Video tracking and behaviour segmentation of laboratory rodents

In this paper a system for laboratory rodent video tracking and behavior segmentation is proposed. A new real-time mouse pose estimation method is proposed based on semi-automatically generated animal shape model. Behavior segmentation into separate behavior acts is considered as a signal segmentation problem using hidden Markov models (HMM). Conventional first order HMM supposes a geometric prior distribution on segment's length, which is inadequate for behavior segmentation. We propose a modification of conventional first order HMM that allows any prior distribution on segment's length. Experiments show that the developed approach can lead to more adequate results comparing to conventional HMM. © 2009 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

We investigate the conditions when the motion of a heavy ball in a helical channel takes the form of rolling or rolling with partial sliding. This problem is relevant for the manufacturing technology of unsuspended spherical laser targets being developed at the thermonuclear target laboratory at the Lebedev Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. While moving through the cryostat channel, the laser target may slide part of the way, which causes undesirable damage to its surface. We study the possible motion regimes with the objective of determining the optimal regime that minimizes the sliding length. © 2018, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

We calculate the parameters for the optimal design of a cryogenic system used to cool a HiPER laser target. The optimality criteria are minimum sliding time and maximum rolling time of the target in the system. The solution is obtained by simulating the motion of a spherical target through a curvilinear channel and constructing the set of criterion values and its Pareto boundary. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

A problem of constructing correct recognition algorithms on the basis of incorrect elementary classifiers is considered. A model of recognition procedures based on the construction of a family of logical correctors is proposed and analyzed. To this end, a genetic approach is applied that allows one, first, to reduce the computational cost and, second, to construct correctors with high recognition ability. In the paper some problems connected with a process of knowledge discovery are considered. These problems are reduced to the set cover problem. It is known that under a plausible assumption on the class N P the greedy algorithm is close to best approximate polynomial algorithms for the set cover problem solving. Unfortunately, the performance ratio of this algorithm grows almost as natural logarithm on the cardinality of covered set. Instead of usual greedy algorithm we consider greedy algorithm with threshold. This algorithm constructs a partial cover, which covers at least a fixed part (for example, 90%) of the set. We prove that the cardinality of constructed partial cover is bounded from above by a linear function on the minimal cardinality of exact cover C min. In the case of 90% -cover, for example, in the capacity of such function we can take the function 2.31,·,Cmin+1. This bound is independent of the cardinality of covered set. Notice that the concept of partial cover in context of knowledge discovery problems is very close to the concept of approximate reduct. © 2003 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

Application of neural-network methods for prediction of the job execution characteristics in multiprocessor computing systems

In recent years, the architecture of multiprocessor computing systems has become more and more complex and needs in large amounts of computations rapidly increase, together with the number of users of multiprocessor systems. Because of a large number of factors acting on the user job inside such a system, analytical approaches to solution of the job scheduling problem are very complex and expensive. This paper considers a neural-network approach to scheduling the computations in multiprocessor systems (which uses a method that predicts certain characteristics of the job execution procedure) and estimates the applicability of this approach in real conditions. Ways for increasing the accuracy of prediction are proposed. © 2007 Allerton Press, Inc.

In this paper, we consider a three-way classification approach for Russian movie reviews. All reviews are divided into groups: "thumbs up", "soso" and "thumbs down". To solve this problem we use various sets of words together with such features as opinion words, word weights, punctuation marks and polarity influencers that can affect the polarity of the following words. Besides, we estimate the maximum upper limit of automatic classification quality in this task.

These days the number of supercomputer users and the jobs they execute is rapidly growing, especially for supercomputers, providing computing time to external users. Supercomputers and their computing time are highly expensive, so their efficiency is crucial for both users and owners. There are several ways to increase operational efficiency, however, in most cases it involves a trade-off between efficiency metrics. This brings about a need to define "efficiency" in each specific case. We use the historical data from two largest Russian supercomputers to create a number of metrics in order to provide the definition of resource management "efficiency". The data from both Lomonosov and Lomonosov-2 supercomputers consists of over one year history of job executions. Lomonosov and Lomonosov-2 efficiency in terms of CPU hours utilization is considerably high, nevertheless, our global goal is to offer the way to maintain or improve this metric when maximizing others examined in the paper. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In the paper, a system of vectorization of discrete binary images is proposed, which is based on approximation of the image by a polygonal figure. On the basis of this figure, we construct continuous models of the discrete binary image, namely, boundary, skeleton, and circular models. This approach results in efficient complex analysis of the image boundary and skeleton. The system includes data structures and an XML-based language for description and storage of continuous models, as well as software for constructing representations of binary raster images and image processing and visualization. © Nauka/Interperiodica 2007.
