Background Using molecular dynamics simulation, this study investigates the effect of CuO nanoparticle addition on the thermodynamic and atomic properties of an octadecane that was being utilized as a phase change material within a circular tube. Methods The results indicate that the density (D) was greatest in the vicinity of the tube walls. At its peak, D was 0.0300 atoms per square centimeter. This behavior is due to the increased attractive force that is between the structure's boundaries and its particles. Particle velocity (V) values reached their utmost attainable values in the intermediate regions of the tube, where movement was greatest. At its peak, V was 0.0078 Å/fs. The tube exhibits a maximum temperature (Max T) value of 754.43 K at its midpoint. Significant Findings Due to the increased particle motion in the intermediate regions, the investigated structure experienced a greater number of collisions in those areas. After 10 ns, the sample's heat flux, thermal conductivity, and thermal stability converged to values of 3.94 W/m 2 , 1.38 W/mK, and 1821 K, respectively. The structure showed charging and discharging times of 6.41 and 7.15 ns, respectively.

A Review of Breast Cancer Histopathological Image Classification

Breast Cancer (BC) is the most common malignant tumor for women in the world. Histopathological examination serves as basis for breast cancer diagnosis. Due to the low accuracy of histopathological images through manual judgment, the classification of histopathological images of breast cancer has become a research hotspot in the field of medical image processing. Accurate classification of images can help doctors to properly diagnoses and improve the survival rate of patients. This paper reviews the existing works on histopathological image classification of breast cancer and analysis the advantages and disadvantages of related algorithms. Findings of the histopathological image classification of the Breast Cancer study are drawn, and the possible future directions are also discussed.

Adopting innovative technology and solutions is critical for ensuring clean water. Several methods may be used to remove salts from water. They may be divided into two categories: membranes and heat. Reverse electrodialysis, which uses a membrane, is an efficient way of separating substances. Prior research investigated system-level factors, but the nanoscale mechanisms that drive ion and water penetration across membranes were poorly understood. This study closed a research gap by investigating the influence of carbon nanotube membrane thickness on particle mobility and fluid dynamics in reverse electrodialysis systems. The research is contributed to the enhancement of energy conversion efficiency and membrane performance in reverse electrodialysis systems by offering a comprehensive understanding of the influence of channel thickness on particle transport and selectivity through the carbon nanotube membrane. Molecular dynamics simulations using the LAMMPS software package are conducted to examine the effect of carbon nanotube thickness variation (1-layer vs 2-layer) on fluid flow, ionic current, hydrogen bonding, and fluid density. To the findings, increasing the thickness of a carbon nanotube from one layer to two layers decreases the fluid flow rate to 203.79 atoms/ns and the current from 5.31 e/ns to 5.15 e/ns. Additionally, the number of broken hydrogen bonds decreases from 116 to 105, indicating decreased permeability and increased stability of the hydrogen-bonding network. In addition to offering useful information for the construction of more effective and selective membranes in renewable energy applications, these results provided a molecular understanding of how carbon nanotube thickness affected reverse electrodialysis effectiveness.

Proposals of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions based on increasingly complex and accurate predictive models are becoming ubiquitous across many disciplines. As the complexity of these models grows, transparency and users' understanding often diminish. This suggests that accurate prediction alone is insufficient for making an AI-based solution truly useful. In the development of healthcare systems, this introduces new issues related to accountability and safety. Understanding how and why an AI system makes a recommendation may require complex explanations of its inner workings and reasoning processes. Although research on explainable AI (XAI) has significantly increased in recent years and there is high demand for XAI in medicine, defining what constitutes a good explanation remains ad hoc, and providing adequate explanations continues to be challenging. To fully realize the potential of AI, it is critical to address two fundamental questions about explanations for safety-critical AI applications, such as health-AI: (1) What is an explanation in health-AI? and (2) What are the attributes of a good explanation in health-AI? In this study, we examined published literature and gathered expert opinions through a two-round Delphi study. The research outputs include (1) a definition of what constitutes an explanation in health-AI and (2) a comprehensive list of attributes that characterize a good explanation in health-AI. © 2024, CC BY.

Any urgent diagnosis of pneumonia can be affected by a chest x-ray (CXR henceforth), which is one of the most common types of radiography. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been employed by most researchers for the automatic detection of the complicated patterns in imaging data and to provide quantitative analysis of radiographic properties as well. In recent years, many advances have taken place, namely in the computer vision domain. As a consequence, these advances enable the researchers to provide in-depth analysis and investigation, especially with the existence of thousands of samples of CXR images. CXR samples and techniques provide a huge support for the radiologists in making crucial decisions while examining hundreds of images from different perspectives. Moreover, time consumption will be reduced because the most urgent cases will be correctly identified in a short period of time. The current study will analyze ten of the well-known deep learning (DL)techniques that tackled identifying CXR images in relation to their actual diagnosis. Each technique will be briefly addressed regarding data preparation, methodology, and model design. Furthermore, the accuracy measure generated by each model will be compared to the dataset used. It is hoped that the current study will be a reliable resource for DL to strategies in depicting CXR images in the medical domain.

Semi-supervised learning (SSL) has attracted considerable attention in medical image processing. The latest SSL methods use a combination of consistency regularization and pseudo-labeling to achieve remarkable success. However, most existing SSL studies focus on segmenting large organs, neglecting the challenging scenarios where there are numerous tumors or tumors of small volume. Furthermore, the extensive capabilities of data augmentation strategies, particularly in the context of both labeled and unlabeled data, have yet to be thoroughly investigated. To tackle these challenges, we introduce a straightforward yet effective approach, termed iterative pseudo-labeling based adaptive copy-paste supervision (IPA-CP), for tumor segmentation in CT scans. IPA-CP incorporates a two-way uncertainty based adaptive augmentation mechanism, aiming to inject tumor uncertainties present in the mean teacher architecture into adaptive augmentation. Additionally, IPA-CP employs an iterative pseudo-label transition strategy to generate more robust and informative pseudo labels for the unlabeled samples. Extensive experiments on both in-house and public datasets show that our framework outperforms state-of-the-art SSL methods in medical image segmentation. Ablation study results demonstrate the effectiveness of our technical contributions.

A unitary t-design is a powerful tool in quantum information science and fundamental physics. Despite its usefulness, only approximate implementations were known for general t. In this paper, we provide quantum circuits that generate exact unitary t-designs for any t on an arbitrary number of qubits. Our construction is inductive and is of practical use in small systems. We then introduce a tth-order generalization of randomized benchmarking (t-RB) as an application of exact 2t-designs. We particularly study the 2-RB in detail and show that it reveals self-adjointness of quantum noise, a metric related to the feasibility of quantum error correction (QEC). We numerically demonstrate that the 2-RB in one- and two-qubit systems is feasible, and experimentally characterize background noise of a superconducting qubit by the 2-RB. It is shown from the experiment that interactions with adjacent qubits induce the noise that may result in an obstacle toward a realization of QEC.

Diabetic Retinopathy remains one of the most feared diabetes complications that could lead to blindness. Image processing techniques have been widely used all around the world for early detection of diabetic retinopathy. However, most techniques used do not focus on the low visual quality problems in the fundus image. Low visual quality of fundus image may lead to difficulty in evaluation by ophthalmologist before reading it out to the patients. Hence, Automated Screening for Diabetic Retinopathy was created to focus on image enhancement of the fundus image. In this study, two main algorithms for image processing have been used which are green channel conversion and top-hat filters. Green channel in fundus image is selected due to better contrast of the features and background compared to the red and blue channel. While Top-hat filter used to details out small features in the fundus image. The evaluation result of the techniques is compared by using Mean-Squared Error (MSE), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Entropy calculations to measure quality of the enhanced fundus images. Results of image enhancement techniques implemented has proved that quality of the fundus image is improved.
