Medical Body Area Networks (MBANs) increasingly utilize wireless communication technologies to enhance the freedom and convenience for patients and caregivers. Currently, radio frequency (RF) is the prevalent medium in healthcare applications;however, the potential for electromagnetic interference with precision medical equipment remains a concern. This study introduces a novel design and implementation of a medical healthcare information system using the newly developed Wireless Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology, also known as Light Fidelity (Li-Fi). Visible Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), expected to soon surpass traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs as the primary light source due to their energy efficiency, facilitate this technology. In this research, patient health is monitored using sensors, with results displayed on an LCD. An LED lightbulb transmits the data as light signals, which are captured by a photo-detector at the receiver's end. This setup not only displays the output on an LCD but also alerts caregivers through an auditory signal, beeping every 15 seconds for respiration and every 30 seconds for heart rate monitoring. Moreover, these lighting fixtures serve dual functions: illumination and wireless data transmission, using the rapid switching capability of LEDs. This prototype VLC-based system offers a promising alternative for data services and monitoring in hospital areas where RF use is restricted. © 2024 IEEE.

The emergence of single-cell multi-omics sequencing technology has enabled the simultaneous profiling of diverse omics data within individual cells. It offers a more comprehensive perspective on cellular phenotypes and heterogeneity. However, single-cell multi-omics data are inherently high-dimensional and heterogeneous. Due to technical limitations and scarce starting materials, the data are often affected by noise and dropout effects. To address these challenges, we propose a novel multitask driven multi-level dynamical fusion algorithm for single-cell multi-omics cell type annotation, named scMMDyn. Our approach incorporates reconstruction and classification auxiliary tasks to guide the training of trustworthy modules at both the feature and modality levels. It executes dynamical fusion during these stages and finally achieves cross-modality fusion via an attention mechanism. This method effectively mitigates data quality issues through reconstruction tasks and feature-level dynamical fusion while providing interpretability at both feature and modality levels. Experimental results across diverse single-cell multi-omics datasets show that our method surpasses existing approaches in cell type annotation. © 2024 IEEE.

In order to explore the impact of pipe diameter, bend-diameter ratio and bend angle on the erosion of slurry pipe, a numerical simulation method approach grounded in Computational Fluid Dynamics-Dense Discrete Phase Model(CFD-DDPM)is proposed. Firstly, the geometric models of bends with different pipe diameters, bend-diameter ratios, and bend angles are constructed;secondly, the slurry pipe erosion model based on Dense Discrete Phase Model(DDPM) is constructed;then, model validation is conducted on the slurry pipe erosion model to affirm the accuracy of the model;finally, the computational fluid dynamics method is employed to simulate the erosion and wear behavior of the pipeline, to investigate the impact of pipe diameter, bend-diameter ratio and bend angle on the erosion and wear of the slurry pipeline. At the same time, gray correlation analysis was also used to analyze the significant relationship between the three pipeline factors and erosion and wear. The results show that the main erosion area is not determined, with the change of the pipeline parameters, the most serious erosion area will move;the effect of different pipeline parameter variations on the erosion rate is different, in which the pipe diameter of the largest impact, the second largest bend-diameter ratio, the smallest impact of the bend angle. Therefore, in the design of slurry pipeline, should first consider the influence of pipe diameter factors.

control structures governing distributed generation sources (DGSs), utilized in microgrids, have to provide several important functionalities and generally secure stable network operation. The large majority of these control structures are based either on droop (or droop-derived) or other, more advanced, control paradigms. The former are overly simplistic and necessitate control layerization and many extensions for the overall control structure to be applicable in the general case. The latter are either too complex or application-specific, rendering them unfit to be adopted as a general tool for controlling DGSs in microgrids. The control scheme derived in this paper is based on a goal function that simultaneously secures safe and stable operation, respecting voltage amplitude and frequency limits, and precise active power exchange. As such, the proposed control scheme integrates what is traditionally called primary and secondary control of microgrids and enables reliable peer-to-peer power exchange. The control scheme was tested using simulation tools and together with the simulation results, a performance analysis is provided.

The main topic of this article is uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in railway applications, focusing on the power factor correction (PFC) stage of UPS and its interaction with overvoltages and energy strikes. The PFC topology used in this article is a two-phase interleaved DC/DC boost converter with diode bridge rectifier connected to the 25 kV, 50 Hz contact line via 25 kV/0.23 kV transformer. Since overvoltages and energy strikes can occur in the contact line due to thyristor locomotive commutation or self-induction, these interferences can disturb the normal operation of the PFC module and in some cases even destroy the module. A simulation model of the PFC is created, tested with simulated overvoltages, and three modifications/improvements to the existing topology are proposed. ©2021 IEEE.

This paper describes non-isolated high step-down converters used to connect photovoltaic modules to the battery storage of a bicycle charging station. Due to the high voltage difference between input and output, some problems may occur with conventional non-isolated DC-DC buck converters. The characteristics of alternative topologies of high step-down converters have been explored. Ideal converter models were created in the PLECS simulation software package based on which the voltage and current stress of the semiconductor switches were determined. Based on measured voltage and current relations, commercial switches were selected. Based on catalogue data, electro-thermal models of the switches were created. A comparative analysis of converters based on conduction and switching losses was performed. Converters were also compared based on the number of components and complexity of control. ©2021 IEEE.

CT examination utilizes computational functions to achieve tomography of the human body based on the basic characteristics of X-rays, thereby unavoidably producing ionizing radiation that can cause damage to the human body. So, it is not applicable to pregnant women and children;Repeated exposure to CT irradiation in a short period of time may cause leukocytosis, fatigue, dizziness, vomiting and other symptoms. In particular, pregnant women, neonates and patients with extreme weakness are more likely to develop malformation, cancers and other adverse effects after exposure to radiation. However, endoscopic examination will induce physical damage to a certain extent, leading to potential risks of inflammation, and its process will cause fear and discomfort to patients, among which children are more likely to show fear than adults. In addition, there are many practical operation problems for endoscopic examination. So, it is not an ideal method. The medical infrared thermal imaging instrument adopts the high-tech infrared detection technology, which has no radiation and does not touch the human body. When the human body is diseased, the heat balance of the diseased part will also be destroyed. The infrared thermal imaging captures this imbalance based on the infrared rays from the human body to form an infrared thermogram, which reflects the temperature characteristics of the human body and thus will not harm the human body. The instrument has now already passed the clinical verification. Infrared thermography can well reflect the presentation of sinusitis, especially performs well in distinguishing whether the inflammation is acute or chronic. And the expression on infrared thermography is better than CT. Combined with artificial intelligence imaging algorithms, it can achieve feature analysis at the level of a single pixel and provide doctors with more detailed and accurate reference data, so as to implement efficient auxiliary diagnosis. Autonomous, Mobile Manipulation in a Wall-building Scenario: Team LARICS at MBZIRC 2020

In this paper we present our hardware design and control approaches for a mobile manipulation platform used in Challenge 2 of the MBZIRC 2020 competition. In this challenge, a team of UAVs and a single UGV collaborate in an autonomous, wall-building scenario, motivated by construction automation and large-scale robotic 3D printing. The robots must be able, autonomously, to detect, manipulate, and transport bricks in an unstructured, outdoor environment. Our control approach is based on a state machine that dictates which controllers are active at each stage of the Challenge. In the first stage our UGV uses visual servoing and local controllers to approach the target object without considering its orientation. The second stage consists of detecting the object’s global pose using OpenCV-based processing of RGB-D image and point-cloud data, and calculating an alignment goal within a global map. The map is built with Google Cartographer and is based on onboard LIDAR, IMU, and GPS data. Motion control in the second stage is realized using the ROS Move Base package with Time-Elastic Band trajectory optimization. Visual servo algorithms guide the vehicle in local object-approach movement and the arm in manipulating bricks. To ensure a stable grasp of the brick’s magnetic patch, we developed a passively-compliant, electromagnetic gripper with tactile feedback. Our fully-autonomous UGV performed well in Challenge 2 and in post-competition evaluations of its brick pick-and-place algorithms. © 2022, CC BY-SA.

Finite-difference time-domain is a numerical method used for modelling of computational electrodynamics. The method is resource intensive, especially regarding memory usage since multiple memory accesses are required per single computation. In other words, memory, or more precisely its speed, is a limiting factor for the overall performance. Existing solutions focus either on structures with great parallelism such as graphical processing units or custom designs. The former have issues with underutilized resources, while the latter require significant time and effort to achieve similar or slightly better performances. The approach taken during this research was to target the memory itself and find a way to improve the efficiency of memory usage across multiple platforms. The main contribution of the paper is using block floating-point in a novel way regarding the finite-difference time-domain method. The presented solution is a verification of earlier research, proving that the performance of this algorithm can indeed be improved using the suggested methods.
