Photometric stereo represents a sophisticated technique utilized to capture high-fidelity surface textures and morphologies under varying illumination angles, with substantial applications in fields such as quality assurance and cultural heritage preservation. However, contemporary implementations often grapple with challenges in achieving high-precision measurements that are both economically feasible and conducive to real-time processing. To address these challenges, we propose a Dual-Scale Feature Fusion (DSFF) photometric stereo network coupled with a Shadow-Fusing Supervised (SFS) training strategy. By aggregating dual-scale features and effectively leveraging shadow-occluded regions, the proposed approach overcomes limitations of existing techniques, enabling low-cost, real-time, and high-precision measurement of complex morphologies across diverse materials. Experimental results on four authoritative public datasets demonstrate that our methods outperform nearly 30 state-of-the-art approaches in key metrics such as measurement accuracy, memory consumption, and inference time. These results highlight the breakthrough improvements and the immense potential for application in various fields. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Programming is a skill needed across various disciplines and it is becoming more valuable for many job positions. However, students still appear to struggle in introductory programming courses. Academic achievement in programming may be influenced by numerous factors and may vary across countries, as observed in a previous study focused on Portugal and Serbia. In the present study, factors generally related to achievement and attrition, namely student entrance knowledge, expectations, and motivation, were examined as possible reasons behind achievement issues in introductory programming. An anonymous questionnaire that comprised closed-ended items was given to students enrolled in introductory programming courses at technically oriented higher education institutions in Portugal and Serbia. After data cleansing, response data from 678 students were quantitatively analysed to identify overall characteristics of the investigated groups, as well as differences between the groups from the two countries. The students generally had numerous expectations and motives regarding introductory programming, but their reported entrance knowledge of programming was generally at low levels. on average, the groups from the two countries were similar. The main differences include higher entrance knowledge for students from Serbia and slightly higher expectations for students from Portugal. These findings form a basis for further inquiry into causes of previously observed student performance variations between Portugal and Serbia. As there are many commonalities between the students from these countries, we may work on novel instruction methods and tools that would be useful for programming teachers and enrolled students in both countries. © 2020 SEFI 47th Annual Conference: Varietas Delectat... This paper addresses the problem of retrieving an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The design of the compliant net that naturally adapts to the payload morphology is proposed as a retrieval tool. We constructed the proposed compliant net and conducted experiments with an underwater vehicle model as payload. Furthermore, mathematical model of a system comprised of the UAV and the payload is presented and a mid-ranging controller is utilized for such a system. We also present simulation results and analyze the stability of the UAV with the cable attached payload. © 2018

Calibration of simulation system is an important step to establish a reliable simulation system. In this paper, based on the existing mean field calibration theory, a new fast calibration method for complex urban traffic system based on mean field method is discussed by establishing the relationship between the macroscopic observation quantity and the proxy microscopic parameters. This method makes use of the machine learning method, and reduces the dimension of the state vector in the discrete time period, so that the dimension of the macroscopic state transition matrix is lower, and then reduces the computational complexity of the system calibration. Finally, the calibration results of the simulation system were verified by SUMO traffic simulation software.

Water pollution caused by the massive use of medicines has caused major environmental problems. This work first reported the synthesis and characterization of the Cu7S4/CuCo2O4 (CS/CCO) yolk-shell microspheres via hydrothermal and annealing methods, then investigated their photocatalytic performance in removing organic water pollutants. The 10-CS/CCO composite with yolk-shell microspheres exhibited the highest photodegradation rate of carbamazepine (CBZ), reaching 96.3% within 2 h. The 10-CS/CCO also demonstrated more than 2 times higher photodegradation rates than the pure (Cu7S4) CS and (CuCo2O4) CCO. This outstanding photocatalytic performance can be attributed to the unique yolk-shell structure and the Z-scheme charge transfer pathway, reducing multiple reflections of the acting light. These factors enhanced the light absorption efficiency and efficiently transferred photoexcited charge carriers. In-depth photocatalytic degradation pathways of CBZ were systematically evaluated via the identification of degradation intermediates with Fukui index calculation. © 2022, The Authors. With the substantial growth of logistics businesses the need for larger and more automated warehouses increases, thus giving rise to fully robotized shop-floors with mobile robots in charge of transporting and distributing goods. However, even in fully automatized warehouse systems the need for human intervention frequently arises, whether because of maintenance or because of fulfilling specific orders, thus bringing mobile robots and humans ever closer in an integrated warehouse environment. In order to ensure smooth and efficient operation of such a warehouse, paths of both robots and humans need to be carefully planned;however, due to the possibility of humans deviating from the assigned path, this becomes an even more challenging task. Given that, the supervising system should be able to recognize human intentions and its alternative paths in real-time. In this paper, we propose a framework for human deviation detection and intention recognition which outputs the most probable paths of the humans workers and the planner that acts accordingly by replanning for robots to move out of the human's path. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework increases total number of deliveries, especially human deliveries, and reduces human-robot encounters. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. As a new technology with subversive significance in the Internet field, blockchain has received extensive attention from research and applications sector in recent years. Its decentralized structure and unchangeable data nature have a wide application prospect in Internet transactions. However, it is difficult to implement supervision in a partially decentralized system. Therefore, a blockchain system with a single or a few central nodes has emerged during the development of blockchain. For such special partially decentralized blockchain systems, more scientific development is needed. This paper takes X insurance trading chain as an example to study this partially decentralized blockchain system, to make a more scientific security assessment of this kind of system, and put forward corresponding countermeasures to improve the security of this kind of system. © 2019 IEEE.

In July 2023,the Center of Excellence in Respiratory Pathogens organized a two-day workshop on infectious diseases modelling and the lessons learnt from the Covid-19 *** report summarizes the rich discussions that occurred during the *** workshop participants discussed multisource data integration and highlighted the benefits of combining traditional surveillance with more novel data sources like mobility data,social media,and wastewater *** advancements were noted in the development of predictive models,with examples from various countries showcasing the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence in detecting and monitoring disease *** role of open collaboration between various stakeholders in modelling was stressed,advocating for the continuation of such partnerships beyond the pandemic.A major gap identified was the absence of a common international framework for data sharing,which is crucial for global pandemic ***,the workshop underscored the need for robust,adaptable modelling frameworks and the integration of different data sources and collaboration across sectors,as key elements in enhancing future pandemic response and preparedness.

Buffer overflow attacks are a persisting security threat in C programs. The C Standard library provides functions for string handling that lack any bound checks. This paper presents astatic approach for buffer overflow detection by identifying the likely vulnerabilities through an analysis of the source code. We defined a set of predicates, based on the function's specifications, that determine whether the operation is safe or not. This paper describes an implementation of the approach as an extension of HIP/SLEEK, an automated verification system basedon the separation logic. The static buffer overflow detector proved to have good results even in tricky cases, such as pointer aliasing and overlapping memory. © 2018 IEEE.
