Generative AI for Energy Harvesting Internet of Things Network: Fundamental, Applications, and Opportunities

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are typically powered by small-sized batteries with limited energy storage capacity, requiring regular replacement or recharging. To reduce costs and maintain connectivity in IoT networks, energy harvesting technologies are regarded as a promising solution. Notably, due to its robust analytical and generative capabilities, generative artificial intelligence (GenAl) has demonstrated significant potential in optimizing energy harvesting networks. Therefore, we discuss key applications of GenAl in improving energy harvesting IoT networks in this article. Specifically, we first review the key technologies of GenAI and the architecture of energy harvesting IoT networks. Then, we show how GenAI can address different problems to improve the performance of the energy harvesting IoT networks. Subsequently, we present a case study of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled data col-lection and energy transfer. The case study shows distinctively the necessity of energy harvesting technology and verify the effectiveness of GenAI-based methods. Finally, we discuss some import-ant open directions. © 2018 IEEE.

Optimised EfficientNet for multi-class skin cancer diagnosis: integrating chaotic grey wolf algorithms

The detection of skin cancer holds paramount importance worldwide due to its impact on global health. While deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) have shown potential in this domain, current approaches often struggle with fine-grained variability in skin lesion features, imbalanced datasets and inadequate augmentation. The objectives of our study encompass building a model that not only enhances accuracy but also reduces training time and cost, improves dimensionality reduction during classification and segmentation, and is evaluated on larger datasets for robustness. We enhance the learning process using an improved nature-inspired optimisation algorithm tailored specifically for skin cancer classification tasks. This algorithm optimises model parameters to maximise classification accuracy while minimising computational overhead. Our proposed architecture leverages a gold standard dermatological image dataset meticulously curated and validated by experts. This dataset spans eight distinct classes, including actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, nevus, and others, ensuring a diverse representation of skin conditions. The balanced class distribution in the training and test sets enables fair evaluation and robustness assessment of our deep learning models. The developed algorithm showcases novelty in its approach, contributing to advancements in early skin cancer detection technologies. This study introduces an optimised deep learning model designed for the early detection of skin cancer, achieving a notable accuracy of 97.48%. Our study aims to contribute significantly to the medical field by providing a reliable and efficient tool for dermatologists and healthcare practitioners to assist in diagnosing skin conditions accurately and promptly, ultimately improving patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency. © (2025), (Indian Academy of sciences). The Internet of Things (IoT) is pivotal in transforming the way we live and interact with our surroundings. To cope with the advancement in technologies, it is vital to acquire accuracy with the speed. A phase frequency detector (PFD) is a critical device to regulate and provide accurate frequency in IoT devices. Designing a PFD poses challenges in achieving precise phase detection, minimising dead zones, optimising power consumption, and ensuring robust performance across various operational frequencies, necessitating complex engineering and innovative solutions. This study delves into optimising a PFD circuit, designed using 90 nm standard CMOS technology, aiming to achieve superior operational frequencies. An efficient and high-frequency PFD design is crafted and analysed using cadence virtuoso. The study focused on investigating the impact of optimising PFD design. With the optimised PFD, an operational frequency of 5 GHz has been achieved, along with a power consumption of only 29 µW. The dead zone of the PFD was only 25 ps. © 2024 by the author(s).

Traffic data analysis and forecasting is a multidimensional challenge that extracts details from sources such as social media and vehicle sensor data. This study proposes a three-stage framework using Deep Learning (DL) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to enhance the end-to-end pipeline for traffic event identification and forecasting. The framework first identifies relevant traffic data from social media using NLP, context, and word-level embeddings. The second phase extracts events and locations to dynamically construct a knowledge graph using deep learning and slot filling. A domain-specific large language model (LLM), enriched with this graph, improves traffic information relevancy. The final phase integrates Allen's interval algebra and region connection calculus to forecast traffic events based on temporal and spatial logic. This framework’s goal is to improve the accuracy and semantic quality of traffic event detection, bridging the gap between academic research and real-world systems, and enabling advancements in intelligent transport systems (ITS). © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

The efficiency of silicon-based solar cells, averaging approximately 20%, requires improvements for maximum performance. This review highlights various potential techniques for enhancing the structural efficiency of solar cells from different studies conducted by researchers worldwide. The techniques evaluated include utilising a cooling system, metamaterial cell, antireflection coating, black silicon surface texturisation, multijunction cell, heterojunction cell, perovskite cell, and TOPCon, with a comparative analysis performed. Metamaterial solar cells emerge as a promising approach, demonstrating an impressive efficiency of 90% due to their ability to absorb a broad spectrum (UV to NIR). Among the surface-approach techniques, ARC is a better option in increasing efficiency by 3.3% using MgF2 and CaF2, but the small improvement gain is a concern. From an economic perspective, ARC and TOPCon are the techniques that are low-cost implementations with surface-based and structural architecture manipulation respectively. TOPCon also proves itself to be the best option among the commercially available techniques, with an efficiency of 24.58% and passivation performance that reduces shading and resistance losses. A suggestion is given on further improving efficiency by combining the techniques. The surface-based techniques are applied together with the structure-based techniques such as ARC with multijunction to bring the efficiency of around 50% combined, giving a new area to explore. In essence, this review highlights potential advanced techniques such as metamaterial cells and the collaborative integration of different techniques to significantly enhance the efficiency of a conventional solar cell which maximises its potential. © 2024 IEEE.

Visualizing the behavior of fish variants is the primary significance for obtaining biological insights in the marine ecological system. Several computer vision and machine learning-based approaches are introduced to classify the fish variants, but these require large data sets to provide high classification accuracy. Deep structured models handle these issues, but they need more attention during training time because some useful information is missed during the training process. It makes it possible to classify the fish variants inaccurately. Therefore, an automatic fish species classification system is developed to provide high accuracy and avoid misclassification results. Thus, this research work explores a new fish species classification strategy with the adoption of a hybrid deep learning technique. The acquired images are pre-processed using contrast-limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) and histogram equalization methods for cleaning and increasing the quality of images. These images are fed to the hybrid classifier known as Optimized Multi-Scale Atrous Convoluted CNN with Self-Guided Residual Attention Network (OMSACC-SGRAN). Here, the parameters of both Multi-scale Atrous Convoluted CNN and Multi-scale Self Guided Residual Attention Network are tuned using a newly recommended Marine Predators-Forensics-based Investigation inspired Algorithm (MP-FBI). Estimating the suitability of individuals for a vocation via leveraging the knowledge within cognitive factors comes with numerous applications: employment resourcing, occupation counseling, and workload management. Accordingly, the enterprises aim to hire the most suitable person from a massive array of similar applicants, maximizing performance and minimizing the gap between strategic indicators and predefined targets. While cognitive factors signify the best-suited person from similarly skilled workers, inferring pertinent latent cues from noisy and growing social network contents is time-intensive. To tackle the challenges involved, we propose a framework that, on the one hand, extends influential features based on the correlations between cognitive cues and, on the other hand, leverages a novel continuous transformer to mitigate the overlapping and approximation issues in discrete modeling. Rather than relying on discrete patterns that may evolve frequently, we use continuous elements that include not only numerous aggregating components but also sense minor irregular fluctuations. In a hybrid manner, we fuse multiple base models to transfer a higher representation to the meta-learning unit, agglomerating outputs from gradient boosters and the ConvNets. The experimental results show that our proposed framework can outperform trending vocation estimation methods by 1.36% in F1-Score and approximately 1% in accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
