Existing narrowband mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) used in disaster search and rescue (SAR) missions and tactical communications are specifically designed to enable robust unicast or broadcast voice communications. The increasing demand for add-on data services such as messaging, file and map transfer etc requires those long-range communication systems to provide higher data rates while maintaining robustness against link disturbances. Link adaptation enables wireless systems to select optimal combinations of transmission parameters based on radio channel conditions. Especially for networks with strong bandwidth limitations as investigated here, the difficulty of increasing overhead emerges, demanding for efficient parameter adaptation. The subject of this paper is the investigation of link adaptation in multi-hop scenarios focusing on highly robust end-to-end communications. Results from Monte Carlo computer simulations show that the combination of relaying and link adaptation can significantly increase the packet delivery ratio while simultaneously improving end-to-end user net throughput. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach.

Oil spills threaten marine environments, especially in ecologically sensitive regions like Qaruh Island, Kuwait. This study investigates the extent and severity of oil contamination surrounding Qaruh Island by leveraging C-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data acquired from two key satellite sources, Sentinel-1A and EOS-04, on April 23, 2024. Both satellites provided dual-polarized SAR data (HH and VV), which were analysed to enhance oil spill detection through polarization-based discrimination techniques. The analysis compared backscatter values from oil-covered and clean water surfaces to delineate the spill area accurately. Sentinel-1A and EOS-04 SAR data were pre-processed for geometric and radiometric corrections, followed by the application of filtering techniques to mitigate speckle noise and enhance detection clarity. Through this approach, we successfully detected a continuous oil spill extending over an area of approximately 20 square kilometres. The HH polarization was particularly effective in identifying the boundaries of the spill, while VV polarization contributed to confirming the presence of oil by highlighting differences in surface roughness between contaminated and uncontaminated areas. The results demonstrate that dual-polarized SAR data, specifically C-Band data, are crucial in oil spill monitoring, providing timely and accurate contamination assessments in coastal and marine environments. By utilizing Sentinel-1A and EOS-04 SAR datasets, this study underscores the effectiveness of multi-source SAR data for rapid response in environmental monitoring, ultimately supporting resource protection and mitigation efforts around Qaruh Island.

The increase of urban areas has difficulties in managing microclimate conditions in green city to improve data security, resource efficiency, and predictive accuracy. This research integrates IoT, blockchain, and AI technologies with nature-inspired solutions like Sponge City and Biophilic Design precept to tackle these challenges. The proposed model utilizes blockchain meshwork to vouch unattackable and tamper-proof data direction. The fog calculation facilitates localized data pre- processing, reduced response time and reduction in bandwidth usage. The module for predictive analytics, AI and LSTM network enhances the preciseness of mastery actions in superintend microclimates, providing significant improvements in environmental control systems. This study ensures urban sustainability and management in real-time and adaptive environmental control.

Early diagnosis and timely initiation of treatment plans for diabetes are crucial for ensuring individuals’ well-being. Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision are highly regarded for their ability to enhance the accessibility of large datasets for dynamic training and deliver efficient real-time intelligent technologies and predictable models. The application of AI and computer vision techniques to enhance the analysis of clinical data is referred to as eHealth solutions that employ advanced approaches to aid medical applications. This study examines several advancements and applications of machine learning, deep learning, and machine vision in global perception, with a focus on sustainability. This article discusses the significance of utilizing artificial intelligence and computer vision to detect diabetes, as it has the potential to significantly mitigate harm to human life. This paper provides several comments addressing challenges and recommendations for the use of this technology in the field of diabetes. This study explores the potential of employing Industry 4.0 technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision robotics, as effective tools for effectively dealing with diabetes related aspects. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

As systems based on opaque Artificial Intelligence (AI) continue to flourish in diverse real-world applications, understanding these black box models has become paramount. In response, Explainable AI (XAI) has emerged as a field of research with practical and ethical benefits across various domains. This paper not only highlights the advancements in XAI and its application in real-world scenarios but also addresses the ongoing challenges within XAI, emphasizing the need for broader perspectives and collaborative efforts. We bring together experts from diverse fields to identify open problems, striving to synchronize research agendas and accelerate XAI in practical applications. By fostering collaborative discussion and interdisciplinary cooperation, we aim to propel XAI forward, contributing to its continued success. Our goal is to put forward a comprehensive proposal for advancing XAI. To achieve this goal, we present a manifesto of 27 open problems categorized into nine categories. These challenges encapsulate the complexities and nuances of XAI and offer a road map for future research. In this note we analyse the classical longest-edge n-section algorithm applied to the simplicial partition in Rd, and prove that an infinite sequence of simplices violating the Zlámal minimum angle condition, often required in finite element analysis and computer graphics, is unavoidably produced if n ≥ 4. This result implies the fact that the number of different simplicial shapes produced by this version of n-section algorithms is always infinite for any n ≥ 4. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Cloud computing is an on-demand availability of computing resources. The current cloud computing environment uses different algorithms for its security; RC4 is one of them. However, due to the serial implementation of RC4 over cloud computing, the process of encryption and data transmission is badly affected by the factors of poor latency. This research is proposed to cover this factor by implementing a parallel RC4 algorithm in a cloud computing environment. The parallel RC4 model has been developed in web-based architecture relevant to the cloud computing environment. The method processed data simultaneously in four parallel pipelines encrypted through the RC4 algorithm. The proposed method used RC4 algorithms’ parallel implementation to encrypt and decrypt the data. The proposed method increases the efficiency of data encryption and decryption and transmission over a cloud environment using four pipelines at once. These four pipelines receive data and encrypt them using a key and then merge those four streams into a single cipher. These four pipelines enhance the speed of communication over cloud and solve the latency issue majorly. Data sending from node devices to cloud servers is divided into four equal streams and then encrypted using RC4 distinctly but parallel. Then after the roaming, the data are again first combined and then decrypted using the RC4 algorithm. The sample data sets are evaluated on the criteria of the starting time and ending time of the encryption and decryption of data. Results show that the proposed method is able to enhance the speed of the whole process up to average 3.7% due to the implementation of parallel technique and had reduced the time notably. The future work on this research involves enhancement of security process of RC4 algorithm since it can be breached easily.

This paper presents a study on the impact of the antenna cavity on the in-body propagation and ultra wideband wireless body area networks (UWB-WBAN) radio channel characteristics between the capsule endoscope and the on-body antenna. The study is conducted with CST Studio Suite simulations and one of its anatomical voxel models. A simplified capsule model and two different on-body antennas designed for low-band UWB in-body communications are used in this study. The first antenna has a smaller cavity while the second antenna has a larger cavity. The radio channel characteristics between a capsule endoscope model and an on-body antenna are evaluated with the cavity and without the cavity in frequency and time domains. Furthermore, 2D power flow representations are studied to get insight how the presence and absence of the cavity changes the signal propagation within the tissues. It is found that with the antenna having a smaller cavity, the cavity impact depends on the on-body antenna location respect to the abdominal muscle layers. Instead, the antenna having a larger cavity enables to capture multipath components from the wider area resulting in stronger signal regardless where the antenna is located.
