Researchers have turned their focus on leveraging either dynamic or static features extracted from applications to train AI algorithms to identify malware precisely. However, the adversarial techniques have been continuously evolving and meanwhile, the code structure and application function have been designed in complex format. This makes Android malware detection more challenging than before. Most of the existing detection methods may not work well on recent malware samples. In this paper, we aim at enhancing the detection accuracy of Android malware through machine learning techniques via the design and development of our system called MFF-AMD. In our system, we first extract various features through static and dynamic analysis and obtain a multiscale comprehensive feature set. Then, to achieve high classification performance, we introduce the Relief algorithm to fuse the features, and design four weight distribution algorithms to fuse base classifiers. Finally, we set the threshold to guide MFF-AMD to perform static or hybrid analysis on the malware samples. Our experiments performed on more than 25,000 applications from the recent five-year dataset demonstrate that MFF-AMD can effectively detect malware with high accuracy. © 2021, ICST Institute for Computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Background: Asthma is a significant global health issue, impacting over 500,000 individuals in New Zealand and disproportionately affecting Maori communities in New Zealand, who experience worse asthma symptoms and attacks. Digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models, are increasingly popular for asthma risk prediction. However, these AI models may underrepresent minority ethnic groups and introduce bias, potentially exacerbating disparities. Objective: This study aimed to explore the views and perceptions that Maori have toward using AI and ML technologies for asthma self-management, identify key considerations for developing asthma attack risk prediction models, and ensure Maori are represented in ML models without worsening existing health inequities. Methods: Semistructured interviews were conducted with 20 Maori participants with asthma, 3 male and 17 female, aged 18-76 years. All the interviews were conducted one-on-one, except for 1 interview, which was conducted with 2 participants. Altogether, 10 web-based interviews were conducted, while the rest were kanohi ki te kanohi (face-to-face). A thematic analysis was conducted to identify the themes. Further, sentiment analysis was carried out to identify the sentiments using a pretrained Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers model. Results: We identified four key themes: (1) concerns about AI use, (2) interest in using technology to support asthma, (3) desired characteristics of AI-based systems, and (4) experience with asthma management and opportunities for technology to improve care. AI was relatively unfamiliar to many participants, and some of them expressed concerns about whether AI technology could be trusted, kanohi ki te kanohi interaction, and inadequate knowledge of AI and technology. Various deep learning techniques have been employed to diagnose dental caries using X-ray images. In this study, we utilized deep learning models, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and transfer learning models such as Visual Geometry Group (VGG16), VGG19, ResNet50, and Inception V3, to identify dental caries in periapical radiographs. The traditional CNN model comprises three sets of 2D convolutional layers, followed by an activation layer, a max-pooling layer, a flatten layer, one dense layer, another activation layer, dropout, another dense layer, and a final activation layer. For the VGG models, ResNet50, and Inception V3, the top convolutional layers were frozen to prevent retraining of the model, with only the last layers trained to produce the required output. The accuracy achieved by CNN, VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, and Inception V3 was 90%, 96%, 73%, 70%, and 73%, respectively. VGG16 exhibited the highest accuracy among the models. Hyperparameters were carefully selected using a grid search approach, and the results were validated using the Shuffle-Split-Cross (SSC) validation method. These findings underscore the effectiveness of transfer learning in analyzing medical images, particularly in the diagnosis of dental caries. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The study is concerned about the rising number of dengue cases in Pahang. As a preventive solution, an analytical dashboard is proposed to forecast the trend of dengue cases in Pahang for the next two years using Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model. Due to its efficiency to solve linear problems, ARIMA model is a popular model used by the researchers and economists to forecast a time-series data. The dashboard contains various information of dengue cases for instances the total number of dengue cases in Pahang, total number of dengue cases by district, a map that shows the green zone and the red zone which indicates the risk of the dengue infection in that area and a graph that displays the forecasted trend of dengue cases in Pahang from 2021 to 2023 using the best- fitted ARIMA model. The dashboard and the forecasted data trend of dengue is generated to assist JKN Pahang to plan a preventive measure regarding the rising number of dengue cases in thefuture.

Multimodal dialogue emotion recognition integrates data from multiple modalities to accurately identify emotional states in conversations. However, differences in expression and information density across modalities complicate the fusion of features. Traditional methods may introduce redundant information from other utterances, reducing the accuracy of emotion recognition. Existing one-hot labels often fail to capture the full range of emotional expressions, leading to biased results. To address these issues, we propose a model that fuses different modalities within the same utterance to avoid redundancy. It employs a progressive classification process, refining emotion recognition from coarse to fine granularity. Additionally, we use emotion polarity probabilities as weights for fine-grained classification and introduce a multimodal information-rich label that considers both the data and their interactions. Experiments on IEMOCAP and MELD datasets demonstrate the model’s effectiveness, significantly improving dialog emotion recognition accuracy. Our code is available at https://***/r/LOCG-188E.

Emotion AI is a research domain that aims to understand human emotions from visual or textual data. However, existing methods often ignore the influence of cultural diversity on emotional interpretation. In this paper, we propose a multimodal deep learning model that integrates cultural awareness into emotion recognition. Our model uses images as the primary data source and comments from individuals across different regions as the secondary data source. Our results show that our model achieves robust performance across various scenarios. Our contribution is to introduce a novel fusion approach that bridges cultural gaps and fosters a more nuanced understanding of emotions. Due to the best of our knowledge, few works are using this approach, for Emotion AI, combining different types of data sources and models. We evaluate our model on the ArtELingo dataset, which contains image-comment pairs with Chinese, Arabic, and English annotations. The experimental results in the evaluation phase demonstrate an impressive 80% recognition accuracy for the model that merges image-text features.

In practical applications, multi-view data depicting objectives from assorted perspectives can facilitate the accuracy increase of learning algorithms. However, given multi-view data, there is limited work for learning discriminative node relationships and graph information simultaneously via graph convolutional network that has drawn the attention from considerable researchers in recent years. Most of existing methods only consider the weighted sum of adjacency matrices, yet a joint neural network of both feature and graph fusion is still under-explored. To cope with these issues, this paper proposes a joint deep learning framework called Learnable Graph Convolutional Network and Feature Fusion (LGCN-FF), consisting of two stages: feature fusion network and learnable graph convolutional network. The former aims to learn an underlying feature representation from heterogeneous views, while the latter explores a more discriminative graph fusion via learnable weights and a parametric activation function dubbed Differentiable Shrinkage Activation (DSA) function. Clothes are products that follow short-life fashion and market demand. Products with a short lifetime occur due to technological developments and/or changes in market tastes. The clothing industry is one of the industries that has a short and obsolete sales period in stages. The excess number of products that accumulate in the warehouse due to obsolescence can cause the company to get a profit that is not optimal. One strategy to increase demand for the product is to apply discounts. There are two types of discounts used, namely a single discount and multiple discounts. The demand function of inventory model is considered analogous to the logistic growth model. The identification of psychological stress and disorders like panic attacks and anxiety is vital for improving mental health care. This study investigates the use of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals to predict these conditions, leveraging three deep learning models: a feedforward neural network, a transformer-based model, and a hybrid convolutional neural network (CNN)-long short-term memory network (LSTM). Performance metrics, including accuracy, F1 score, precision, recall, RMSE, and R-squared, were used for evaluation. The feedforward model achieved accuracies of 95.42% and 95.66% for predicting panic and anxiety attacks, respectively, while the transformer-based model also delivered promising results. Notably, the CNN-LSTM hybrid model outperformed the others, achieving 95.90% accuracy for anxiety prediction and excelling in stress level estimation with an RMSE of 0.1671 and an R-squared value of 0.9438. These findings demonstrate the hybrid model's efficacy in predicting psychological conditions and estimating stress levels. This approach holds significant promise for improving mental health assessments, early interventions, and treatment strategies.

Field-captured video facilitates detailed studies of spatio-temporal aspects of animal locomotion, decision-making and environmental interactions including predator-prey relationships and habitat utilisation. But even though data capture is cheap with mass-produced hardware, storage, processing and transmission overheads provide a hurdle to acquisition of high resolution video from field-situated edge computing devices. Efficient compression algorithms are therefore essential if monitoring is to be conducted on single-board computers in situations where such hurdles must be overcome. Animal motion tracking in the field has unique characteristics that necessitate the use of novel video compression techniques, which may be underexplored or unsuitable in other contexts. In this article, we therefore introduce a new motion analysis-based video compression algorithm specifically designed for camera traps. We implemented and tested this algorithm using a case study of insect-pollinator motion tracking on three popular edge computing platforms. The algorithm identifies and stores only image regions depicting motion relevant to pollination monitoring, reducing overall data size by an average of 87% across diverse test datasets. Our experiments demonstrate the algorithm’s capability to preserve critical information for insect behaviour analysis through both manual observation and automatic analysis of the compressed footage. The method presented in this paper enhances the applicability of low-powered computer vision edge devices to remote, in situ animal motion monitoring, and improves the efficiency of playback during behavioural analyses.
