Federated learning (FL) is an emerging paradigm using a parameter server (PS) to coordinate multiple decentralized clients for training a common model without exposing their raw data. Despite its amazing capability in preserving data privacy, FL confronts two significant challenges that have not been sufficiently addressed by existing works, which are: 1) heterogeneous data distributed on clients given that the PS cannot alter data locations. 2) limited computation resources of FL clients who may conduct model training with mobile devices. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel federated one-shot transferring of intermediate features (FedOTF) algorithm. More specifically, FedOTF consists of two stages: feature extraction and model reconstruction. To overcome challenge 1, clients in stage 1 only collaboratively train a small model in a federated manner, with the objective to extract features. In stage 2, intermediate features (generated by the small model trained by stage 1) are transferred from clients to the PS so that a large model can be trained to overcome challenge 2. In addition, the design of FedOTF is robust, which can flexibly diminish the number of communication rounds of stage 1 when network capacity is limited, and reduce the amount of exposed features when privacy is concerned. To verify the superiority of FedOTF, we conduct comprehensive experiments with real datasets. The experiment results demonstrate that FedOTF can significantly improve the model utility of FL because a better model can be finally obtained by the PS without incurring heavy computational load on clients. Besides, we conduct robustness evaluation of FedOTF which can achieve stable performance when varying network capacity and privacy requirement. © 2023 IEEE.

Despite the significance of music genre classification in audio identification, it remains under-explored within AI research. This tool is crucial for personalized music recommendations and similar music detection. We have developed an efficient AI model that leverages Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), offering high-precision genre identification when integrated into a graphical user interface. The model effectively extracts audio features like Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs), zero-crossing rate, and tempo. Testing results reveal strong performance in genre prediction across diverse tracks, affirming the model's ability to discern unique characteristics of various music genres. This performance not only attests to the model's capability in discerning the unique characteristics inherent to different music genres but also suggests that it can effectively generalize to novel, unseen data. Our model lays the groundwork for future enhancements and demonstrates the potential of AI in transforming the music industry - from personalized music playlists to exploratory recommendation systems. The success of this model paves the way for more intricate applications of AI within music analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

YOLO has become a central real-time object detection system for robotics, driverless cars, and video monitoring applications. Developing a custom object detection solution that can detect specific objects in real-time video streams has the potential to revolutionize various fields and has been the subject of extensive research. Although there have been advances in object detection, there is still a gap in the research for real-time detection of custom objects with high accuracy and speed. This research addresses this gap by training a YOLOv8 detector on a custom dataset of objects and evaluating its performance on real-time video streams which is by far the latest model and thus is faster and more accurate. Our experimental results demonstrate that our custom-trained YOLOv8 detector achieves high accuracy and real-time performance on a custom dataset of objects. The detector achieved an overall mAP50 of 0.864 and a mAP50-95 of 0.758, with individual class results ranging from 0.47 to 0.995. These findings show that custom training data and YOLOv8 are effective in real-time object detection, which has practical applications in various fields. The significance of the results and our contribution lies in demonstrating the effectiveness of custom training data for improving object detection accuracy and speed using YOLO, which has implications for a wide range of real-world applications. © 2023 IEEE.

The fashion industry, with its myriad choices, often overwhelms consumers. Addressing this, AdaptiveCloset introduces a groundbreaking approach to tailoring clothing suggestions by harnessing the power of reinforcement learning (RL). Unlike conventional AI methodologies in a fashion that merely suggests based on past preferences, our system dynamically ad-justs using realtime user feedback, ensuring that recommendations remain relevant and personalized. Historically, AI's fusion into the fashion realm has witnessed multiple methodologies but conspicuously lacked the RL perspective. Our research stands at this juncture, aiming to redefine online shopping experiences. Through AdaptiveCloset, we envisage a scenario where online shoppers not only receive personalized recommendations but also feel a sense of involvement, thanks to the system's feedback-oriented adaptability. This responsiveness not only augments user engagement but provides actionable intelligence for businesses, bridging the gap between consumer desires and market offerings. Facial emotion detection holds significant relevance across various domains, from psychology and marketing to education and security. Despite its importance, prevalent techniques often grapple with issues like low precision, susceptibility to lighting changes, obstructions, and distinct facial characteristics. Addressing these challenges, our research embarked on devising a robust and precise facial emotion detector harnessing the potential of machine learning, focusing on convolutional neural networks (CNN). Comprehensive testing revealed that our model surpasses existing state-of-the-art techniques, showcasing superior performance on benchmark datasets. The salience of our research is underscored by its profound implications for myriad real-world applications hinging on accurate facial emotion recognition. We present an enhanced model, distinguished not just by its accuracy but also its robustness, making it apt for diverse scenarios from insightful marketing initiatives and nuanced medical diagnoses to enriched educational experiences. Through this endeavor, we have accentuated the transformative capacity of machine learning in refining and redefining facial emotion detection methodologies. © 2023 IEEE.

Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problems (CVRPs), a widely acknowledged NP-hard issue, pertains to the optimal routing of a limited-capacity vehicle fleet to fulfill customer demand, aiming for the least possible travel distance or cost. Despite the presence of numerous heuristic and exact approaches, the combinatorial characteristic of CVRP renders it challenging, especially for large-scale instances. This research provides an in-depth exploration of utilizing Genetic Algorithms (GAs) to address Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problems (CVRPs), a recognized and intricate optimization issue in the realm of logistics and supply chain management. Our paper concentrates on the innovative usage of GAs, a category of stochastic search methodologies inspired by natural selection and genetics, to grapple with CVRP. We put forth a fresh framework grounded in GA that infuses unique crossover and mutation operations tailor-made for CVRP. Our comprehensive computational trials on benchmark datasets suggest that our GA-centric method is proficient in deriving high-standard solutions within acceptable computational durations, surpassing multiple contemporary techniques concerning solution quality and resilience. Our results also underscore the scalability of our proposed approach, marking it as a viable choice for tackling extensive, real-world CVRPs. This paper enriches the current knowledge bank by demonstrating the prowess of GAs in deciphering complicated combinatorial optimization issues, thus offering a novel viewpoint for future advancements in crafting more robust and efficient CVRP resolutions. © 2023 IEEE.

The next evolution of traditional energy systems towards smart grid will require end-consumers to actively participate and make informed decisions regarding their energy usage. Industry 4.0 facilitates such progress by allowing more advanced analytics and creating means for end-consumers and distributed grid assets to be modelled as their Digital twins (DT) equivalents, paving the way for asset-level analytics. Note-worthily, consumers’ comfort is crucial towards promotion of easy adoption of such models from consumers’ perspectives. This study presents the application of hybrid DT and multiagent reinforcement learning models for real-time estimation of end-consumers future energy behaviors while generating actionable recommendation feedback for improving their energy efficiency and enhancing end-user comfort. © 2023 IEEE European Union.

Electricity consumers often face the challenge of selecting an optimal plan for saving energy. Strategic energy management and monitoring plays a key role in overcoming these challenges. Developments around Industry 5.0 powered smart grid proffers adequate solutions which allows end-consumers to monitor their energy performance towards effecting demand side recommendation services. Specific problems where end-users are likely to ignore recommended advice exists, thereby contributing to widening 'knowledge-action gap'. An ensemble of hybrid digital twins (DT) asset modelling based on ordinary differential equation (ODE) physics engine and data driven recurrent neural network (RNN) prediction approach alongside PageRank based asset behavior scoring algorithm deployed for demand side recommender and generative pre-trained transformers (GPT) based conversational chatbot technology show effectiveness in engaging and extending end-consumers interests in recommended advice. The novelty of the study lies in extending current scope of demand side recommender scheme via conversational chatbot interface for DT of electricity grid assets that better engage and monitors end-user's energy behavior while offering appropriate energy efficiency advice towards achieving energy conservation goals of smart grid consumers. Extensive experiments, including evaluation of end-user studies, revealed the effectiveness of proposed approach in terms of improved recommendation quality and user engagement towards net electricity demand reduction. © 2023 IEEE.

Traditional power system is facing challenges demanding new operational requirements to meet targets of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Aggregators are playing progressively important role in the demand response (DR) electricity market but are often riddled with deep level of market monopoly and lack of transparency/secrecy. Emerging real-time information technology (IT) applications and novel modelling of digital twins (DT) of individual electricity assets are challenging this position by promising improvements and openness that allows TSO direct access to available demand side flexibility. Additionally, DT technologies are facilitating how demand response services are delivered to end-users by allowing individual assets participation at the atomic level. In this study, the application potentials of assets’ DT in participating in the demand response electricity market was examined. Again, an overview of DT applications for DR was conducted. The novelty of this study is highlighted in development of new approach that facilitates individual end-user assets’ contribution to demand response efforts. The research identifies key useful questions that might serve as inspiration for stakeholders and policy-makers to further close existing gaps in the field of DT, smart-grid and demand response. © 2023 European Union.

Many applications need to meet diverse requirements of a large-scale distributed user *** challenges the current requirements engineering ***-based requirements engineering was proposed as an umbrella term for dealing with the requirements development in the context of the large-scale user ***,there are still many *** others,a key issue is how to merge these requirements to produce the synthesized requirements description when a set of requirements descriptions from different participants are *** techniques are needed for supporting the requirements *** are widely used in industry to represent *** paper chooses the activity diagrams and proposes a novel approach for the activity diagram synthesis which adopts the genetic algorithm to repeatedly modify a population of individual solutions toward an optimal *** a result,it can automatically generate a resulting diagram which combines the commonalities as many as possible while leveraging the variabilities of a set of input *** approach is featured by:1)the labelled graph proposed as the representation of the candidate solutions during the iterative evolution;2)the generalized entropy proposed and defined as the measurement of the solutions;3)the genetic algorithm designed for sorting out the high-quality *** cases of different scales are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the *** experimental results show that not only the approach gets high precision and recall but also the resulting diagram satisfies the properties of minimization and information preservation and can support the requirements traceability.
