Since the information technology revolution, cryptography has been essential for protecting sensitive information and communication. A plethora of algorithms have been developed to safeguard data and protect data integrity, with the goal of improving data security and protection. Modern cryptography is based on a variety of encryption techniques, namely Hybrid cryptography and multiple cryptography. Hybrid cryptography combines asymmetric key and symmetric key encryption to combine the strengths of both. Multiple cryptography is the process of encrypting a previously encrypted message one or more times, each time using the same or a different symmetric or asymmetric algorithm. The study proposes an approach that seeks to incorporate both hybrid and multiple cryptography as a way to combine all of their benefits while also minimizing the drawbacks that each technique has on its own to provide an additional layer of security. Although these techniques have all contributed to data protection, not all of them have been successful in providing a high level of security as they have shown a propensity for being targeted and exploited over time. This research project implements a cryptosystem based on Hybrid Multiple Cryptography (HMC) which is a novel scheme for data encryption that offers a greater level of security for sending data in an Android messaging application, in order to showcase the system's security capabilities in real time. © 2023 IEEE.

Transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative games

In blockchain networks, transactions can be transmitted through channels. The existing transmission methods depend on their routing information. If a node randomly chooses a channel to transmit a transaction, the transmission may be aborted due to insufficient funds(also called balance) or a low transmission rate. To increase the success rate and reduce transmission delay across all transactions, this work proposes a transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative game *** balance, channel states, and transmission probability are fully considered. This work then presents an optimized channel transaction transmission algorithm. First, channel balances are analyzed and suitable channels are selected if their balance is sufficient. Second, a Nash equilibrium point is found by using an iterative sub-gradient method and its related channels are then used to transmit transactions. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches: Silent Whispers and Speedy Murmurs. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves transmission success rate, reduces transmission delay,and effectively decreases transmission overhead in comparison with its two competitive peers.

Parkinson's disease (PD) profoundly impacts millions in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of early detection for better patient outcomes. We introduce 'NeuraTrace PD,' an innovative application for early PD screening, combining brain MRI, hand-drawn image analysis, facial expression assessment, and voice analysis. For brain MRI analysis, we employed a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN), achieving an impressive accuracy of 91% and identifying distinct graph connectivity patterns using graph theory. We also use a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to reach 90% accuracy in analyzing hand-drawn images, while optimizing image resolution for efficiency and information retention. Facial expression analysis is a vital component, leveraging CNN and Constrained Local Models (CLM) to accurately extract Facial Action Units (FAUs), which contribute to a remarkable 95% accuracy using the XGBoost machine learning model. We introduce a Machine Learning (ML) algorithm and advanced signal processing to enhance voice feature analysis, offering a thorough understanding and classification of PD patients. It reaches 99% accuracy. In summary, our approach holds significant promise for advancing early PD diagnosis, ultimately improving the quality of life for those affected by this challenging condition. © 2023 IEEE.

Quantum search algorithms, such as the Grover algorithm, are investigated as one of the ways to solve a traveling salesman problem (TSP). In TSP, the quantum search starts from an equal superposition of all feasible solutions. The embedding cost of all feasible solutions is up to exponential, i.e., O(n!) with n cities, and makes it difficult to solve large-scale TSP. Hence, preparing the initial state of TSP at a lower embedding cost is an important issue. Here, we propose a quantum search algorithm based on the divide-and-conquer approach, which divides each constraint term of the TSP into subproblems and applies the quantum search to each subproblem. We investigate the embedding quality of all feasible solutions by comparing our proposed method with the Grover algorithm regarding optimal iterations and success probability. The results show that our quantum divide-and-conquer approach can significantly reduce the embedding cost while the success probability decreases. © 2023 IEEE.

Transportation systems primarily depend on vehicular flow on roads. Developed coun-tries have shifted towards automated signal control, which manages and updates signal synchronisation automatically. In contrast, traffic in underdeveloped countries is mainly governed by manual traffic light systems. These existing manual systems lead to numerous issues, wasting substantial resources such as time, energy, and fuel, as they cannot make real‐time decisions. In this work, we propose an algorithm to determine traffic signal durations based on real‐time vehicle density, obtained from live closed circuit television camera feeds adjacent to traffic signals. The algorithm automates the traffic light system, making decisions based on vehicle density and employing Faster R‐CNN for vehicle detection. Additionally, we have created a local dataset from live streams of Punjab Safe City cameras in collaboration with the local police authority. The proposed algorithm achieves a class accuracy of 96.6% and a vehicle detection accuracy of 95.7%. Across both day and night modes, our proposed method maintains an average precision, recall, F1 score, and vehicle detection accuracy of 0.94, 0.98, 0.96 and 0.95, respectively. Our proposed work surpasses all evaluation metrics compared to state‐of‐the‐art methodologies.

Deep learning-based hyperspectral image (HSI) compression has recently attracted great attention in remote sensing due to the growth of hyperspectral data archives. Most of the existing models achieve either spectral or spatial compression and do not jointly consider the spatio-spectral redundancies present in HSIs. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose High Fidelity Compression (HiFiC)-based models for spatio-spectral compression of HSIs. In detail, we introduce two new models: i) HiFiC using Squeeze and Excitation (SE) blocks (denoted as HiFiCsE);and ii) HiFiC with 3D convolutions (denoted as HiFiC3D) in the framework of compression of HSIs. We analyze the effectiveness of HiFiCsE and HiFiC3D in compressing the spatio-spectral redundancies with channel attention and inter-dependency analysis. Experimental results show the efficacy of the proposed models in performing spatio-spectral compression, while reconstructing images at reduced bitrates with higher reconstruction quality. The Internet of Things (IoT), like other network infrastructures, requires Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) to be protected against attacks. When deploying an IDS in IoT-based smart city environments, the balance between latency and node capacity must be considered, which justifies a distributed IDS with specific classifiers based on the location of the system processing nodes. This paper proposes a two-level classification technique for collaborative anomaly-based IDSs deployed on fog and edge nodes. A Gradient Boosting Classifier (GBC) is used in the lower layer classifier at the edge, while a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used in the upper layer classifier at the fog. Experimentation has demonstrated that the suggested IDS architecture outperforms previous solutions. For instance, in some scenarios, when comparing our proposal with Random Forest, the former obtained an accuracy equal to 99.1%, while the latter obtained 95.3%. Furthermore, our proposal can better select the most important network traffic features, reducing 76% of the data to be analyzed and improving privacy. © 2023 IEEE.

Predicting software vulnerability based on software metrics: a deep learning approach

The security of IT systems is the topmost priority of software developers. Software vulnerabilities undermine the security of computer systems. Lately, there have been a lot of reported issues of software vulnerabilities recorded in individuals and corporate systems. Software metrics-based techniques have been used and found to be effective due to low false positives and false negatives. However, there are software metrics that have not been investigated and could have an impact on the performance of the predictive model. In this study, we developed an ensemble deep learning algorithm made of LSTM, CNN, and MLP models with the non-investigated metrics as a feature to learn the latent representation of code metrics to predict anomalies in source code effectively. We trained the proposed model on the SySeVR datasets and compared the model's performance against five deep learning algorithms and four state-of-the-art SVPs. The proposed model performs better than the other deep learning with a classification accuracy of 96.17%, and a precision of 97.72%. The model's classification accuracy is 4.98% higher than that of the five deep learning models and 1.71% lower in precision than the state-of-the-art SVP. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
