We present a continuous reciprocal-kind Zhang dynamics (RKZD) model for solving the time-dependent linear matrixvector equation. On the basis of the model, we deduce its simplified form for solving the time-independent linear matrix-vector equation (TILMVE). Subsequently, for more efficient computation and easier implementation in digital hardware, we utilize Euler forward difference formula (EFDF) to discretize the continuous RKZD model, resulting in a discrete RKZD algorithm. Finally, numerical experimental results attest to the feasibility and high effectiveness of the discrete RKZD algorithm for solving TILMVE. Comparisons with the discrete gradient neural network (or termed discrete gradient dynamics), Jacobi iteration, as well as Gauss-Seidel iteration highlight the superior convergence properties of the discrete RKZD algorithm. © 2023 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

The use of assistive technology in the field of education is now a common practice in today’s tech-driven era. The implementation is quite rampant in all levels and sections of education, including by special needs students with hearing impairments. With the help of technology or Internet of Things (IoT), they are offered with better opportunities to improve their communication and the teaching and learning process especially when it comes to sign language. However, the situation is quite different for Muslim deaf individuals. Sign language is not only used for communication but also as a form for reciting the Quran. Yet, the utilization of technology in the area of sign language for Quranic recitation is still limited. Hence, the goal of this study was to design and develop a sensor-based sign language recognition device consisting of a sensory smart glove and mobile application to detect Arabic sign language alphabets used in Quran recitation. The experimental result shows that the gesture recognition rate of 28 different Arabic alphabet signs, performed by 7 different signers, is 79.08%. The significance of the system lies in its mobility and capability to recognize the hand gestures regardless of the background noise.

Speech Recognition focuses on developing advanced technologies that can recognize and translate spoken language into text. Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that captures human voice from a mi-crophone and analyzes it based on spoken words to comprehend natural language. In Ethiopia, ASR models have been developed for specific local languages such as Amharic, Tigrigna, Wolaytta, and Afaan Oromo, but there has been a lack of research on ASR models for the Hadiyyisa language, which is also spoken in Ethiopia. The research study designed and developed an ASR model for the Hadiyyisa language. The researchers collected data from native speakers of the Hadiyyisa language and used Python programming to design and develop the deep learning model for the Hadiyissa ASR model. Different methods and techniques were used in the study to achieve the research objectives and complete the entire research process. The proposed model utilized deep learning algorithms including RNN, LSTM, BiLSTM, and CNN, along with suitable feature extraction techniques such as Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC). The accuracy of the proposed ASR model was evaluated through experimentation, which demonstrated that the BiLSTM model outperformed the other deep learning models with an overall accuracy of 90.95 % Based on the experimental evidence, the proposed model was found to be better suited for ASR for the Hadiyyisa language. © 2023 IEEE.

Nash Equilibria in Reverse Temporal Voronoi Games

We study Voronoi games on temporal graphs as introduced by Boehmer et al. (IJCAI’21) where two players each select a vertex in a temporal graph with the goal of reaching the other vertices earlier than the other player. In this work, we consider the reverse temporal Voronoi game, that is, a player wants to maximize the number of vertices reaching her earlier than the other player. Since temporal distances in temporal graphs are not symmetric in general, this yields a different game. We investigate the difference between the two games with respect to the existence of Nash equilibria in various temporal graph classes including temporal trees, cycles, grids, cliques and split graphs. Our extensive results show that the two games indeed behave quite differently depending on the considered temporal graph class. © 2024, CC BY.

In the case of 3D printing, the task of placing or nesting means the optimal distribution of elements in the workspace. The primary goal is to produce as many items as possible in one technological process while maintaining the desired strength and visual parameters. The task is difficult to solve, because the objects considered have different shapes, different dimensions, specific technical features (e.g. shrinkage due to heat dissipation). Also the planning process has several restrictions (e.g. height of elements in different production areas). The article presents an algorithm of intelligent packaging of items, dedicated to use in CAM systems, for manufacturing with 3D and 5D printers. The algorithm, is composed of several elements based on physical interactions: the force and torque fields and the contact and dissipative forces. Additionally, objects can modify their local force fields during interactions, depending on the technological parameterization used. An innovative solution, used in nesting algorithm, consists of the application of the invented idea called ‘profile of emotions’. This idea is a function that reduces the level of physical interactions over time. The result of profiling gives number of stable solutions, i.e. a set of proposals for packing items in the workspace. The article also includes a description of the developed software, graphical interpretation of the process and test results. In various applications in Internet of Things like industrial monitoring, large amounts of floating-point time series data are generated at an unprecedented rate. Efficient compression algorithms can effectively reduce the size of data, enhance transmission performance and storage efficiency, and simultaneously lower storage costs. Therefore, there is a need for lightweight and efficient stream compression algorithms. In this paper, we propose a novel lossless floating-point data compression algorithm called Ant. The main idea is to encode double-precision floating-point numbers into integer form, calculate the delta between adjacent values, and then convert the delta into unsigned integers. This encoding method effectively reduces storage costs and improves data compression efficiency. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that our algorithm achieves compression speeds at least as fast as state-of-the-art streaming methods, and a 63% relative improvement in average compression rate. © 2023 IEEE.

Facial expression recognition(FER)remains a hot research area among computer vision researchers and still becomes a challenge because of high intraclass *** techniques for this problem depend on hand-crafted features,namely,LBP,SIFT,and HOG,along with that a classifier trained on a database of videos or *** execute perform well on image datasets captured in a controlled condition;however not perform well in the more challenging dataset,which has partial faces and image ***,many studies presented an endwise structure for facial expression recognition by utilizing DL ***,this study develops an earthworm optimization with an improved SqueezeNet-based FER(EWOISN-FER)*** presented EWOISN-FER model primarily applies the contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization(CLAHE)technique as a pre-processing *** addition,the improved SqueezeNet model is exploited to derive an optimal set of feature vectors,and the hyperparameter tuning process is performed by the stochastic gradient boosting(SGB)***,EWO with sparse autoencoder(SAE)is employed for the FER process,and the EWO algorithm appropriately chooses the SAE ***-ranging experimental analysis is carried out to examine the performance of the proposed *** experimental outcomes indicate the supremacy of the presented EWOISN-FER technique.

In the realm of forensic science, precise identification of individuals holds paramount importance in both investigative procedures and legal proceedings. Hands and palms recognition has emerged as a valuable biometric modality within forensic applications, owing to the distinct and intricate features inherent to these anatomical regions. The elaborate patterns of veins, creases, and ridges present on palms and fingers serve as rich sources of biometric data, crucial for accurate identification purposes. Furthermore, given the frequent involvement of hands and palms in criminal activities such as theft and assault, their recognition becomes imperative for establishing links between suspects and crime scenes. However, developing robust recognition systems tailored for forensic applications poses notable challenges, including variations in hand poses, lighting conditions, and image quality. To address these hurdles, sophisticated deep learning techniques, notably transfer learning, have been employed. By harnessing pre-trained deep learning models namely NasNetLarge, NasNetMobile, and EfficientNet, initially trained on expansive datasets for general image recognition tasks, we can adapt these models to the specific task of hands and palms recognition in forensic contexts. Our findings reveal that all three models consistently achieved over 92% accuracy across all metrics evaluated, demonstrating their efficacy as strong contenders for the hands-and-palms recognition task. Notably, the EfficientNet model exhibited superior performance compared to its counterparts, boasting more than 95.8% accuracy, precision, F1-score and recall, along with more than 98.6% specificity and 99.4% AUC. © 2024 IOS Press. The advent of deep Q-learning has opened up new possibilities in training autonomous agents to perform intelligently in intricate settings. This research work examines the potential of deep Q-learning in the paradigmatic Snake game, which requires an agent to navigate a grid, ingest food items, and avoid collisions. We incorporated a partially observable game state, introducing a novel level of difficulty to the task. Our proposed approach utilizes a straightforward feed-forward neural network to estimate Q-values of potential actions, given the current state. The agent progressively learns to balance between exploration and exploitation, allowing it to navigate optimally in the game scenario. Most existing studies in deep Q-learning for the Snake game overlook the complexities posed by partial observability, focusing mainly on fully observable state representations. Furthermore, the majority of the investigations delve into the efficacy of complex neural network architectures, leaving a gap in the understanding of the performance of more simplistic feed-forward networks. Our study fills this gap by offering an in-depth exploration and analysis of deep Q-learning strategies, especially when applied to partially observable game states and simple neural networks. Simulations and results reveal that adopting simpler state representations can significantly boost the agent's performance in the Snake game. A more detailed and intricate reward function is also observed to enhance the agent's decision-making skills and overall proficiency in the game. These observations underscore the significance of optimizing state representations and reward functions for maximizing the performance of deep Q-learning agents in the Snake game. © 2023 IEEE.

PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder frequently found in women of reproductive age having a significant impact on the cause of infertility. It is an endocrine condition characterized by abnormalities in female hormone levels and aberrant synthesis of male hormones. This syndrome causes ovarian malfunction, increasing the risk of miscarriage and infertility. PCOS has a wide range of symptoms, making a diagnosis difficult. In this study, we proposed a feature selection method based on genetic algorithm with logistic regression to increase the accuracy of early diagnosis. A dataset containing the clinical and biochemical characteristics of 109 patients, including 36 with PCOS, is used. The genetic algorithm is used to extract the most important features from the dataset. Then, a logistic regression model is used for classification. The proposed model outperformed the baseline model that used all features, which had an accuracy of 86.2%, and produced a markedly improved accuracy of 95.4%. These results show that the proposed model effectively locates key characteristics for PCOS diagnosis. © 2023 IEEE.
