The explosive growth of pervasive and diverse digital products demands the importance of addressing emotional design within the sphere of product development. As a result, there has been a significant focus from both industry and academia on studying consumer perspectives related to a wide range of pervasive and digital products, adopting a variety of methods, tools, and resources to delve into user emotional experiences. However, a comprehensive study focusing on users' emotions, incorporating a precisely defined semantic or lexicon tailored for this type of user interface (UI) product design remains elusive. Therefore, this study aims to synthesize and validate a comprehensive array of emotional keywords applicable for pervasive and digital products through an extensive literature search and a rigorous validation procedure involving language experts. The result is a meticulously refined set of 175 keywords that will serve as a valuable point of reference for all endeavors associated with evaluating and configuring the emotional structure of pervasive and digital product UI experiences. The study's findings have the potential to provide valuable guidance to industry practitioners and academic researchers, contributing to the improvement of UI design landscape and the development of new systems by enhancing their insight into users' emotional experiences through the utilization of pertinent emotional keywords in a wide range of digital and pervasive UI product designs. © 2023 IEEE.

Detecting safety helmets in complex environments is challenging due to issues like occlusion and lighting variations. Addressing the issues of slow detection speed and low object detection accuracy in complex environments with the YOLOv8 model, this paper introduces a lightweight safety helmet detection model, called PConv-YOLOv8, that is suitable for real-time applications in complex environments. Our method incorporates the PConv (Partial Convolution) module into the YOLOv8 model, reducing the complexity of the feature extraction network while enhancing feature representation accuracy. It also incorporates SimAM attention to extract and enhance the most relevant features by evaluating their similarity. Additionally, it considers category imbalance and positional regression in the target detection task, enhancing the model’s performance in target category identification and positional localization. Moreover, we propose the Wise-Distribution Focal Loss function to improve bounding box selection accuracy and enhance the model’s robustness. This paper introduces the Wise-Distribution Focal Loss method, which enhances the performance of target category recognition and location localization by improving the accuracy of bounding box selection and increasing the robustness of the overall model. The experimental results demonstrate that the method proposed in this paper achieves a 125% improvement in detection speed and a 1.8% increase in mAP0.5 compared to the YOLOv8 model.

Background and objective: Epilepsy is among the most prevalent illnesses of the central nervous system. This condition results in frequent, uncontrolled seizures that happen suddenly and are caused by a variety of trigger factors, including brain injury, physiological, genetic, etc. Involuntary spasms or distraction during seizures can cause severe bodily harm or even death for epileptics. In this paper, an effective method for accurately classifying Electroencephalogram (EEG) data for the early identification of epileptic seizures is ***: The suggested process essentially hybridizes several statistical data, discrete wavelet transformations (DWT), machine learning algorithms, and feature selection techniques independently. Through the use of DWT, the automated multi-resolution signal processing approach decomposes EEG signals into detail and approximation coefficients after splitting them into detailed parts with varying window sizes to guarantee an accurate classification performance. Statistical latent features are extracted from these coefficients that describe the nonlinear and dynamical patterns in the signals. Feature selection techniques were used to reduce the dimension of the feature matrix while highlighting the important elements. Different classifier structures were developed to classify input matrices. For all classifiers, the optimal hyperparameters were found using grid search techniques. Performance metrics for classification were calculated to assess the model's ***: In the analysis, to compare the proposed procedure with the other approaches in terms of detecting the epileptic behaviors correctly, a benchmark data set from the University of Bonn database was used. As the semiconductor manufacturing technology node scales down in the deep submicron domain, hotspot detection becomes more challenging and geo-contextually dependent than ever before. The need to profile IC layout patterns based on geometrical commonalities becomes a significant demand either during IC layout design or manufacturing phases. Identified hotspots during the manufacturing phase are usually correlated to specific geometrical configurations sensitive to the lithography process or other manufacturing processes. Accordingly, identifying similar geometrical configurations is an important step toward locating potential hotspots. Once these hotspots are identified, their patterns can be provided to the router to avoid using these patterns and find other valid alternatives. Furthermore, in the IC design sign-off phase or Design Rules Check (DRC), layout profiling can identify patterns with high commonalities to these problematic patterns that potentially lead to a yield loss. In this paper, we introduce automated IC layout patterns topological profiling approach using Directional Geometrical Kernels (DGKs) to capture the context of patterns around a Point-Of-Interest (POI) in an IC layout, such as a hotspot. The DGKs pattern representation provides a direct one-to-one mapping with physical geometrical measurements centered by the POI and doesn't need further feature extraction models or maps used by other pixelized gridded image-based or density-based representations, which are both time and computational resources-consuming. The DGKs are decomposed into topological and dimensional components. This makes the mechanism of patterns topological profiling not in need of complex models and can be precisely fine controlled to produce adequate patterns profiling granularity that is not easily approached by other patterns profiling alternatives. © 2023 SPIE.

Vertex Cover parameterized by the solution size k is the quintessential fixed-parameter tractable problem. FPT algorithms are most interesting when the parameter is small. Several lower bounds on k are well-known, such as the maximum size of a matching. This has led to a line of research on parameterizations of Vertex Cover by the difference of the solution size k and a lower bound. The most prominent cases for such lower bounds for which the problem is FPT are the matching number or the optimal fractional LP solution. We investigate parameterizations by the difference between k and other graph parameters including the feedback vertex number, the degeneracy, cluster deletion number, and treewidth with the goal of finding the border of fixed-parameter tractability for said difference parameterizations. Handwritten character recognition systems are used in every field of life nowadays,including shopping malls,banks,educational institutes,*** is the national language of Pakistan,and it is the fourth spoken language in the ***,it is still challenging to recognize Urdu handwritten characters owing to their cursive *** paper presents a Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)model to recognize Urdu handwritten alphabet recognition(UHAR)offline and online *** research contributes an Urdu handwritten dataset(aka UHDS)to empower future works in this *** offline systems,optical readers are used for extracting the alphabets,while diagonal-based extraction methods are implemented in online ***,our research tackled the issue concerning the lack of comprehensive and standard Urdu alphabet datasets to empower research activities in the area of Urdu text *** this end,we collected 1000 handwritten samples for each alphabet and a total of 38000 samples from 12 to 25 age groups to train our CNN model using online and offline ***,we carried out detailed experiments for character recognition,as detailed in the *** proposed CNN model outperformed as compared to previously published approaches.

Background: This paper examines the use of augmented reality (AR) as a concept-association tool in schools, with the aim of enhancing primary school students' learning outcomes and engagement. Conflicting findings exist in previous studies regarding the cognitive load of AR-enriched learning, with some reporting reduced load and others indicating increased demand and poorer performance. Understanding these implications is essential for effectively leveraging AR in education. The study offers a fresh perspective on the potential of AR technology in improving educational experiences. Objectives: The primary goal of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of an AR-assisted concept-association strategy for improving essential knowledge acquisition and skills outcomes, increasing cognitive load, and increasing self-efficacy and learning motivation among primary school students. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a control group was employed to investigate the effectiveness of the intervention. Results and Conclusions: The results demonstrate that the implementation of the AR-assisted concept-association strategy effectively enhanced essential knowledge acquisition and skills outcomes, increased cognitive load, and increased self-efficacy and learning motivation among primary school students. These findings highlight the potential of AR technology to improve the learning experience and engagement of primary school students. The study contributes to the existing literature on the effectiveness of AR technology in education, suggesting future research directions. Ultimately, it offers a practical solution for improving the learning experience by presenting a new approach for teaching using AR technology. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Security is one of the key challenges in container orchestration, especially in complex environments. This paper explores the security aspects of implementing containerized applications using Docker within a Kubernetes cluster. The first part of the paper describes Docker, Kubernetes, and various ways of applying them within DevOps methodology. It then presents potential vulnerabilities during the implementation of these technologies, as well as vulnerabilities specific to Docker and Kubernetes. Subsequently, some solutions for securing a Kubernetes environment are described. © 2025 IEEE.

The use of electric vehicles (EV) has exponentially grown within the past couple of years and it is expected to increase by 2050 causing a drastic increase in residential demand. Due to such an increase in demand, many existing distribution transformers servicing these residential homes may need either replacement or upgrade in their sizes to account for the home charging of these EVs. Choosing the correct economic transformer’s size helps electric utilities to benefit from such a significant capital investment. In this paper, a Smart Transformer Sizing Tool (STST) was developed to provide the correct economic size of transformers that ensure no overload as well as maintain the voltage quality. The results demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed tool are presented and conclusions are drawn.

The concept of Digital Twin has been widely used by researchers to represent physical entities in computer-generated reality in the metaverse. In this research, a novel concept of 'Mobile Twin' is coined. Mobile Twin serves as a replica of a mobile device in the virtual environment enabling communication. The purpose of introducing Mobile Twin in the metaverse is to bring mobility and benefits similar to tangible mobile devices while eliminating the need for individual energy sources, storage limitations, resource usage, and efficiency. The true benefits of a mobile twin can be achieved with an architecture where computing nodes are decentralized, data processing is near the network's edge with faster response times and reduced latency. For this purpose, the mobile twin-based applications of metaverse are built over edge computing-based network architecture. This idea introduced the aspect of 'Revolutionary Ultra-low latency (RULL)' in the metaverse. © 2024 IEEE.
