Currently, screen content video applications are increasingly widespread in our daily lives. The latest Screen Content Coding (SCC) standard, known as Versatile Video Coding (VVC) SCC, employs screen content Coding Modes (CMs) selection. While VVC SCC achieves high coding efficiency, its coding complexity poses a significant obstacle to the further widespread adoption of screen content video. Hence, it is crucial to enhance the coding speed of VVC SCC. In this paper, we propose a fast mode and splitting decision for Intra prediction in VVC SCC. Specifically, we initially exploit deep learning techniques to predict content types for all CUs. Subsequently, we examine CM distributions of different content types to predict candidate CMs for CUs. We then introduce early skip and early terminate CM decisions for different content types of CUs to further eliminate unlikely CMs. Finally, we develop Block-based Differential Pulse-Code Modulation (BDPCM) early termination to improve coding speed. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can improve coding speed by $34.95 \%$ on average while maintaining almost the same coding efficiency.

We propose a latent multi-view subspace clustering model based on Laplacian regularized representation. To emphasize the information of the representation matrix at the local level and reflect the grouping effect of clustering, a Laplacian regularization is imposed on the representation matrix. Additionally, To boost the efficiency o f c lustering, we apply nonnegative constraints on the representation matrix. A unified framework is designed to solve the proposed model by using ALM and LADMAP methods. The proposed model has excellent performance, as demonstrated by a number of experimental findings.

Semiconductor photocatalysis technology for environmental remediation faces primary challenges, such as charge-carrier recombination and interfacial charge transfer inhibition, which affect its degradation efficiency in removing organic contaminants. In this work, we successfully synthesized a unique Z-scheme KNbO3/ZnIn2S4 hollow core-shell microsphere via combined hard template, thermal treatment, and hydrothermal processes as the photocatalyst for ciprofloxacin (CIP) remediation under sunlight irradiation. Compared to the pure KNbO3 and ZnIn2S4, our optimized 15-KNbO3/ZnIn2S4 composite exhibited enhanced photodegradation performance with up to 97.8% CIP removal within 1.5 h. At the KNbO3/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction interface, the composite developed its internal electric field and enhanced its photoabsorption under visible light region, thus boosting its charge separation. Subsequently, we systematically investigated the Z-scheme charge migration process within the heterojunction with a series of experiments. Our results indicated that the hydroxyl and superoxide radicals were the dominant active species during photocatalysis. The composite also could achieve excellent stability and adaptability. We also managed to identify the CIP-degraded intermediates and deduce their possible degradation pathways. Lastly, our toxicity analysis revealed that CIP toxicity could decrease gradually during photocatalysis. In this work, we presented a unique method for preparing inexpensive and highly efficient Z-scheme hollow core-shell structure photocatalysts with excellent antibiotic remediation in water under simulated sunlight illumination. © 2023, The Authors. With the rapid development of technology and the proliferation of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), there is an immediate need for security solutions. Toward this end, we propose the use of a multi-robot system for autonomous and cooperative counter-UAS missions. In this paper, we present the design of the hardware and software components of different complementary robotic platforms: a mobile uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) equipped with a LiDAR sensor, an uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) with a gimbal-mounted stereo camera for air-to-air inspections, and a UAV with a capture mechanism equipped with radars and camera. Our proposed system features 1) scalability to larger areas due to the distributed approach and online processing, 2) long-term cooperative missions, and 3) complementary multimodal perception for the detection of multirotor UAVs. In field experiments, we demonstrate the integration of all subsystems in accomplishing a counter-UAS task within an unstructured environment. The obtained results confirm the promising direction of using multi-robot and multi-modal systems for C-UAS.

Some typical oscillations relate to nonlinear pendulums, population models, business cycles, and jerk systems [5]. Since the discovery of chaotic oscillations in a nonlinear weather model by Lorenz in 1963, chaotic oscillators, their modelling, and control have received much attention in the literature [1]. [...]the MATLAB simulation results of the buck converter with memristive load are shown to be in good agreement with the analog results obtained with PSIM. [...]the authors describe simulation results for an example of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) with three degrees of freedom to demonstrate the efficacy of the suggested control approach in their research article. A unique feature of the proposed model is that the designed Chen chaotic oscillation system is integrated in a single chip with the advantages of smaller chip area, lower supply voltage, and power consumption.

This paper presents a novel approach for head tracking in augmented reality (AR) flight simulators using an adaptive fusion of Kalman and particle filters. This fusion dynamically balances the strengths of both algorithms, leveraging Kalman filters for computational efficiency and particle filters for handling non-linearities based on real-time factors such as sensor noise and head movement patterns. Our method demonstrates superior tracking precision and reduced latency, making it particularly effective for immersive pilot training in AR-based flight simulations. While focused on flight simulation, our approach holds high potential for broader applications in other AR and virtual reality (VR) environments where precise, real-time head tracking is crucial. These results provide actionable design guidance for developers optimizing tracking systems in environments that require fast response times and high accuracy. Future extensions of this research could explore the generalization of our approach across diverse AR applications, including human-computer interaction (HCI), medical simulations, and gaming. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

Research into the engineering of infrastructure systems is increasingly data intensive. Researchers build computational models to explore scenarios such as investigating the merits of infrastructure plans, analysing historical data to inform system operations or assessing the impacts of infrastructure on the environment. Models are more complex, at higher resolution and with larger coverage. Researchers also require a 'multi-systems' approach to explore interactions between systems, such as energy and water with urban development, and across scales, from buildings and streets to regions or nations. Consequently, researchers need enhanced computational resources to support cross-institutional collaboration and sharing at scale. The Data and Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure (DAFNI) is an emerging computational platform for infrastructure systems research. It provides high-throughput compute resources so larger data sets can be used, with a data repository to upload data and share these with collaborators. Users' models can also be uploaded and executed using modern containerisation techniques, giving platform independence, scaling and sharing. Further, models can be combined into workflows, supporting multi-systems modelling and generating visualisations to present results. DAFNI forms a central resource accessible to all infrastructure systems researchers in the UK, supporting collaboration and providing a legacy, keeping data and models available beyond the lifetime of a project. © 2023 Emerald Publishing Limited: All rights reserved.

Bioimpedance is a commonly used method for various conditions monitoring. In this paper, the authors carried out some research where they implemented various smoothing filters to enable identification of the bioimpedance spectroscopy parameters. The proposed filtering methods may also be used for application on embedded systems, which have smaller computing power but have become recently very popular. The obtained results with the implementation of smoothing filters were promising, however, some of the obtained results were unsatisfactory. This work also contains a brief introduction to bioimpedance spectroscopy and smoothing filters.

The impact of irrational behaviours in the optional prisoner’s dilemma with game-environment feedback

In the optional prisoner’s dilemma (OPD), players can choose to cooperate and defect as usual, but can also abstain as a third possible strategy. This strategy models the players’ participation in the game and is a relevant aspect in many settings, e.g. social networks or opinion dynamics where abstention is an option during an election. In this paper, we provide a formulation of the OPD where we consider irrational behaviours in the population inspired by prospect theory. Prospect theory has gained increasing popularity in recent times thanks to its ability to capture aspects such as reference dependence or loss aversion which are common in human behaviour. This element is original in our formulation of the game and is incorporated in our framework through pairwise comparison dynamics. Recently, the impact of the environment has been studied in the form of feedback on the population dynamics. Another element of novelty in our work is the extension of the game-environment feedback to the OPD in two forms of dynamics, the replicator and the pairwise comparison. The contribution of this paper is threefold. First, we propose a modelling framework where prospect theory is used to capture irrational behaviours in an evolutionary game with game-environment feedback. Second, we carry out the stability analysis of the system equilibria and discuss the oscillating behaviours arising from the game-environment feedback. Finally, we extend our previous results to the OPD and we discuss the main differences between the model resulting from the replicator dynamics and the one resulting from the pairwise comparison dynamics. © 2021, CC BY.
