knowledge, identify limitations in existing models, and propose future research directions. Following PRISMA guidelines and the PICO method (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome), the review collects data from databases like PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and IEEE Xplore (2005–2024). The Rayyan AI tool is used for duplicate removal and screening. The screening process includes an initial review of titles and abstracts, followed by full-text appraisal. The Meta Quality Appraisal Tool (MetaQAT) assesses the quality of selected articles. Of 1323 records, 97 duplicates were removed. After screening, 895 records were excluded, leaving 331 for full-text review. Among these, 184 articles were excluded for lacking AI relevance. Ultimately, 95 key articles (91 technical papers and 4 reviews) were identified for their contributions to AI-based LSS prediction. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of AI techniques in LSS prediction, guiding future research and advancing understanding in areas like explainable AI and large language models (LLMs). © The Author(s) 2025.
