An accurate understanding of a self-driving vehicle’s surrounding environment is crucial for its navigation system. To enhance the effectiveness of existing algorithms and facilitate further research, it is essential to provide comprehensive data to the routing system. Traditional approaches rely on installing multiple sensors to simulate the environment, leading to high costs and complexity. In this paper, we propose an alternative solution by generating a top-down representation of the scene, enabling the extraction of distances and directions of other cars relative to the ego vehicle. We introduce a new synthesized dataset that offers extensive information about the ego vehicle and its environment in each frame, providing valuable resources for similar downstream tasks. Additionally, we present an architecture that transforms perspective view RGB images into bird’s-eye-view maps with segmented surrounding vehicles. This approach offers an efficient and cost-effective method for capturing crucial environmental information for self-driving cars. 1 © 2023, CC BY.

This paper proposes a three-dimensional (3D) geometry-based channel model to accurately represent intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS)-enhanced integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) networks using rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) in practical urban environments. Based on this model, we formulate an energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem that incorporates transceiver beamforming constraints, IRS phase adjustments, and quality-of-service (QoS) requirements to optimize communication and sensing functions. To solve this problem, we use the proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm within a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework. Our numerical results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in improving EE and satisfying QoS requirements. Towards Depth-continuous Scene Representation with Displacement Field for Robust Light Field Depth Estimation

The light field (LF) captures both the spatial and angular information of scenes, enabling accurate depth estimation. However, previous deep learning methods typically model surface depth only while ignoring the continuous nature of depth in 3D scenes. In this paper, we use the displacement field (DF) to describe this continuous property, and propose a novel depth-continuous scene representation for robust LF depth estimation. Experiments demonstrate that our representation enables the network to generate highly detailed depth maps with fewer parameters and faster speeds. Specifically, inspired by the signed distance field in 3D object descriptions, we aim to exploit the intrinsic depth-continuous property of 3D scenes via DF and define a novel depth-continuous scene representation. Then, we introduce a simple, yet general, learning framework for depth-continuous scene embedding, and the proposed network, DepthDF, achieves state-of-the-art performance on both synthetic and real-world LF datasets, ranking 1st on the HCI 4D light field benchmark. Furthermore, previous LF depth estimation methods can also be seamlessly integrated into this framework. Finally, we extend this framework beyond LF depth estimation to various tasks, including multiview stereo depth inference, LF superresolution, and LF salient object detection. Our experiments demonstrate an improved performance when continuous scene representation is applied, suggesting that our framework can potentially provide insights for more fields. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

Accurate segmentation of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) lesions in longitudinal MRI scans is crucial for monitoring disease progression and treatment efficacy. Although changes across time are taken into account when assessing images in clinical practice, most existing deep learning methods treat scans from different timepoints separately. Among studies utilizing longitudinal images, a simple channel-wise concatenation is the primary albeit suboptimal method employed to integrate timepoints. We introduce a novel approach that explicitly incorporates temporal differences between baseline and follow-up scans through a unique architectural inductive bias called Difference Weighting Block. It merges features from two timepoints, emphasizing changes between scans. We achieve superior scores in lesion segmentation (Dice Score, Hausdorff distance) as well as lesion detection (lesion-level F1 score) as compared to state-of-the-art longitudinal and single timepoint models across two datasets. Cyber Physical Social Intelligence (CPSI) integrates the social intelligence and cyber-physical systems, enabling machines to better interact and respond to human social behaviors. Under CPSI, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) has given rise to an increasing number of latency-sensitive services. Edge computing, as a distributed computing paradigm, enhances data processing capabilities, reduces data transmission latency, and minimizes bandwidth consumption. However, due to the limited resources of edge servers, striking a balance between service latency and deployment costs remains a highly challenging issue in the process of service deployment. In this paper, we propose a heterogeneous edge service deployment method for CPSI in IoV. Firstly, considering the heterogeneity of IoV services and edge servers, communication model, computational model, and heterogeneous service deployment cost model are constructed. Secondly, to maximize service deployment efficiency and minimize communication latency, a distance and workload-based edge server cluster division method is proposed. Subsequently, heterogeneous service deployment is performed in different clusters based on service category prioritization and minimal deployment quantity prioritization principles. Furthermore, an Analytic hierarchy process-based Heterogeneous edge Service dePloyment algorithm for CPSI in IoV, named AHSP, has been designed to determine optimal service deployment strategies. The seedling stage is important in the growth and development of maize, and it is also a critical period that affects maize yield and quality. Accurately recognizing this stage of maize is challenging, as current maize seedling detection methods struggle with small sizes and complex environments. This paper proposes a rapid maize seedling detection method that emphasizes spatial feature extraction in the receptive field and cross-dimensional interaction - receptive field triplet attention YOLO (RFT-YOLO). First, we design a convolutional module for cross-dimensional information interaction within the receptive field. Second, we introduce an advanced selective fusion network, which boosts the multi-scale fusion capability of small object features while reducing the GFLOPs of the model. Additionally, we employ Inner-IoU to diminish sensitivity to positional biases of small objects and expedite the convergence of the loss function. Finally, we create a dataset of maize seedlings to conduct our experiments. Experimental results demonstrate that the RFT-YOLO significantly enhances performance, reducing the number of parameters by 35.3% and GFLOPs by 14.24%, compared to the baseline model. Moreover, the mean average precision (mAP) improves from 89.6% to 91.5%. These improvements confirm the model's effectiveness in detecting maize seedlings. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, research has illuminated the potency of implicit data processing in enhancing user preferences. Nevertheless, barriers remain in breaking through the constraints of implicit information. This study aims to bridge this gap by firstly constructing a triangular stable node network model, tailored to manage implicit information with precision. Recognizing the challenge of pinpointing novel structures within large-scale graphs, we propose SLTSNN-a triangular stable node network based on self-supervised learning for personalized prediction. SLTSNN innovates by maximizing mutual information between graph-level and patch-level representations, while augmenting graph representations through extended enhanced representations. Additionally, it incorporates triangular data associations and introduces a triangular allocation attention network, which emphasizes strongly correlated preference features among similar users. Furthermore, SLTSNN employs contrastive learning to maximize mutual information between graph vectors and hidden representations, distinguishing between high-order global and local representations. The model's effectiveness in enhancing user preferences and capturing new graph structures is evidenced by its performance on hit rate and normalized discounted cumulative gain metrics across three datasets. © 2025 IEEE.

Privacy-Aware Edge Computation Offloading With Federated Learning in Healthcare Consumer Electronics System

The continuous iteration of consumer electronics has significantly promoted the development of medical devices, which has enabled the collection of large amounts of heterogeneous medical data. These data are offloaded from local devices to cloud servers for processing using traditional methods, which results in high transmission latency and the risk of privacy leakage. Additionally, researchers have employed federated learning to protect data privacy, but this approach can lead to a straggler effect due to the limited computational and communication resources of terminal devices. To address these issues, a computation offloading framework is designed to optimize task and resource allocation, addressing multi-optimization problems and mitigating the straggler effect in federated learning. Moreover, a novel computation offloading method within a federated learning framework assisted by edge computing, named DRWB, is proposed. Specifically, we develop a deep reinforcement learning-based approach to transfer lagging training tasks to idle edge servers, enhancing data processing speed, minimizing transmission delays, and protecting user privacy. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the DRWB method outperforms baseline methods, showcasing superior performance in handling heterogeneous medical data tasks. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Federated learning (FL) is an emerging machine learning paradigm for preserving data privacy. However, diverse client hardware often has varying computation resources. Such system heterogeneity limits the participation of resource-constrained clients in FL, and hence degrades the global model accuracy. To enable heterogeneous clients to participate in and contribute to FL training, previous works tackle this problem by assigning customized sub-models to individual clients with model pruning, distillation, or low-rank based techniques. Unfortunately, the global model trained by these methods still encounters performance degradation due to heterogeneous sub-model aggregation. Besides, most methods are heuristic-based and lack convergence analysis. In this work, we propose the FedLMT framework to bridge the performance gap, by assigning clients with a homogeneous pre-factorized low-rank model to substantially reduce resource consumption without conducting heterogeneous aggregation. We theoretically prove that the convergence of the low-rank model can guarantee the convergence of the original full model. To further meet clients' personalized resource needs, we extend FedLMT to pFedLMT, by separating model parameters into common and custom ones. Finally, extensive experiments are conducted to verify our theoretical analysis and show that FedLMT and pFedLMT outperform other baselines with much less communication and computation costs.

Diabetes mellitus, a severe and enduring condition characterized by impaired glucose metabolism, poses a substantial threat to public health. Its pervasive impact continues to escalate globally, with a rising incidence that challenges preventive measures. Despite earnest efforts, individuals struggle to evade the clutches of diabetes, necessitating innovative approaches for disease management. Traditional methodologies in diabetes health monitoring exhibit limitations, prompting the exploration of advanced techniques. This study employs machine learning (ML) methods to delve into diabetes, aiming to enhance diagnostic accuracy. The primary objective is to develop a method capable of precise diabetes diagnoses with a heightened level of precision. The investigation incorporates machine learning algorithms, specifically Random Forest (RF), K Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and Logistic Regression. The inclusion of these algorithms seeks to streamline data processing ***, this study incorporates the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) as a data augmentation strategy. SMOTE addresses imbalances in the dataset, contributing to a more robust and representative sample. The research evaluates the effectiveness and accuracy of diabetes prediction using these algorithms both before and after SMOTE implementation. By considering the impact of SMOTE, the study aims to determine the optimal algorithm for assessing diabetes development. The comparative analysis sheds light on how SMOTE enhances the overall performance of machine learning models. This nuanced approach not only refines diabetes diagnostic protocols but also underscores the significance of addressing data imbalances in predictive modeling for enhanced precision in disease prediction.
