Emotion Recognition in Conversations (ERC) is a widely applicable task, whether in emotional chatbots or recommender systems for dialog scenarios. The ability of systems to accurately identify human emotions is a crucial component in ERC success. In everyday conversations, a speaker’s emotional expression is closely tied to their individual characteristics and personality traits. Furthermore, individuals exhibit significant variations in their expressions of the same emotion. Traditional methods for ERC often overlook these personality differences and dynamic changes, leading to unreliable results. To address this issue, we propose a conversation emotion recognition model based on dynamic modeling of speaker’s personality (ERC DMSP). In our approach, to extract a speaker’s personality profile, we design a personality capture module to model the personalities of individuals based on their historical utterances. Moreover, a bidirectional influence exists between a speaker’s personality tendencies and their linguistic behavior. The speaker’s personality profile is thus continually updated based on the ongoing dialog. Additionally, since the personalities of other speakers in the conversation can also affect the form and intensity of a speaker’s emotional expression, we construct a conversation emotion representation utilizing group personality traits. We then comprehensively incorporate the speaker’s personality into the emotion representation of each utterance at both the group and individual levels through the personality engagement module. Throughout this process, the representation of dialog and the speaker’s personality undergo hierarchical updates, leading to more accurate conversation emotion recognition. We conducted extensive experiments on four commonly used public benchmark datasets for ERC to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed ERC DMSP model. Trustworthy Sensor Fusion against Inaudible Command Attacks in Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems

There are increasing concerns about malicious attacks on autonomous vehicles. In particular, inaudible voice command attacks pose a significant threat as voice commands become available in autonomous driving systems. How to empirically defend against these inaudible attacks remains an open question. Previous research investigates utilizing deep learning-based multimodal fusion for defense, without considering the model uncertainty in trustworthiness. As deep learning has been applied to increasingly sensitive tasks, uncertainty measurement is crucial in helping improve model robustness, especially in mission-critical scenarios. In this paper, we propose the Multimodal Fusion Framework (MFF) as an intelligent security system to defend against inaudible voice command attacks. MFF fuses heterogeneous audio-vision modalities using VGG family neural networks and achieves the detection accuracy of 92.25% in the comparative fusion method empirical study. Additionally, extensive experiments on audio-vision tasks reveal the model's uncertainty. Using Expected Calibration Errors, we measure calibration errors and Monte-Carlo Dropout to estimate the predictive distribution for the proposed models. Our findings show empirically to train robust multimodal models, improve standard accuracy and provide a further step toward interpretability. Finally, we discuss the pros and cons of our approach and its applicability for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Multi-view clustering (MvC) aims to integrate information from different views to enhance the capability of the model in capturing the underlying data structures. The widely used joint training paradigm in MvC is potentially not fully leverage the multi-view information, since the imbalanced and under-optimized view-specific features caused by the uniform learning objective for all views. For instance, particular views with more discriminative information could dominate the learning process in the joint training paradigm, leading to other views being under-optimized. To alleviate this issue, we first analyze the imbalanced phenomenon in the joint-training paradigm of multi-view clustering from the perspective of gradient descent for each view-specific feature extractor. Then, we propose a novel balanced multi-view clustering (BMvC) method, which introduces a view-specific contrastive regularization (VCR) to modulate the optimization of each view. Concretely, VCR preserves the sample similarities captured from the joint features and view-specific ones into the clustering distributions corresponding to view-specific features to enhance the learning process of view-specific feature extractors. Additionally, a theoretical analysis is provided to illustrate that VCR adaptively modulates the magnitudes of gradients for updating the parameters of view-specific feature extractors to achieve a balanced multi-view learning procedure. In such a manner, BMvC achieves a better trade-off between the exploitation of view-specific patterns and the exploration of view-invariance patterns to fully learn the multi-view information for the clustering task. Finally, a set of experiments are conducted to verify the superiority of the proposed method compared with state-of-the-art approaches on eight benchmark MvC datasets. Detecting Anomalous LAN Activities under Differential Privacy

Anomaly detection has emerged as a popular technique for detecting malicious activities in local area networks (LANs). Various aspects of LAN anomaly detection have been widely studied. Nonetheless, the privacy concern about individual users or their relationship in LAN has not been thoroughly explored in the prior work. In some realistic cases, the anomaly detection analysis needs to be carried out by an external party, located outside the LAN. Thus, it is important for the LAN admin to release LAN data to this party in a private way in order to protect privacy of LAN users;at the same time, the released data must also preserve the utility of being able to detect anomalies. This paper investigates the possibility of privately releasing ARP data that can later be used to identify anomalies in LAN. We present four approaches, namely naïve, histogram-based, naïveδ and histogram-based-δ, and show that they satisfy different levels of differential privacy – a rigorous and provable notion for quantifying privacy loss in a system. Our real-world experimental results confirm practical feasibility of our approaches. With a proper privacy budget, all of our approaches preserve more than 75% utility of detecting anomalies in the released data. © 2022, CC BY.

Lc-Stream: An Elastic Scheduling Strategy with Latency Constrained in Geo-Distributed Stream computing Environments

An effective scheduling strategy is critical for achieving better performance in real-time stream processing systems. How to process real-time data stream quickly and efficiently is always a challenging task, especially when clusters are collaborating in a Geo-Distributed computing environment. To address this challenge, we propose an elastic scheduling strategy with latency constrained in Geo-Distributed stream computing environments called Lc-Stream. This paper focuses on the following aspects: (1) An optimized data stream redirection method that is proposed based on queuing network algorithm, along with a computing resource model, a latency constrained scheduling model and a communication energy consumption model. (2) An updated node selection method based on the inter-layer task correlation, to reduce the communication latency between groups at the executor granularity. (3) A network cluster distribution for Geo-Distributed computing environment to ensure energy saving under low transmission latency. Our experimental results demonstrate that Lc-Stream reduces the overall latency of typical Geo-Distributed multitasking topology by more than 19%, and increases the throughput by more than 37%. Compared with the existing strategies in Storm, it also helps balance the load between systems and avoid excessive use of computing nodes. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Citations in scholarly work serve the essential purpose of acknowledging and crediting the original sources of knowledge that have been incorporated or referenced. Depending on their surrounding textual context, these citations are used for different motivations and purposes. Large Language Models (LLMs) could be helpful in capturing these fine-grained citation information via the corresponding textual context, thereby enabling a better understanding towards the literature. Furthermore, these citations also establish connections among scientific papers, providing high-quality inter-document relationships and human-constructed knowledge. Such information could be incorporated into LLMs pre-training and improve the text representation in LLMs. Therefore, in this paper, we offer a preliminary review of the mutually beneficial relationship between LLMs and citation analysis. Specifically, we review the application of LLMs for in-text citation analysis tasks, including citation classification, citation-based summarization, and citation recommendation. We then summarize the research pertinent to leveraging citation linkage knowledge to improve text representations of LLMs via citation prediction, network structure information, and inter-document relationship. We finally provide an overview of these contemporary methods and put forth potential promising avenues in combining LLMs and citation analysis for further investigation. In the women's community, Breast Cancer (BC) is a severe disease. The World Health Organization reported in 2020 that 2.26 million deaths occur due to BC. BC is curable if detected early. Since thermal imaging is non-invasive and supports disease detection, it is commonly used in clinics. Compared to other methods, it keeps BC early and accurate. The proposed work aims to evaluate the performance of the Pretrained Deep-Learning Methods (PDLM) in detecting BC using the thermal images collected from the benchmark dataset. It includes the following stages: primary image processing, deep feature mining, handcrafted feature mining, feature optimization using Firefly-Algorithm (FA), classification and validation. Visual Lab thermal images were used in the study. The investigational outcome of this study authenticates that the VGG16, along with the DT, provides better detection accuracy (95.5%) compared to other classifiers used in this study. To justify the significance of the implemented technique, the proposed work not only improved accuracy, but also improved precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-Scores. © 2023 The Authors. Accurate and efficient diagnosis of COVID-19 remains a significant challenge due to the limitations of current detection methods, such as blood tests and chest scans, which can be time-consuming and error-prone. This study aims to compare the performance of basic and hybrid data mining algorithms in diagnosing COVID-19, using blood test results and clinical information to identify the most effective approach. A dataset of 200 records from suspected and infected COVID-19 patients, with 23 characteristics and one diagnostic class, was analysed. Nine data mining algorithms were tested: four basic algorithms (Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbor) and five hybrid algorithms (Random Forest, AdaBoost, Majority Voting, XGBoost, Bagging). The study also integrated Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) to enhance model performance. The Bagging algorithm demonstrated superior performance with an accuracy of 88%, sensitivity of 74%, and F-criterion of 78%. The integration of RSM and ANFIS further showed that a smart model could be developed for efficient pandemic crisis management, achieving up to 100% accuracy when considering key factors like AST, Albumin, and CRP. The findings suggest that Bagging and hybrid data mining algorithms can significantly improve COVID-19 detection, reducing time and errors in identifying exposed individuals. The study highlights the potential of combining machine learning techniques with RSM-ANFIS models for effective pandemic management and decision-making in medical settings. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Lightweight Authenticated Task Offloading in 6G-Cloud Vehicular Twin Networks

Task offloading management in 6G vehicular networks is crucial for maintaining network efficiency, particularly as vehicles generate substantial data. Integrating secure communication through authentication introduces additional computational and communication overhead, significantly impacting offloading efficiency and latency. This paper presents a unified framework incorporating lightweight Identity-Based Cryptographic (IBC) authentication into task offloading within cloud-based 6G Vehicular Twin Networks (VTNs). Utilizing Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) in Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), our approach optimizes authenticated offloading decisions to minimize latency and enhance resource allocation. Performance evaluation under varying network sizes, task sizes, and data rates reveals that IBC authentication can reduce offloading efficiency by up to 50% due to the added overhead. Besides, increasing network size and task size can further reduce offloading efficiency by up to 91.7%. As a countermeasure, increasing the transmission data rate can improve the offloading performance by as much as 63%, even in the presence of authentication overhead. With the continuous development of IoT, a number of sensors establish on the roadside to monitor traffic conditions in real time. The continuously traffic data generated by these sensors makes traffic management feasible. However, loss of data may occur due to inevitable sensor failure, impeding traffic managers to understand traffic dynamics clearly. In this situation, it is becoming a necessity to predict missing traffic flow accurately for effective traffic management. Furthermore, the traffic sensor data are often distributed and stored by different agencies, which inhibits the multi-party sensor data sharing significantly due to privacy concerns. Therefore, it has become a major obstacle to balance the tradeoff between data sharing and vehicle privacy. In light of these challenges, we propose a privacy-aware and accurate missing traffic flow prediction approach based on time-aware Locality-Sensitive Hashing technique. At last, we deploy a set of experiments based on a real traffic dataset. Experimental reports demonstrate the feasibility of our proposal in terms of traffic flow prediction accuracy and efficiency while guaranteeing sensor data privacy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
